Newcomer / Intro Galaxy Map Question ....

ED - Galaxy Map, TYET.jpg

Thanks.

Your basic premise is wrong - that icon your #1 points to denotes that the system is in the newcomer's zone, it is not indicating that you have visited that system.

If you have been to the system, you can access the system map - you have not so you cannot.

You can view system maps of systems in the noob-zone as long as you have visited them, it makes no difference if you are outside the zone and have lost the permit, you can still view the system map - you just cannot "select" or "plot route" to them on the galaxy map.

Ok ....

....... so what is the "newcomer's zone"?

......... and what is this "permit"?

If my premise is wrong about the icon in #1, how do you tell where you have visited?
Thanks.

I think it's time I started to view some of those well made, good, bad, or even obsolete tutorial video on U-Tube. I have too many noob questions to keep asking them here. 😉

The Newcomers Zone so called is the region where all players now start the game access to it is blocked for more experienced players by a permit system, the permit is revoked once a player has earned one rank (become Mostly Harmless) and docked anywhere outside the zone to encourage going outside the zone that first time when you achieve the rank increase you are offered a valuable mission to a station outside.

As @Zieman states you can filter the galaxy map to show visited or unvisited stars or both but remember you can only filter the map by one category so if you do this you can’t also filter out non scoopable stars.

Well this is the place to ask.

You might like to bookmark the Elite Dangerous Wiki as that is a decent source of info, you can search for all sorts of things and get good info. Here is the entry for the noob-zone for example:

I concur. Ask away!

Unless FD changed something, a player's history of Visited systems in the game is not infinite. At some point, the game will not remember you've been to places. The game has Alzheimer's.

The visited stars filter in Galaxy Map, map mode.
Bright green stuff in this pic is some explanatory highlighting and text added by me, to show what to click and what to look for:

Really good, thank you. For me this is probably one of the most valuable indicators on the Galaxy Map: I need to track where, and where I have not visited. (y) Exploration, at all its levels, is my prime reason for being here.
Does the Systems Map have the same indicators of where I have visited within the system ? Planets, Stations, etc ?

Thanks. As I have said in an earlier post, I'm viewing pertaining tutorials regarding this and other issues, but reinforcement responses and follow up here is much appreciated. (y)

There's also a tab that shows what all the icons on the galmap are for (except the last time I looked, the "market comparison" icon still wasn't listed there).
Regards
Yes, I've seen those. It's been where the expected icon is missing (eg. System Map) that really generated my thread here. 😉

But, IMHO, I should look elsewhere first. It will be seen as (correctly) laziness if I don't ?
Edit: in Italics
And I will stumble across other things in searching ........ it an old teacher's "trick": so much better they find things themselves than me just telling them. Also, teaches them to practice their searching skills..... 😉
I must practice what I preached ..... 😛

Hope this is not the case. Makes exploration pointless if one's findings are not retained ...... :(

Emphatically nope, at least not as far as I'm concerned. If I wanted to, I could actually argue that using the Wiki is the "lazy" option, as your answers there are instant. Here, you have to wait for somebody to see your question and hope that they have the answer :)

Bottom line: Ask away. I don't hang around here because I dislike answering questions, after all. Not to mention that I myself got a lot of help back in the day (and occasionally still do). :)

Thanks for that. (y) I'll do both. The real trick is to make sure you asking the right question or the ask the question clearly. Which in truth, I didn't (initially) here at this thread. My question was meant to be about the missing this: ED - System Icon.png. However, it got answered indirectly along with providing lots of other good information: noob-zone, permits, etc.
