Make Elite an MMO again !!

I find it interesting that so many of the people advocating a bribe bonus to play in open and say they aren’t trying to penalise PG and solo use the phrase open only in their posts.
 
We're not advocating changes to solo nor pg and using that as a counter argument seems narrow-minded in my view.
The ask is for open only with bonuses to reflect it. And a whole new regime of law n order and accountability. Along with a player run economy.
Choice....choose to partake or not. Knowone is forcing anyone to do anything.
Implemented it would grow over time as we've predicted and in my view would far outstrip its single player equivalent.
I play in Mobius only so I like the idea of playing with other players. What would convince me to play in open?
1) Balance pass over all the ships and engineered modules - an engineered PVP ship will always take out an engineered PVE ship (and unengineered ships? You may as well stop playing).
2) A central server (with monthly fee) with hundreds of players in the same instance and a developer intent on rooting out all cheaters.
3) A complete overhaul on the Crime & Punishment system with a special focus on how PVP works - not stop it but introduce actual consequences for a players actions.
4) A dynamic economic model with player based trading (not real world cash but maybe mats or engineered modules or AX weaponry for credits).
5) Player generated missions, quests and storylines with the ability to seed the galaxy with their own stuff - even <male member> shaped space anomalies would be preferable to the copy / paste stuff that is out there...

The point is that it's a repeated theme, meaning a substantial number of people spontaneously come to the same view. If it's enough people then it becomes a motivation for change. There clearly is something that grates with a lot of people. The fact that you don't like that it does..., etc., etc.

Fwiw I think the OP's is a lost cause, but it doesn't make the broader underlying issues irrelevant. What would constitute a good change that FDev might implement is another matter, over which we likely have little control.
It is indeed a repeated theme, though I disagree that people spontaneously come to the same view. The thing is there are a lot of repeated themes that people think should be in the game, or shouldn't be in the game.

It's not that I don't like that it grates people at all, it doesn't bother me any more than the arguments about flight model, or SC model, or lack of PvP orientation, or some of the other recurring themes that come up. Everyone has an opinion, but it should also be realised that asking to change one of the fundamental building blocks of a game is very, very unlikely to happen.
 
See how convoluted the discussion becomes. Not taking the concept to heart is one thing. Destroying it with misinformation like solo is as risky as open...how does a cmdr come to that conclusion?
The risk is obvious hence the bonus.
So stay solo work harder and you'll be ok. I don't care who does what l know what I'd do.
Anyways perhaps this isn't the right time to be discussing what's obviously a sensitive subject.

I have probably spent in excess of 3,000 hours flying in open...
In the past 3 years I've lost at most 6 ships to human players.
I have probably seen less than 100 players (hollow squares / triangles) over all of those hours
In the same 3 years I have probably lost in excess of 15 ships not to humans..

Where is all that obvious risk again?

What is the big deal then?! Buff Inf gains on Open, since there is minimal risk, anyone wanting a bit more Inf can play open. Anyone who prefers zero risk stays solo/PG.

I echo these wishes. We need ship interiors and a piracy/smuggling revamp as careers, including better tools for the job!

That's the only sensible argument against it I've seen in this thread, I concede.

Something which is always overlooked and ignored by people making the suggestions. Same applies to Xbox.

If it isn't a big deal there is no need for the bribe to play in open.

Also if open isn't significantly more dangerous than solo or PG what is it about it that makes people stay away?
