If you had watched the Dev diaries, you would have the answer, which is an emphatic no.

They also said you could interact with Thargoids in more ways then just combat, look how that turned out.
I'm holding out on being enthusiastic until I see some actual gameplay of other activities besides combat.

This latest trailer definitely didn't convince me to pre-order Odyssey.
 
Yes I use a control pad for my srv so don't see a problem on foot there will be separate bindings based on activity imho 😉 o7

Problem is I use one of THESE, and the game doesn't seem to agree with using that and either Keyboard/Mouse or Gamepad SIMULTANIOUSLY. (I'd use Key and Mouse for First person shooter mode, honestly)

It hasn't convinced me to preorder either. Just because we haven't seen the actual gameplay of the scanning, doesn't mean it's not in there. I am positive it will be in along with the rest of the stuff they have shown and told us.

But I am not just talking about scanning vegetation, there will also be many different missions that may not need the use of guns, if you actually listen to the Dev diaries, that's is pretty obvious.
 
FDEV, don't forget the sound feedback in FPS mode.
Bullets hitting enemy, ricochets, footsteps, etc.
Weapons need to feel and sound "heavy", not just pew-pew like a water pistol. :D

If there is one thing not to worry about since day 1 of Elite Dangerous: the tremendous amount of skill of Frontiers sound dpt. Always top quality and good decisions. Their record is immaculate.

I thought about this when I preordered Odyssey yesterday. ED is to this day the best sounding space sim on the market supporting my immersion into this universe a lot better than the competition.

i use one as well, and I use mouse and keyboard while using the hotas. I mean the mouse is already used in menus etc, no?

Plugging in controllers to an existing profile is more tricky, sure.

No hat/direction switches are used for menus.
 
Did you implement a way to switch between monitor and VR when going fps? So that you can continue playing on the monitor and then back to VR when on the ship? I ask this because at the moment you need to restart the game to switch back to the monitor.

What I would like to know before I pre-order the deluxe edition is whether the progression I would make before odyssey is released will remain in the base game after the alpha and beta are over ?
Or would I lose all the progress made during beta alpha?

It’s been announced that we can either continue to play in the headset on a virtual screen or remove the headset to play on the monitor, for the on-foot parts 👍
When leaving the cockpit of your ship or SRV, VR players will see a projected screen on which they can continue their journey without removing their helmets. They may also remove their helmet if they choose.
