ED newsletter #24: “Will there be hidden societies such as secret orders to encounter in Elite: Dangerous?
Yes, there’ll be a range of characters representing a number of organisations ranging from the major power blocs, to crime syndicates and organisations with hidden agendas. Part of the appeal of the Elite: Dangerous galaxy is the breadth of human interaction that you can become involved in. The primary vehicle for this interaction will be the missions, and of course it’s something we will build on as we further expand the game, notably when you’re able to get out of the cockpit.”

TDW anyone?

Indeed. I picked it up when I was helping him with his (abandoned) mapping of NGC-6357. I say picked it up, it's actually more of a cheap knock off I put together myself whist out that way. The secret is to actually make it from tin, and not aluminium :D.
Proper Tin is the way to go - ya I fell for the classic blunder of relying on aluminum foil... I wrapped the whole Asp in it... but it provided inadequate protection and wore off in no time.... I ended up succumbing to the Raxxlan psionic waves....

Perhaps, but on the other hand perhaps we haven’t yet been invited to join TDW because we haven’t been playing the missions as FD expected us to?

Perhaps a hint as to how they thought we would play it might help with that!

But I digress; obviously we need re-education into FDev's expectations and way of doing things rather than them modifying the game to match how actual players play. ;-)

Have a look through

Specifically, though I seem to remember another quote too

By this time, I think missions have been played in every way possible. There is probably no way to get an invitation to the DW station.
There is or at least was very little player history stored on the FD servers. Basically just your current status. There is a bit now with the Codex, but not much. You store the points you get, but not how you got them.
I also doubt The Dark Wheel is interested in regular mission runners. You would probably have to do more than show loyalty and trustworthiness, to impress them.

Thanks @Jorki Rasalas I'll check them out. I was being a bit facetious, and I do recall that video with DB discussing Arena and how they thought players would play as apposed to staying within small areas.

@Han_Zen - I concur, so I'm actually working my way through the Codex entries of all the entries within the Inner Orion Spur for all Astronomical Bodeis, Biological and Geological and Xenological to 'tick' them all off, as well as working on my Combat to gain 3x Elite - and unlock all the engineers and Grade 5 something from each (where possible).

I know others have done a lot of this before me, but can't hurt and it's fun to actually just play the game, explore and fight as I want... if an invite comes because of it, great, but if not it's still an awesome game to while away time in.

Fly Dangerously,

@Han_Zen Yes I agree.

In the IRH Discord there is some discussion over engineers. Felicity Farseer may well be a DW member (likely also the Ryder girl, whereas Premonition clearly tells us that Elvira and Bill are associates of The Club). Actually I think there may be 3 TDW members in the engineers to cater for combat, trading and exploration aspects.

In her engineering upgrade messages Felicity says she’s been to the Coalsack, while for her grade 5 fsd upgrade she talks about “crossing the biggest and most dangerous rifts in the Void....you won’t need to fear anything with this. Your courage will be your limitation, not your ship.”

And TDW description from the Codex “A legendary group of adventurers, explorers, investigators and treasure-hunters; only a handful of the bravest and most competent pilots of each generation are honoured with an invitation to join; it is always they who initiate contact, initially in disguise, revealing their true identity only once a suitable test of courage and skill has been discreetly administered, and passed.”

Well, Felicity is in disguise as she’s not admitting to membership, but speaks in the Codex about TDW closing down imitators, therefore may well be TDW and clearly supports explorers and adventurers with her upgrades. So is her engineering message actually “the test of courage and skill being discreetly administered”?

Jorki has been out to the Coalsack, and also to Zurara in the Formidine Rift, but there are others including, I believe, one in The Void galactic region which is suggestive
So what possible test completion criteria would we have to meet? 🧐 Clearly visiting Zurara wasn’t sufficient as I’m still waiting for an invitation.

I feel a long distance trip coming on... Wonder if Tyko wants to take up the mantle while Jorki continues to search for Raxxla in Sol? Not that I’m doing any flying at the moment. Real life gets in the way!!

and you did not think that there are already pilots who have found everything and write here that this method does not work, I checked it to confuse us?

What we 'know' is that TDW only talks to Elites (unless you are Salome 😁 ). The 'Elite key' opens one door and that is Shinrarta Dezhra. Next step should logically be in there.
The only obvious unique thing we find there are the Elite / Founder missions. They don't seem to do anything yet, so we may be looking into a dead end, at the moment.

There is of course the possibility of hidden messages in the mission texts, but that hasn't really given us anything concrete so far.

I have a vague feeling that the Sap 8 Core missions were some kind of foreshadowing of the Guardian mysteries. Perhaps the guardian mission is the last box we can check for now? Perhaps the Thargoid machine is one? I'm not really sure, because both of these can be completed without the Founders permit.🤷‍♂️

Either way, I doubt all the pieces are available yet. The info on the TDW station came with the Codex and has never been confirmed to be accessible or even in the game.

Out of interest, I'm still in The Void. Been there around 14 months now. Any specific sectors you want me to look at, I can head that way. I'm mostly just meandering about aimlessly (for the most part) anyway.

That's also my working theory that Farseer is DW. DW is searching for Raxxla and Farseer wants cartography to level up? Kind of makes sense, right?
On my list of stuff to try: Provide more cartography to Farseer although she's already at level 5.

I also noticed that Elvira's base has an interesting name: "Long Sight Base". I find it funny, because I read "Farseer" as "someone who sees far". So you have "Long Sight Base" against "Farseer Inc".

Also there are a few mission types, like the "Trading Beacon", then there are those tips you get from unknown people (where you have to scan a land base; according to this forum, those tips are actually a dead end). Sometimes you get a standard mission (bring us XX of YY) from an unknown mission giver.
Whenever I get those missions from people in disguise I always do those, but lately I don't get them anymore. I only got them when I was following the Wreaken Corp-lead (mostly in the Ega-system).

Odd structure in the space-port I'm in at the moment that I noticed on the way in, has anyone else noticed these on a Coriolis Starport before?

It's probably just a graphic artist being fancy, but the pattern is repeated all around the entry/exit. I'll keep an eye out when I re-visit other locations next session, but just struck me as rather Guardian like...

The T-9 Trades missions get given if you stay in a system for long enough ~15mins? Maybe you are hopping around more..

Yes, someone at FD likes puns! But DW told us in Premonition that Elvira used to be an assassin (I don’t think that fits the Codex description of TDW) and was an associate of The Club. FD had to proof read the official books, so I guess it has to be true!
But I haven’t seen anything to date that suggests that the usual missions we see are the way to get the TDW invitation. As Han_Zen says above the logical thing was for the Shinrarta Dezhra missions to do this, after getting the Founders World permit on gaining Elite rank, to lead to TDW but the likely-looking Elite missions (see first post) that were there seem to have disappeared a long time ago. Or possibly they still exist but we’re not triggering them? I find it interesting that FD response to some of the player questions on those missions was something like “cannot comment at this time”, which shouts to me that there is something in them, and they are still in-game, but then why aren’t we seeing them???

@Spock: I don’t know mate. I’m speculating with ideas and have no solutions. How would TDW assess “cross the biggest and most dangerous rifts in the void” for this to be a sensible criterion? Would there be a list of systems at either side & you’d have to have visited/surveyed at least one of each? Or are there some sights out there that are must-visits for brave adventurers/explorers? Presumably you’d have to sell the exploration data to TDW faction at Neuman Camp, which might explain their existence in SD.

@Han_Zen: the SAP8 items sounded to me like Guardian crystals. You could be right & maybe there’s something in the Guardian sites/Beacons that we haven’t triggered yet. Or maybe TDW just aren’t recruiting at the moment. Perhaps they’re all self-isolating with Covid? 😉

@SkyRock: you sound grumpy. I don’t know, this thread is a forum for discussion. I have no idea if, or who, has crossed the various rifts in-game. That’s why I raised the possibility. But I’m 100% sure that nobody has found everything yet! Too little has been explored to date. 😁

That pattern seems to be fairly common in stations, I’ve seen it before. But hexagonal patterns are quite frequent, hence my hypothesis that Guardian AI is behind the nav computers-record the screen when you select the nav panel. Just before the alphameric text appears the panel is full of Guardian-like symbols. 😉
