Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Do people prefer that with HOTUS? It feels really unworkable.
I couldn't deal with it at all on Mouse/Keyboard to start with, but having a HOTAS made a huge difference, especially for learning - at least, it did for me.

Getting the feel of nudging the stick to get the right amount of correction provided a really good feedback mechanism. Also much easier to learn when just making small, slow jaunts around a station for practice 😅

It would be even easier with dual stick, I think. The throttle can be hard, because the instinct is to just keep it "on" :D

Even if you just start messing with FA off to do turns in combat, it can make a huge difference, and be very satisfying! It breaks the cycle of jousting that combat often can be.

Thanks. The station and combat ideas seem like good things to practice with so I'll try to think about that when I'm looking for things to do.

The X52 seems to jump around a bit even after modding but it can probably do the job.

Question for you hotshots. How many of you can regularly SOLO those elite WING assassination missions? I have such trouble with 3 engineered ships blasting me all at once. What kind of build do you guys use?
I only do them on occasion, but I've not lost one. This is the ship I used:

If I was gonna do them regularly, I'd put more hull and module reinforcements in there. Some of those hi-end guys do a lot of damage right through my shields.

I been using a multipupose (collector limpet, SRV, 64t cargo) bi weave build and hoping that I could use a medium to do those missions.

Looking at the stats for your 'vette, holy crap thats about 7-8 times more absolute shields than my krait. Bet you could just throttle off and punch its way thru the mission. Bet you dont even need to fire the SCB. Based on my damage vs their, I was estimating about 3 times more shields on my Krait would let me comfortably pull it off, your Big Monch there with its higher firepower should mow thru easily.

Been putting off rigging up a combat corvette as I hate the 'flying around' to complete the experimentals bit. Looks like I gotta get around to it.

Another question. I been messing around a bit in Coriolis and it seems a T10 with 8A Prismatics has less shields than a Corvette with 7A Prismatic? How does that work?

Lemme know if you are doing that! I need credits to feed my crac....carrier purchase.
I will!

It's a great idea although I've never looked into it so I have no idea how to place buy orders :D

If I do do it, I'll post in here. At present, I'm just credit gathering myself - money for a rainy day and surprises down the line sort of thing. There didn't look to be anything in Odyssey that would drain the coffers but you never know.

Looks like materials could be a grind though.

It is down to the ship itself some are what are called shield tanks where like the FdL the shields are very strong others produce much less shield strength from the same module the Federal xships for example.
If you put 7A Prismatics in both ships the Corvette‘s shields are twice as strong, the T10 was designed to be an anti Thargoid ship and as they can cause damage through shields hull strength was more important than shields.

Some of the Alliance ships are pretty hardy too - or, at least, they have been when I've fought them. Their shields are not overly strong but they take a good hammering on their armour before they go up in flames.

EDIT

I'm toying with the idea of switching my 'Vette to an all-laser build. Pulses everywhere. Could knock the PD down quickly though so pip management will be vital. Hmm... dunno.

My piloting skills are a bit meh, so I tend to compensate by engineering the heck out of my ships :) I don't generally go in for long combat sessions in the 'Vette, so I want max shield strength and I don't care about recharge time.

I have had to hit the SCB, but it's rare. Having my hull damaged through the shields also happens with some enemies.

The only time I really feel like a "apex predator" is when I'm in the 'Vette. There isn't much PVE-wise that can really threaten me, and nothing that can destroy me before I can escape. I feel like the shark instead of the minnow :)

That said, I actually spend more time in other ships, simply because they are more suited to things I do more of, like mining or exploring. But for assassination missions or CZs I take the 'Vette for sure.

I actually have 2 Corvettes, with similar builds. One was my "Colonia Corvette" back before I had a carrier. I had a small fleet in Colonia to use when I went out there. Nowadays I just take all my ships with me wherever I go :p

Just looked at your 'Vette build. Looks like I ought to rethink my armour and shield gen! It's interesting how ours are similar yet so different!

Yours looks good to me, it’s biweaves but that’s a choice for faster regen.
Yes, that's true. And the prismatics look like a grind to get :D

I'm ditching the ADMU's - not quite sure why I put them on. Replaced one with a Guardian shield booster and I'm about to unlock the Guadian module reinforcement.

Cheers! (y)

Really? You sign up, go after your business for a month, then return, grab your T9, spend 50 million and half an hour of your time hauling some paperwork and boom. Next Thursday you have Prismatics.

The only grindy bit in this process used to be getting money. Well, that's not really an issue, now, even if you don't exploit the PP bonuses you get.

Yeah, I joined the Empire for prismatics and maybe some gameplay options, but the only reason I didn't stick with the task is because I realised I didn't really want them. It wasn't due to grind or anything.

Nah, it's easy. Join up, do nothing for 3 weeks, deliver some leaflets, that's it.

I bought a bunch of them, then quit. I use them a lot, actually, so I'm glad I did it.

They come in handy for when you want a smaller shield to put in a smaller slot to make room for something else, but you still want good shield strength.

In addition to stuff like the 'Vette. :p

Hmm.

Perhaps I should try things out before misreading between the lines of a Reddit post!

Thing is though, aren't the bi-weaves better in terms of recharge times therefore getting you back into the fight quicker?
