what do PvP players get out of attacking other....

Is the reason why so many gankers and griefers are in Deciat is because of Felicity Farseer? She is arguably the most useful engineer and they suspect other commanders who travel here are flying un-engineered ships, easy picking?

DING DING DING ! We have a winner.

Most CMDRs who are good at PvP don't hang out there, it's not a challenge picking off un-engineered ships or n00bs. Felicity is usually the first ENG to visit since a modded FSD will make the others a lot easier. Even if you're not into combat, a G5 FSD will make trading and exploration better.

Elvira is more useful if you have any desire to go for higher level engineering, and deciat is regularly populated with high level pvp combat payers. Some will leave the harmless players alone, some won’t. The fact that they can occupy a medium sec system and kill player after player with so little consequence is a testament to the inadequacy of the C&P system.

What do chess players get out of playing each other?

It's not a perfect analogy, given elite pvp is dire (imo) and definitely not the only reason to play the game, unlike chess, but people play games versus other people because it's what they like to do.

They can't help elite pvp being a bit naff.

Personally I think the cmdr should have at least declared his/her role play intentions if that was the reason via in game comms, but that’s just me.
Ive noticed a problem with in game coms.
Myself for example I put :- Wing in the tabbed option. So that I can put my self in that tab so I dont have to read the stupid messages from NPCs and Bob has come online over and over again.
Though this means I miss messages from players and local. Which is obviously where an RP player would contact me.
Been asking for a fix on the notifications and NPC chatter, since the Coms was re vamped a few years ago. In the end I decided to ignore players so I could have a clean screen.

was already answered, "you don't get into the same instance". Your reply was not helpful though ;)

Brokk's comment was accurate, but incomplete. As of this post, the implications I was referring to have not been described in this thread.

If you didn't find my reply helpful it's because you've made an assumption that you know something you do not. Since you don't seem to care about the implications of the tools you're using, there is little reason for me to elaborate on them further.

I agree, why fdev are so proud of the comms tab system I don’t know, but I would really like e revamp of direct messaging, including a translator. Another option could be a predefined menu system for negotiating both with NPCs and players, so you always see it in your local language. This would be especially useful for console players.

Answer is you don't have much or any negative implications, friends of said blocked ganker may have. (But, well they are friends of ganker, so who cares...)

This is misleading to the point of being outright deception. Since I know you know better, I'm just going to stick you on ignore.

Well I do not do forum blocking, but as far as I know from those massive hotel California threads it comes to down that other people may have some problems instancing with blocked player if they have instanced with you first. So one's block shields them from blocked one, regardless if they want it or not.

Didnt really wanted to answer, bc, maybe we agree this will go nowhere, but could you speak plain?

"the tools i'm using" in this case is instancing and a blocked player.

there was no need to descibe instancing in general, i have a concept how this works and it's enough. personally i think you're the one making assumptions what i can comprehend and what not.

you can block me if you like.

Gankers do not like block feature, it IS effective, that's the reason why they cry out about it.

Block has 'side-effects' on instancing beyond the blocked player - is all.

Depending on how 'seriously' one plays this game such a situation could be interpreted as intolerable...

Naturally, those who wish to interact with everybody dislike the fact that anyone can be excluded from another's game in open, leading to suggestions that maybe PG or solo would be a better choice for said 'blocking' players.

Me, I don't use block, but then - I am not a 'serious' player either and have no need of other players for the majority of my recreation in game so choose mode accordingly.

Don't block him. If he failed to destroy your ship he's not a real threat, and you can tag him as an sworn enemy. That's way more fun.

That would be pretty neat if there was game mechanics supporting this.

It would be neat to have a way to hunt notorious gankers in game withput having to rely on friending them.

I wish there was a kind of emissary system like in sea of thieves.

I miss many messages from players because I simply cannot stand to have my screen cluttered with NPCs rubbish and Notifications from stations and players coming online.
Disabling notifications does nothing and they simply removed the "disable npc chatter" when they revamped the chat for some unknown reason.
The only way I can get a clean screen is to Tab the wing or players option and place my self in that tab. meaning Local is ignored by me and well any sane person would have disabled system chat on day one :(

I hope they look at it sometime.

Hmm, interesting point. So if I want to get in to PvP against people who aren't going to waste me in five seconds take a trip to Deciat and get attacked. There's a plan...

what was this guy trying to achieve?
A non-predictable experience. NPC AI emulates a ship rather than a human pilot, and as such it becomes very predictable and boring after awhile. Human pilots, on the other hand, can still surprise and entertain us.

What I find unfortunate is that griefers have to actually cause grief to get their jollies. On rare occasion I'll attack another player without provocation, but I'll do so in an inferior ship, and if I'm winning, I'll break off the attack and let my prey escape, kinda like a cat playing with a toy. After I harass (again, very rare) a specific player once, I'll usually leave them alone. These days when I'm in the mood for such interactions, I tend to roleplay as a true pirate, where my goal is to get some cargo, not destroy random targets for no reason. Some of my best experiences have been PvP piracy, but unfortunately the opportunities for such are hard to come by in ED.

people gank at engineer base for revenge about solo player. if everybody play open no one can gank at station because he be blown away in a minutes, but people are scared to play this game and this is the result. i am sorry, we are a very few in open to patrol the bubble and some of this guy can do that, fdev also make a block list to permit the criminal to not be instanced with guards so ganking is also incentivated from developers, but probably they still dont know who they are and what are they doing.
