If you're Undecided about Odyssey, what do you want to see?

Some people didn't pre-order Odyssey yet. What do you want to see that would convince you to buy it?

Such as:
  1. PVE exploration gameplay on foot
  2. New ship or SRV
  3. Do Social hubs feel alive
  4. Do NPCs have dynamic routines (walk around, errands, sleep)
  5. Faction costumes to dress your avatar
  6. A club, disco in stations (e.g. the Afterlife club in Mass Effect 2)
  7. Story-driven missions (dlc)
  8. Ship interiors (not included)
  9. Emotes for avatars (dancing, cheering etc)
  10. Pets, animal companions
  11. Player housing (apartments in stations, a place to call home)
I want to see a playable Beta.

I'll be getting it anyway, though I do hope the new era will see a pass on NPC behaviour and dialogue. NPC persistence is still too much to ask, most likely, but that placeholder stuff such as the top 1% of liners who are still working out their wedding vows and are surprised you made it this far with your 1 ton of biowaste really need new lines. I wish they'd just source this out to the community as part of a competition even, like they did with adverts.

I don't participate in the degeneration of video games by pre-ordering.

That being said, the fact that FD won't show any EDO gameplay is worrying. It is a major red flag if someone wants me to buy something without letting me look at what I'll get. I will wait for it to get released so I can see what EDO actually offers. I doubt FD is going to tell us.

I don't get this at all, it's not worrying, it's their marketing plan.

You're looking for a 5 min playthrough type of video, presumably?

You'll only see that once they've actually gone through their planned marketing - these dev diaries were planned back 6 months ago they aren't being thrown out off the cuff - and once they've revealed the other things we don't yet know about. THEN you'll see people playing and streaming the game, for hours if you want, in the alpha and beta. And we'll get trailers by release that have more of the things we don't know about yet.

Worrying.

I wanted ship interiors as both, a player home, and to have mission based boarding mechanics. Rescue the hostages, apprehend the criminal sort of things.

Looking forward to Odyssey, but hoping for some ’wow’ factor or unexpected features. So far, I’m impressed with new planets and social hubs, but there could be so much more.

I wish we can walk in orbital ring stations, hope planets have water or even basic weather effects, maybe non landable planets will see visual updates. Maybe large planetary cities will see lots of npc activity or be larger in general with odyssey?

I will already get it thanks to the LifeTime Expansion but I think it'd help knowing for example if we will be able to finally land on the Earth's Moon?
Also how will sounds propagation be handled on planets with less-than.earth atmosphere? Will it be realistic (faraway sounds will travel and reach the player after some time) or simulated like in space (immediate)?

I prepurchased because I have faith in these developers. That said I'd like to see a better crime and punishment system for outright gankers (I'm liking the concept of SC's prison). I have no problem with piracy as it stands. Ship interiors we can walk around. A salvaging portion to the game with specialized ships/modules for wrecks and the ability to explore destroyed/abandoned ships on foot. I can wait for atmospheric planet/flora/fauna, alot involved in that.

In my case, what i would love to see the most is a break from grind-based gameplay.
In Elite, most of things are made with: "very time consuming and repetetive = difficult", with very few expections, like thargoids.
I would like more really difficult, engaging content to do in the game.

What would I most like to see....

... an extra save slot.

This would be most welcome, and nearly worth the purchase (provided there were multiple slots) even if there were nothing else.

It's not the cost of another copy so much that's kept me from starting another commander - it's the thought of having to unlock all that stuff again (rank, engineers) coupled with "losing" any extras (liveries, COVAS, etc.) I've purchased for my main account.

Like many I picked up another account while it was free on the Epic store, however I've done nothing with it. I may never actually do anything with it - largely for the above reasons.

I'd be far more inclined to start another commander if I could at least keep all of the cosmetics and didn't have to faff about with multiple launchers, etc. Extra bonus points if engineer unlocks carried over as well - though I'm aware that's quite an ask - and it's not something I'd actually expect.

Ultimately I recognize it's not at all in FDev's interest to offer multiple slots per account, but it'd be nice if they did.

What's the point in preordering though? The only thing it can be is the bonuses. Which don't look very good.

It really means the most absolute of nothing whether you pay today or a minute after. Frontier can't even rob you the steam refund policy starts from the launch date for preorders.

I've grown wary of Frontier overpromising and underdelivering, also there's no point in pre-ordering at all - there's no significant discount, there's slim pre-order bonus, why should I? It's not an RTX, it won't go out of stock ;-)

Also, there's no VR, there's no Ship Interiors (seriously, how could you...), there's no base building so I still can't have my own home among the stars like I can in No Man's Sky, and we have yet to see the gameplay loops associated with it. Best give it time to iron out the obvious release bugs, then wait for a real discount and let others betatest the release. Remember "CDPR can't do no wrong?" - they had the game in the making for 8 years... And it seems it needs half a year more. If you think odyssey will be different, think again.

1. I thought that's already been confirmed, was it not???
2. for sure!!!! but not only new ships and SRV, I also want the old ships to get a facelift and bring them up to par with same graphic fidelity of the planets.
3. Elite is not an MMO so don't really care as much. Nothing can feel alive with a PnP game with a 32 client limit per instance. It is what it is!
4. don't care
5. don't care
6. don't care about stupid clubs. there are much more important things to spend development time on then building clubs
7. VERY IMPORTANT. the missions better be dynamic and story driven and engaging. I am tired of all these cookie cutter missions
8. well, that's is probably the reason why I haven't pre order the game. I need to see what this "Neil Armstrong moment" is gonna be like. If it's going to be NMS style pop-out crap, then I may pass
9. ah, don't really care.
10. really don't care. This is not World of Warcraft!
11. that would be nice, but we already know it's not coming

few more I'd like to see before I make a decision:
12. Physicalized inventory
13. Ability to interact with physicals objects in the world. If I am on foot, I should be able to walk to a canister of an engineering mat or a mineral and pick it up.

as of right now, EDO is nothing more than a FPS game taking place in space. I came to Elite Dangerous because I love space sims and combat. There are literally 100s of FPS titles out there. I really don't see the reason to pay $40 for another FPS game I'll grow tired of after few months.
Now, if EDO introduced other game loops beside FPS combat (which I don't mind) then I'll be more interested.

4K/60fps support for PS4 Pro/PS5 and an understanding of how the walking stuff will blend into the rest of the game as, thus far, it seems like a fundamentally different game.

To the topic though, if frontier wanted me to preorder without offering to spend more development on bonuses...

Making the deluxe edition the price of the standard edition up until launch, sure instabuy.

Of course the reality is what happened so were are where are. I've already had my fanboy itch to preorder a frontier game denied for 2 titles now, both jwe and planet zoo i was bursting to preorder but the offers weren't acceptable, so i passed (and decided not to "support" charity). Didn't expect anything for odysee coming from that.

That would only be worrying if they hadnt done things like that before. To me that only hints at its going to be delayed or have cut content. I hope they delay it.. its been a long time to wait for just a mid range elite patch, would rather have the whole thing later.

EDIT: If you look at promotional stuff from the marketing guys perspective, they usually only show stuff when its certain, both in content and date, they absolutely hate saying "you're not getting something anymore", so its one of those things going on. End of december is well in range for frontier to kick in the marketing hype from how previous patches worked... if everything was on track.
