Galnet News: Engineer Boost

I have many commanders, so half of my commanders are going to be very peeved that the other new commanders are getting such an easy deal! :D

But seriously, this is a great move for Frontier to temporarily reduce the grind for new commanders! Temporary is the right way to go versus continually making the game easier.

So to add my observations to the anecdotes here - I went through today and topped up the engineering on a bunch of components in my fleet (via remote engineering, since they're mostly all in one shipyard at the moment). As I was trying to conserve G5 mats to get through a lot of modules (esp boosters and multicannons!) I limited each module to 2-3 G5 rolls. Normally that gets me anywhere from 40-75% of the way around the dial, but today 3 rolls was reliably getting the module above 75% of G5 complete. Many got there with only two rolls even.

So overall it feels like a mild buff? Taking my goal as getting each dial on each module above 75% completion at G5, I'd guess I probably made a third fewer rolls than would normally be needed. Nothing earth-shattering there, but as a little holiday bonus I'll take it.

2nd trigger - 4x fixed g5 focused medium burst lasers (for shields and some hull poking) and 2x g5 long range small rails for long range pp busting (single clicks for lasers, long click to add rails)
I saw this and just had to say, I got vastly better with landing rails once I added a fixed laser to the fire group. Like putting a laser sight on a gun. I don't remember who made that suggestion to me, but it's a great one.

my only g5 attempt did not confirmed that...
8 rolls to get a dss to g5 seems pretty normal (the dss was at g4 previously)
To be honest, I have no idea.

I was only engineering my alt and only g1.
I heard it should work this way and it felt less, but that could've been confirmation bias.

Same old story, perks for new customers (they're the ones bringing in the new money) and for the older players, not so much as we don't move the bottom line.

My experience is that from 1-4 there is a reduction but completing G5 there is absolutely no difference. It's still taking up to 10 rolls to complete G5
That's an interesting way to do it.

I wonder if they're testing whether people bother to grind out G5 at all if G4 is nearly free in terms of materials and gets you 90% of the way there most of the time?

My 2 credits worth.

How I wish it worked at the Engineers and on Remote.

Select the harpoint/module.
Select the mod you want. (greyed out if you dont have items)
Select the Grade you want. (greyed out if you dont have items)
Select the Experimental. (greyed out if you dont have items)
Select pay.
Price pops up showing what will be taken.
Select accept or cancel (cant accept if dont have items needed)
All done.

The grind was unlocking them. No need to make every new ship upgrade a grind too.
