Damaged Stations - Rescue Missions - Is there a point? Am I missing something?

Just spit balling here...each CG tier could be a station saved/evacuated. Save 5 stations, hit tier 5. Save 50% of people from each station then tier 2.5 reached.

Say FD keeps on bringing on goid attacks after goid attacks, while turning them increasingly more difficult, at one point there could be more systems than AX-players could defend and amount of CG´s would just increase every week, until board is 100+ CG´s long. Then what? :)

I´d rather take good alien invasion any day, rather than new kind of CG, tbh lol

Not sure I'm following... You could apply that same logic to any CG though...and I agree, having 100+ CGs would be less than optimal.
Also, you don't need to be an AX combat pilot to do rescue missions.
 
I love the fact that the ardent fedneck who raised this query, who decries imperial citizens as "slavers", ergo holds us all collectively culpable for crimes against humanity, is going to leave people to burin in a tin can in the void because he doesn't want to rank up with the "reprehensible" empire. Were he really the uber-libertarian his defamatory comments about the empire suggest he thinks he is, he'd see past our creed and rescue the burning civilians. Let me tell you something, despite the emblems on my avatars shield, I have top fed rank, mostly from rescuing your citizens from goid'fires and contributing to the station rebuilds.

Note the admiral, thats mostly through rescue operations. Why? Because I am an imperial, and we are honourable, and it is dishonourable to leave people to burn in a damaged station, no matter how abhorent we find their federal allegiance.

Edit: In your screenshot it says "Fleet Carrier Update: Skipped"...what's this mean?
 
I'm hoping (with absolutely no evidence) that we get a new "Search and Rescue" rank to grind for when Odyssey hits.
And I'd also like the jerks I rescue to be a little more thankful for it too.
(I know what the chances of either of those happening are, though...)

Even without the rank, I'd like to have search & rescue missions at some point. Stuff like:

  • Ship X lost contact in area Y, suspected crash on planet Z, search for survivors / important items and bring them back.
  • Ship X sent emergency broadcast from system Y, under attack by Z, please assist.
  • Ship X sent emergency broadcast from system Y, ran out of fuel, please locate and refuel before life support runs out.
  • Ship X sent emergency broadcast from system Y, engine malfuction, please locate and repair before life support runs out.
  • Ship X sent emergency broadcast from system Y, ship destroyed, please locate and retrieve escape pods.
  • Ship X sent emergency broadcast from system Y, accident on board, please locate and retrieve wounded passengers / crew and deliver to medical facilities.
  • Ship X lost contact in system Y, please locate and investigate / provide assistance with ongoing issues (might need ship legs and EVA to be truly great)

After the latest Thargoid attacks I decided to build a dedicated rescue ship to try out damaged station rescue missions.

Fly into station.
Hang around for a few mins while limpets do their business.
Dock.
Load up on refugees.
Get out of dodge quick.
Dock with rescue ship.
Rinse and repeat.

While the scooped engineering mats are useful the pay out for rescue missions and scooped salvage items is utterly diabolical.
After a few hours I earned 1m...a whole 1m :(

Am I missing something here?

Just for reference if anyone is interested, this is my engineered rescue Python (I only play in open so this ship build may be a little overkill for people who play in solo):
There are several reasons I do station rescue work, firstly it lets me roll play being a humanitarian selflessly setting aside the hunt for earning more credits than I could ever need and play at being in the 34th century version of the RNLI.
Secondly picking up the refugees restores my faith in human nature as they instantly try to bribe me to leave there friends and neighbours to die and get them out of there immediately if not sooner.
Thirdly and the reason everybody should do these is that as soon as the rescue is complete the station starts getting repaired which means we can all get down to the main point of having a starship in Elite hauling mega tonnes of Beryllium.

As with all activities in ED try it and if you are having fun keep doing it till your not then try something else.
 
I know. Since you can't make 200MCr/hr (that you can't spend on anything since you already have everything), there's really no point, is there? I mean, other than playing a game, of course, but who really wants to waste their time on doing that?
I think you missed my point. I was trying to find out if there's a purpose...everything has a purpose, otherwise people don't do it. Just because you can stand on one leg all day doesn't mean there's a point to it...which is probably why people don't stand on one leg all day even though they easily could.
If by rescuing people it changed the BGS, or had another effect in ED, then there's a point to it.
From what I've read the only point to this, from a gaming perspective, in role playing...and I'm absolutely fine with this.

I was under the impression that after a week, regardless of how many people had been rescued, the station would start repairing...it makes no diff if I rescue 1 person on day 1...or rescue 10000 by playing 24hrs a day.

You might well be right, it isn’t something I have paid attention to.

Personally I don’t analyse the game beyond the level of do I like doing that activity or not, so from my perspective the purpose of Station Rescues is for those that like them to have fun.
 
Yep I asked this in another topic... and was told...
If the stations are part of a scripted event then they stop burning by themselves to continue the scripted story...

If there not fixed event then they will stop burning and go into repair mode only when enough has been done, to counter the thargoids...
Each thursday if the event is not scripted the stations only stop burning if enough has been done if the level has not been reached they burn on each week untill the target level is complete...

Only one station is currently due to stop burning...

The reason most people do these missions is to get the Federation rank for their Corvette. I'm not sure if there are any Empire burning stations, but if there are, that would sort out the Cutter.

The missions are a bit of fun while you figure out how to do them efficiently, but after that, there are better ways to make money.

You must be doing something wrong. I get about 3 mil per trip and complete 6 trips in an hour, so you should have got 18 mil.

Two things I can think of. There's a time bonus that starts from when you pick up some of the passengers. You have to get back to the station quickly and efficiently to get the bonus. Thaty means, loading the missions as fast as possible and unloading them as fast as possible when you get to the rescue ship. If anything delays you along the way, like you over-boost to the landing pad or don't boost enough, you won't get the bonus.

Secondly, you need to be allied with all the factions to get the best payouts, but when you're doing 96 to 120 missions an hour, that should be sorted in less than an hour.

For anybody else, the ideal ship is an Anaconda fitted out for low heat. Engineering makes a bit of difference, but you can do it in an unengineered one like this. It's matched almost exactly to the mission spawn rate, so you can run your session as long as you want:


Don't try it with a Cutter. A Python would work too with just economy passenger cabins and forget about the salvage missions.

"Fleet Carrier Update: Skipped" is because I haven't bought a carrier, so there is no data to update. Have a ready of this, Imperial Slavery is far more nuanced than you might think given the terminology it's name uses. https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Imperial_Slavery
