Horizons/Odyssey Compatibility - Further Details

For the Bindings this is a matter of the version embedded in the file name (and also in the XML contents) changing from 3.0 to 4.0. At least that's what happened in Odyssey Alpha. The Alpha did not appear to actually do anything like this for any of the other options files, despite what this forum OP says.

Did you missed that when switching from Odyssey to Horizons Holo-Me will be reset do default one? Not just Odyssey stuff removed but reset to default.
Nope - I just didn't care - No one else can see my face anyway - the exceptions being if I was in an SRV with other people in an instance ( very rare ) or Mutlicrew'd ( even more rare since I never managed to get that to work ).

Yeah, that, if accurate (it could be a misunderstanding/miswording), would be very annoying.

So people with pink hair in your instance means nothing to you?

Sorry mate, but I can recognize my friends in local chat just by their Holo-Me without reading names.

Crime
When playing Odyssey after playing Horizons:
  • Existing commanders’ crimes will be cleared when they first play Odyssey.
  • Crimes on players’ ships will be transferred to their commander.
When playing Horizons after having played Odyssey:
  • Crimes will be transferred from commanders to their active vessel.
  • Impounded ships will be released, but the impound cost will be added to the bounty for that vessel.
Question about crime.

Let's say that, after I first played Odyssey, I log back to Horizons.
While I am playing Horizons I go on a killing spree and fill my FdL with as many bounties I can.
Then I log back to Odyssey, the bounty of the FdL will be added to my CMDR.
In Odyssey I switch to a Sidewinder, embark my Sidey then logoff.
Back to Horizons now.
If what you told us it's true, the bounty originally linked to the FdL is now being transfered to the Sidewinder.

And that's quite the problem.

Does this imply that crimes assignment works differently in Odyssey an Horizons (on ships with Horizons and on commander with Odyssey)?
Sorry, i've always been confused about the C&P system and i didn't pay attention to it in the alpha.

So gankers get some free play time for the next few months - good luck to them. ( I'm not convinced most gankers are cleaver enough to have worked this out - but now you've pointed it out to them ... )

I'll still be playing in a private group.

ahahahaha took around 3 seconds to arive at that conclusion for an average human, but not for a game developer! absurd

That is the implication - and since we now commit crime on foot I guess it makes sense - technically I still think our 'player' is still bound to a single active ship ( even if it's a default sidewider and you've never flown it ) - but placing the bounty on the 'player' and not the ship they happened to be flying makes more sense to me anyway. There was a reason FDev did that original but the whole C/P system was always a confusing mess - and still is.

I am not sure if this is really a problem. In Horizons, you can save different holo-me configurations and load them again. I don't think that this will go away, so after a default reset, just load your holo-me configuration again. Perhaps make a second config as copy of your current CMDR if you think that the default slot will be erased.

EDCD are aware of some answers to some of the technical questions in this thread, but you'll probably need to wait for the Community Team to be made aware of them and reply in this thread.

Anyone consuming Journals stay tuned.

The crimes part still bugs me.
Do we currently have crimes tied to the commander? in Horizons i mean... iirc no, they're tied to the ship
so what means "Existing commanders’ crimes will be cleared when they first play Odyssey"

In Horizons if you have 2bn bounties on a G5 engineered FDL and you die and dont have the money to pay, you lose the FDL. Right?
Then:
If i switch to Odyssey with 2bn bounty FDL, do those 2bn bounty transfer to my Commander? then what? if i die on foot what do i lose?
Then:
if i buy a new sidewinder then log to horizons, do i transfer the 2bn bounty to the sidewinder? and in the process of 2 relogs i do clear my G5 FDL from any bounties?

Odyssey use same saves. From what I've read till now I would assume that the saves will be overwritten by EDO hance unusable by Horizons.

That assumes they also reset the saved holo-me configurations.
Would be good if Frontier could clarify this. But even so having to go in and change the holo-me everytime is going to get annoying.
