I think the K was a guess based on the log from the megaship, but the direction was from the local Galnet article (viewable at the starport in Chukchan) - 370LY towards Barnard's loop from Chukchan.
I didn't know even galnets are different on stations
Local Galnet article gives a direction and distance for the first part of the Adamastor's journey. Other logs give dates and system descriptions. The K-class is time-wise between setting off and arriving at the Coalsack. It was just a case of putting the two together and checking that. There's various assumptions which could have been wrong, but it made for a sensible thing to check first. If it hadn't worked then we would have gone on to look at other options.
It was added during the downtime.
I literally logged off on the correct planet, was gathering some screenshots of Cordycep Growths. When I logged back on, stuff in my screenshot in OP was there (I was about 3Mm away at the time though)

Yes indeed, usually just procedurally generated info for the system, but there have been hand-placed articles from time to time to do with mysteries, like this one. I'm glad FD have taken up using it again, to be honest.
I started to play when galnet was near dead and went off for round-galaxy. So this is 1st time I meet mysteries at all.
It's been ages since they last used them.
Perfectly understandable, it has been a very long time.
actually they started using them with the marlinist-storyline again.
Dated today (29th October 3306), it is the first one on the list. Right in the middle-bottom of the main starport services screen (just in case)

I more accurately meant "They've only just started reusing local galnet articles"
This whole scenario started at MUSCA DARK REGION PJ-P B6-1, where I am now. Been to the Geo Survey Site, 23B, uploaded beacon scans, more intel.
The SRV site has a green cloud and a Thargoid turns up after a couple of scans.
Crashed Thargoid ship yields no probes or sensors (have they been removed by the survey team?)
Barnacles all over the shop. The usual mats but nothing new.
My personal opinion: what are the Goids doing only 300lY NORTH of the bubble? This ain't Pleides or Maia country, whole new realm for them.
