Horizons/Odyssey Compatibility - Further Details

My guess (from Bruce's OP) is that EDO binds etc are located in a different folder. I could be wrong though
We won't know until tomorrow night on that - in the Alpha they were NOT in a different folder, just the keys binds file has a version number on it.
Has they use XML for the configs, unless they completely changed the structure then there wouldn't be a technically reason use a different configuration file for the graphics and sound, the new file format would just have a few new entries that the Horizons client would ignore. The only reason to split to a new folder ( or file version ) would be if the new graphics means people will have to lower setting to play Odyssey vs Horizons. Then splitting the files makes sense.

Anticipating the possibility that existing ships may not be automatically upgraded, and having spent most of 2021 as a guest on a friend's carrier far from civilisation last week I flew 50,000ly back to the bubble to buy a carrier, fill it with fuel and a pack of Sidewinders, Cobras & Vipers for my friends to buy & scavenge the APLS from, I am currently waiting on my carrier in Colonia (nearest dock to the rest of the fleet, another 28,000ly away) waiting for Odyssey to drop so I can buy the Odyssey gear for my Cmdr & find out whether I need to keep the sidewinders on my carrier or not.

It'll probably be fine, but if it isn't I'm ready, and I want to buy the explorer suit with it's bio scanner anyway.

Plus it was something to do ;)
I hadn't thought of that. Thx. At least your response was of some use, maybe. LOL. Fly safe CMDR 07

Yeah, I played the alpha and had lots of fun with my bindings dissapearing a couple of times :p

Trueeeee, either way it's just speculation though and won't change anything between now and tomorrow. Until tomorrow, speculation is all we have though 😅

Note that "didn't expect to happen" != "will not happen".
True, although if they couldnt work out it would change from a GTX 470 to a GTX 780 then they have bigger issues.

Note that Horizons Recommended spec was a 770.

I will ask around my game dev friends to see if they have any old cards they dont need...

I'll be surprised if FDev make us do that. For Horizons didn't they just fit all the ships automatically with the PLS ? I don't remember having to re-outfit my ships ? ( it was a long time ago now and my memory is not great ).

I'm 99% sure that FDev will upgrade the PLS to a APLS on all ships for all Odyssey customers - the real question is if you have a ship with a APLS and you load back into Horizons will it now show as a regular PLS ? or still show as an APLS but you just can't use it ?

Did you play the alpha?

If so you would have noticed that in Phase 4, when your own ships were imported, each of them had the Advanced device installed a very short while after they were imported.

Of course, if you didn't, don't believe anything anyone else found out and wait until tomorrow to find out for yourself. If you haven't preordered and are still deciding a quick question to anyone who has bought Odyssey, if phrased politely, may get you a polite response.
I'm surprised so many people here can not read. I suppose ignorance really is bliss. o7 Fly safe.

Perhaps they should. A repeat of CP2077 launch would be terrible - best to take another year or so to get it right, surely?
But not in its current state. Either delay the whole thing or launch it alltogether in a ready state. But what they are doing now is a half-baked expansion that just isn't ready on the technical side. It's of utmost importance to reunite the player base asap or in other words, ensure the expansion is compatible with the rest of the existing game.
I can only imagine what technical chaos is hiding behind that decision in the first place and that only indicates to me that something went very wrong behind the scenes. So my appeal is to not delay the absolutely necessity of work even further as that should have been done by toda- oh wait, "late 2020".

Well, the announcement for Autumn appears confident...

Those of us who have purchased Odyssey will find out tomorrow if there are notable issues with Odyssey. The community has always been split with no crossplay and having 3 modes for each platform, it is only a few months until 'unification' - as much as that might mean.

Please point me to where this is stated. All I've found on ED Wiki was that we need to updrage to the new APAS. Ships bought in EDO will auto get them. Old ships don't auto get them. As for suits, seems like a perfect opportunity to add suit stores as modules to FC's, but I guess that was not considered yet.
It was never actually stated.
I assumed this was behaviour since me, and nobody I know has ever mentioned buying an approach suite, its just there.
I don't know if I particularly trust the Elite wiki as a source of information its managed poorly and often has horribly out of date or incomplete information.

In the alpha all my transfered ships never had a problem landing on planets.
Same when Horizons came out, the only time was when I accidentily sold the module

IMO Horizons should receive a patch tomorrow, as least so it knows how to behave with and around the new-born
True. I was more referring to bug fixes that will (not?) be backported from Odyssey, including but not limited to the bounties/bonds display still being off after 6 months.

Though if there is a patch I don’t really get why they keep separate binds files.

Can we copy and paste the custom Horizons key bindings (assuming they have been renamed correctly and edited appropriately) to get a start without having to reassign all the key bindings from scratch?
In the alpha my current (named) bindings file was copied across and (empty) on-foot controls appended automatically. (which got filled and renamed too!)

Hopefully you will find the same happens tomorrow.

I vaguely recall doing a copy and paste in phase 3 (I used default bindings until I could fly something.) As long as you respect the internal file format, should work.

Update: As per Rat Catcher’s comments, might get them filled in automatically.

C'mon guys. Requirements are not a problem. It is already 2021, everyone got that cheap 3080 or 3070 from september/october order.

[end of joke]
