Why doesn't FD show more stuff of Odessey?

Not aimed at anyone in particular but I'm loving the all the mangled spellings of Odyssey that are floating around.
Frontier have chosen one of the worst words to spell.
It doesn't follow the standard English language word structure so non-english commanders wont naturally be able to spell it and (has been seen) some of those who can write english will struggle.
It'll make google searching for information a nightmare.

Apart from actual gameplay, which I assume will still be being worked on, what's left to be revealed?
Elite Dangerous - you can fly in space
Elite Horizons - you can land on planets
Elite Beyond - your commander now has a face - you can multi-crew into other ships so you can see other commanders.
Elite Odyssey - you can walk / shoot / jump / crouch* on planets (*delete as appropriate)
I use an auto spell checker so I can write Oddisayy correctly every time. ;)

My best guess on why they have not shown more info is that there really is not that much to show. And with the delay in the release date they have to string us along with tiny little bits of new info alot less often to line up with the new dates.

I'm still waiting for PC minimum specs. I only have a 4GB GTX760 and would like to know if I'm ok. I'm looking to upgrade though but finding a GFX card these days is a bit of an ask. :)
They’re reworking the entire game so this guy and players on consoles from 2013 can play it.

But seriously, I don’t think the game is feature complete or they really are reworking systems, graphics, or gameplay elements that they thought would work on old hardware.

I look forward to stations with 4 NPCs and settlements with a handful of vendors 😛

Why dont they show more? Modern media, PR and expectation management strategies I imagine?

Not that I agree with it, I would love a more informal get-the-devs-talking-infront-of-the-camera approach as we have seen a few times already, but thats modern game dev business practices for you!

Voice to text stops any problems with odd at sea I find.

If they show too much we get too hyped and let down, if they show too little and surprise us we forget all about it, Frontier have always preferred the second option. Dont say anything about anything and its better for the player when they find it.

Thats the idea anyway. ,,

As I see it, the timing of releases and hype control has been totally wrecked by lockdowns. I’m sure this will have affected timed releases for Galnet news also. They couldn’t have foreseen a second long lockdown when they were planning the run up to the already delayed release of Odyssey.

So hype releases will inevitably be stretched out a bit before final release.

Otherwise, the game comes out and everybody goes “Is that it?” 🤷‍♂️

They appear to be following the same track that they followed since post Horizons
i.e. reveal very little as the Community Managers are so far removed from the coding that they can't talk with authority on any of the features, and the coders or project managers cant speak with with any authority as they only know about their little bit of code.
It only comes together at the end when the executive producers (for example Adam Woods), support the final reveal.

too much information, too early, and the rampant speculation of the community takes the team into areas that they either can't or dont want to talk about. Arthur has said as much.

I expect
Big / final Community Management reveal - end of March
Alpha - April (over the Easter period + a bit)
Release to PC - May

couple of weeks to wait yet.

So we are a couple of months away from the release, so they should have tons of material to show....but nothing, so far.

What do you think?

The obvious surface reason is that they've pushed back the launch date by a significant amount now. That's going to throw any PR hype ramping into disarray. So they're on pause with the glossy stuff and behind the scenes peeks. (Which is all going to change pretty significantly with the alpha, so they'll probably try and time little hype steps leading up to that in March).

Whether there's a more tricksy cause underpinning the delays than covid strife alone that might make them hesitant to share more info, we can't really discern. (IE struggles with the classic 'make the systems gel' / 'make them flow' / 'make it fun' stage which comes towards the end of production). Guess we'll know more in the alpha ;)

I'll agree with the people that say there likely isn't much to show, they are behind schedule but have apparently learned a tiny nugget from past hyped releases of unfinished product and stopped trying to get people excited for something that is going to be a huge disappointment to the people that really really want it to be great. (it won't be)

If they show off their terrible ideas or backwards implementation of headline features now, there's still enough time that the community might get worked up enough to demand that they change it. If they show everything at the 11th hour and then go straight to release; we'll already be in "it is what it is" territory and they won't have to listen to feedback. Don't get me wrong - they don't have to listen to feedback under ANY circumstances; but the more feedback they receive, the more they have to ignore. You can't be accused of ignoring feedback when there isn't any, and the best way to avoid receiving feedback is to avoid putting out information.

Brilliant.

Because if you show stuff people are excited for 5 minutes and then want to see more new stuff. You might as well only show things that are really polished.

I too want to see new stuff all the time, but it's just the same as wanting your Christmas presents in November.
