General / Off-Topic Greatest Space Movies of All-Time "Opinions"

As good as Blade Runner is, it is not a space movie. Firefly is a series, should be Serenity instead.

My list:

2001 A Space Odyssey
Serenity
Gattaca (well, they are _heading_ to space)
Solaris (the 2002 version - it is a nice film!)
Oblivion (perhaps not spacey enough)
Gravity
Contact (although the ending could have been improved)
The Fountain
Star Wars (original trilogy)

Does it have to be space flight, or just "not on Earth"?

Apollo 13
Total Recall (Ahnuld version)*
Independence Day*
Enemy Mine
Galaxy Quest
Armageddon

imho thread is missing a mention the [5th element]

Hardware. Imagine turning up a Mark 13 buried on a desert planet and it reassembling itself in your cargo bay using your Resonating Separators freight.

What's the movie with a weird orange snailesque spaceship where the ship AI sacrifices itself for its buddy pilot (at least that's what I sort of remember). I watched it in the 80's/90's and was interested in seeing it again.

+1 to that. I'd love to see something as reminiscent of a ghost (sailing) ship as the Cygnus in ED.

Could be Red Dwarf, depending how psychoactive your diet was back then.

Apollo 13
Because this is a movie in which most of the action takes place in outer space... but it's not science fiction.
It's a historical drama.
That is just too cool for words.

Wasn't aware Blade Runner was set in space, musta missed that. (It's mentioned repeatedly about Off World Colonies of course).
And the Total recall remake too ? Thought they only went through the earths core ?

Whilst it is not a movie. I do think that Red Dwarf deserves a mention. Sci-fi humour at its best (at least the first three series).....
