COMPLETED CG Deliver Xenological Samples for the Holloway Bioscience Institute in Colonia

Now this is the sort of CG that should be offering a half decent, unique reward to stimulate participation.

Imo decals and some new test sites ain't gonna cut it here FDev, this is a pretty commitment heavy CG and requires a fair amount more effort than your average one.

Probably one of the most gruelling ones I've seen since I joined at PS4 launch and sadly I forsee it been passed over by most.
Simply being in Colonia cuts the numbers quite substantially - older Colonia CGs tended to get ~300 participants between locals and people willing to travel up for them. (5-10% of standard CG participation at the time)

Actually, this one reminds me a lot of the old Colonia Expansion Initiative CGs - you need to transport goods only available a long way from Colonia and only obtainable a little bit per-player at a time. So the best strategy is possibly similar to then, but carrier assisted:
1) Park a carrier with restock capability near the closest Pod field.
2) One team loads the carrier with Pod bits.
3) A second team in fast Anacondas hauls the Pod bits from the carrier to an uninhabited system near Colonia.
4) A third team collects the Pod bits from them using collector limpets and moves them to the CG station, while the second team self-destructs to return to the carrier for another load.

Of course, those CGs lasted an entire month and even with absolutely huge incentives the biggest one only got 260kT transported...

Looks like Flossy2 (based in Colonia) will be trying this one - if I can work out what the heck I'm supposed to be doing!

Looking into the logistics (briefly as I'm work-bound) of using my FC for this.

Round trip from bubble>trifid nebula>colonia>bubble is going to cost in the region of 200m for fuel and wear and tear.

As I'm on PS4 that means at least 84 jumps at ~20 mins per jump for around 28 hours.

Not done sampling before but at sell prices at CG station I'd need around 200t of best selling samples just to break even, never mind the large time requirement.

Maybe setting up my FC with a buy order in the Trifid area and shuttling a few hundred tonnes at a time with the JumpConda?

Ninja'd by Cmdr Doncaster even as I type this 😂

The problem with this one is that the reward is personal (the decal), so there's less reason for people to do (2) or (3), as (4) get the reward. Unless it ran longer (so people can swap teams), or the global reward is actually worth while (unclear as of now).

I mean, from a Colonia perspective pretty much any global reward is probably worthwhile! I'm not doubting that side of things.

The decal is top 75%, so if you jump the carrier overnight at the end it shouldn't be hard to get everyone on that even if it's a 100-way 1t tie for last place. But it does have to reach Tier 1 in the first place for that... which I think might be the tricky bit.

The timing on this one couldn't be better for me - I literally finished my speed Viper just yesterday and was contemplating another trip to the center to pick up a 1D shield. And now I get to do it with a CG thrown in for good measure :D
One tip for those going out there the old fashioned way (w/o FC): Stock up on Iron and Nickel and synth limpets when needed. At full bins that's 120t less to carry for the first part of the journey. On my loadout that's about a 10ly increase in range, with the distances involved that adds up to a considerable reduction in jumps needed.

at least people on the same platform and one of them having a FC could go like this about it:

  • get friends of the FC owner
  • set up FC with tritium and buyorders.
  • sample away.
  • jump Fc to colonia and setup sell orders restricted to friends
It's plausible - though the tricky thing is you'd need a group of people in the bubble who were willing to put in that work for Colonia. For people in Colonia the plan has to start with loading ~12kT of Tritium onto a carrier for the round trip.

Cheers @GraphiteGB - do you have the price for the Pod Dead Tissue as well?

And yes, the mapping is correct in case you see the surface -> dead, core -> surface, ...
BTW, Pod Core Tissue is not part of the commodity list I get from the API. (fixed 2021-01-08)

And here we are 15k light years from colonia to pick up pod samples ...

And we are back at colonia guys. Lets hand in our samples.
Nice description of jumping on someone else's FC.

The last really long range CG i participated was the one to build Explorer's Anchorage (both mining and bounty cg).
That one made sense and i gladly did more than 50000 ly to do my part

This one looks like a bad experiment and probably i'm going to skip it. 😒

At least they did not asked for... erm... let's say... undiscovered gas giants with waterbased life and radius smaller than 25000 km.

I am a relatively new player with no access to a FC right now so have to say I'm very disappointed. especially as CG's give me the motivation to play ED more and there haven't been any the past 2 weeks.

But it does have to reach Tier 1 in the first place for that... which I think might be the tricky bit.
Actually, looking at the Tier distribution, it's probably only ~1,000t for Tier 1, so it'll probably make that.
Then Tier 2 at ~10,000t is also plausible.
(Then I think 50kT and 100kT which are probably not doable in just a week, and 500kT which certainly isn't)

You dont really need a FC

This Conda can do wonders... you just need to be willing to go the nearest pod farm... fill up... then drive to Colonia to unload.
Then go back to bubble to catch the next CG...

PS> dont forget to sign up before delivery

edit: you can trade up some jump range for more cargo by swapping around the 7a fuel scoop and a 6e cargo rack. And if you dont have prismatics, normal 4a shields can do the job...
