To play as a PvP'er does require some time invested in making sufficient credits for rebuys as well as collecting a huge amount of high-grade materials (or trading for them) to engineer ships to both compete and survive - hence the x2 suggestion for everything in open...
Is there a suggestion that all players who prefer PvP do all of their earning and material gathering in Open at the moment?

Thinking about this post in particular (ignoring the ones that have gone before) the motivation for posting is, understandably, posted from a PvP perspective (although not blatantly obvious from the original post) which is not a 'bad thing' in its own right, as it highlights a couple of 'issues' faced by those players...

Is open so 'barren' because of players making good use of the block feature, or are the majority now playing in PG & Solo? (I'm assuming the frequent calls for 'open whatever' are made for a purpose)

The organised PvP Community (perhaps a call to @Slange Lands is in order here - she may be able to introduce the OP to a very good community, or at least provide some great pointers) appear to manage supporting their play without demands that everyone join them, or demanding 'extras' because of their choice.

BGS manipulation is least favoured by PvP action - yes, it makes sense for a group to have a couple of their PvP players in open as a distraction, but at best it is just a nusiance for the opposition, at worst actually damaging the faction being supported. So the BGS part of the discussion can be discounted as simply a smokescreen, from my own experience, of course :)

I guess what I bring from this is that the OP wishes to highlight how tough it is for a PvP player to progress in the game so they deserve 'special' treatment for playing in their mode of choice... Well, it doesn't hurt to ask, does it?
I have a lot of sympathy for the view that this game doesn't cater well for PvP activities. Someone who wants to do PvP has to do a load of PvE stuff first, and after that finds that there are no in-game organised PvP activities and the size of the galaxy makes it hard to find opponents.

This is of a piece with the way FD leave every profession though. They see their role as providing a sandbox and within this players must make their own amusement. E.g. explorers organise expeditions, racers pick a planet with canyons, AX players wing up and look for Thargoids. Well, PvPers have been offered CQC which requires no PvE at all, but it's not quite what they want for various reasons.

I sympathise, but I think the PvP community here hammer away repeatedly at the wrong answer. The right answer would be to organise PvP tournaments with rules about what ships should be used and where. Some such activities take place; if OP didn't know this maybe someone would give him info. The wrong answer is "Make everyone do PvP" as if this will somehow solve the need to do PvE stuff, the need for organised activities and the size of the galaxy - it won't.

Of course not! ;)
(I seem to recall some 'well-known' names casually mentioning that mat gathering in particular was done in solo from the recent past)
Ah - so playing in whichever game mode one wishes when engaged in particular activities is A-OK - apart from when players affect the game in Solo and PG?

Feels like a double standard.

.... and an out-of-game rule that no-one need comply with.

The organised PvP Community are, in general, not in the habit of trying to push their agenda loudly, despite some disagreements with comments in the past I do hold their community in high regard as they make the effort to give interested players events to enjoy.

The 'other' PvP players are the ones that make much more noise, want everyone in open for 'reasons' and extra bonus rewards for their chosen path... And, understandably, more players to "PvP" with, particularly if those players find PvP a total waste of time :)

Sorry to 'force' a distinction onto your comment - but there does appear to be at least 2 distinct 'groups' of PvP players in the game, of which only one group seem to be positively engaged with the community as a whole ;)

Hi all again, sorry I couldn go back to the thread in a couple days, and again sorry for my poor english.

I hope you all have fun with the thread either you agree or not with my proposal of "something has to be done in open".

I take my time to read all your answer and I basically grow in my mind the idea of some player groups here. No offense intended in the groups names, really, just trying to clarify what it really is among my around 30 years experience in multiplayer videogames (massive or not)

1) The Mosquitos, like me, are pvp gankerz always buzzing around and molesting with game breaking changes that affect the 99,99999999999% non crazy playerbase. Im not a pvp player but as it seems assumed by the posters, I am, so lets face it. Forget the idea maybe I just want more human interaction in a virtual universe. I am a ganker, face it!

2) The Whales, let my game as it is right now. No changes please. I really like it as it is now. If you change some come mechanic the cataclysm is inminent. (maybe they are right)

3) The Carebears, Im very afraid of someone blowing my ship. I costs me 20 millions of my 567778364783203 millions acccount!!

4) The Communist, I prefer everyone with a 1k salary, if some peep is going to win a 2k salary that punishes me somehow.

5) The Coders. Its impossible to do because code, and code cannot be changed. Blocking, cossplatform problem, lag and so issues will raise and reign forever in Elite.

EDIT :

6) The Forum Police (not talking about Robert or any moderator here)
Hey, you have a search function, dont create threads about a subject that has been discussed thousand times !! Its expensive, time consuming or whatever...The world never changes so things doesnt need to be discused again, also dont write more books about churches, they have beed wroten thosand times. Also dont create western movies, we have a thousand too...

-----------------------------

Lets face it. We can discuss but we will never agree to a satisfactory point all of us.We are extremely entiled to our ideas.

Aniway having fun reading you all guys, no matter if you agree that something needs to change to become a better game or not.

Thanks all for your replies.

6) The PvEers: To me, PvP is a tedious waste of valuable game time so I don't engage in it (or let anyone else engage me in it) while playing this game where the design makes PvP entirely optional.

Always good to get another name for the block list :)

Im sorry to tell you but Elite is actually a Multiplayer game, massive or not.

And multiplayer doesnt mean other players are always helping and cooperating with you.

Mosquitos exist and want a place for them in the Milky Way !!

This pops up frequently amongst talk of fear of Open and I honestly feel it’s childish, dishonest and mildly insulting, no offence intended. I really can’t understand why people think PvEers are scared of gankers; they’re not scary in the slightest, but at times they are annoying and for me personally, break my immersion. I’ll illustrate with two examples from my own gameplay I like to use.

Firstly, at an Open Conflict Zone CG. Getting ganked there wasn’t scary, it was a literal warzone! Shooting and explosions are meant to happen, and even a no-communication instant rebuy gank can be full of context for your gameplay. To the point, I was interdicted and destroyed by a hostile CMDR who could have had myriad reasons to want to disrupt my in-game actions. If I was a better pilot or ship builder I could have even given a good go at it, but as it was I died in about 3 seconds and we both got a good laugh out of it.

The second example is why I sometimes choose Solo/PG, though again it happened at a CG hotspot where you’d expect to find high player traffic. This time it was at an AX CG, and I was en route to meet up with some players I’d met on here to join the fight against the alien menace. About 30 seconds after arriving in the CG system in my AX build I was interdicted by another CMDR. Again, this wasn’t a scary experience, but it was a truly annoying and immersion-breaking gameplay disruption. What was that PvPer looking for? It certainly wasn’t a fair fight, his plasma fire against my AX outfit; the best I could have done was aggressively tickled his shields. I managed to escape every gank attempt but they added nothing to my gameplay experience and I had to go into a PG just to meet up with the AX wing out there. Those players who tried to force me into a ridiculously asymmetrical dogfight were nothing more than a complete waste of my time, leisure time that can be limited in quantity, and I don’t feel like my gameplay should be insulted, belittled or made to be worth less than another player’s because I choose not to waste my time stroking someone else’s ego by being unwilling content for them.

Whether a player ever encounters another player, much less an antagonistic player, is entirely up to them.
And multiplayer doesnt mean other players are always helping and cooperating with you.

Mosquitos exist and want a place for them in the Milky Way !!
Add the Mosquitos list of wants to the list that other players have been adding to for years, e.g. the game lacks an Open-PvE game mode.

Never mind, a little DDT and the Mosquitos no longer exist...

You play the game you want, that is fine and good, just don't expect players to be lining up to play along with you, you may be somewhat disappointed 🤷‍♂️

Lets do a fun experiment and translate it to real world.

A thief with a weapon asks for your wallet.

You tell him : "Hey, I dont want to live in the same world as you, you are a PVPer Ganker Mosquito!! I will ask my gods to do a PvE universe!!"

In this case gods attended and create a solo/private group mode for you and a open mode for others.

And heres the problem. Fdev is god here, Neo.

So we talk to them in formus asking for some changes we dont like.

I have no problems with your whale attitude while you should have no problems with my Mosquito interactions.

It's a slow week in Lockdown... We need a little light entertainment and this particular 'dead horse' does provide the best of its kind...

I really love that gankers think they are a) scary & b) special... Well not unless you consider the use of 'special' that gets an infraction from the mods ;)

Just block them same as they block those who want change.
Do think it's a shame I'm blocking moderator's. I thought they were supposed to be impartial.
