Yup. You guessed it. We Want Cross play.

I'd love it too. Also, for all of the people who will say PC players have an advantage over consoles, remember this is Elite Dangerous. Fair and balance are more like "guidelines" and not actual rules for gameplay.
Perhaps but the possibility of people using cheats and having better hardware that can definitely make a difference. Im to the opinion that as a xbox player i rather just have crossplay with ps4 and not pc.

Here's the link to my question in the 1st AMA .

Q. What plans if any do you have to support cross platform play / saves ?
"We have nothing to announce about cross platform or play/saves at this time. Thanks for the question! "

Yes please. My biggest complaint with this game is how empty and devoid of players it is. I play on the PS4 and it's pretty lonely out there, and I'm based in Deciat. Such an amazing galaxy they've built that would be so much better with more players. So I add my squeek to the wheel. Grease me up baby!

Does it make a difference on PC now?

Its not like the PC master race is a hivemind where everyones computer is automatically upgraded to the latest hardware whenever somwthing new comes out.

Same with the controller arguement

Can't wait for the console spawncampers and their controller aimbots to ruin the day.

Yes true not everyone will but its still a possibility that i rather not want to deal with.

I'd just love some sort of actual response on this rather than the hand waving we got in the AMA. Just tell me straight out if we'll have news soon or that we can all go to hell. The not knowing is the worst part. If it was never going to be done, I'd just make peace that I won't be playing with all my friends.

Crossplay is not a matter of if, but when. I'm just going to repeat myself here.

  • Sony and MS do allow crossplay and some games already do crossplay, so that's up to the devs.
  • Keyboard and mouse are supported on consoles and some games already do KBAM on consoles, so that's up to the devs.
  • PS4 vs PS4 Pro vs PS5, Dualshock vs Dualshock + Strikepack vs TM HOTAS vs Astro C40. Far from a level playing field.
  • All the different PC HW configurations running Elite are hardly a level playing field either.

It's not like the worst PC configs are miles ahead of console performance. As uncomfortable as it might make the master race, the specs and especially the user experiences overlap, and that applies already to the PS4/Xbone generation, PS5/XSX makes it even more so. Run a low spec PC + VR combo and I guarantee a console provides a smoother experience. I know this from first hand experience because that's exactly what I did.

Anyway. Crossplay is becoming the new norm in the video game industry and it'll eventually be the standard expectation of players, so my bet is it's only a matter of time before FDev too must fold. And they would be outright stupid to have implemented over the wire packets in any kind of platform dependent form. All CMDRs are already working on top of a single shared background simulation so essentially we're talking about the real-time matchmaking algorithm here.

Yesterday in Shinrarta, four human players in instance,lag/stutters,FPS dropping, imagine on foot combat in Odyssey with even more players (some on the ground some in the air) 13 fps, then add to that crossplay...good luck!
