Odyssey DLC goes live tomorrow. What's the next big DLC going to be?

It's going to be an exciting launch tomorrow - long anticipated space legs finally become a reality. Of course, it will take some time to polish game mechanics, optimize the performance and get rid of all kinds of bugs and issues, build tons of new content upon the new platform and so on.

It is way ahead of the game, however, I can't help myself but wonder - after all the above, what's the next big game expansion?

Personally, inspired by the moment when you could finally 'stretch those legs', I imagine an epic "trailer" moment when CMDR could walk land in the green fields filled with grass and flowers, disembark, hear singing birds, take the helmet off and inhale an earth-like world air, gaze into sunrise above the horizon where ocean meets the blue sky, turn around, and walk towards the big futuristic city lights with the spaceships traffic above it.

What would you like to see as a next expansion of the game world?

Fdevs barely launched the Beta version of Odyssey and you are thinking in the "next DLC"??

The next DLC shall be the real full Odyssey for all platforms.

Next DLC?

Ship interiors
Small Seismic Charges
Alt-Commander Slot
Small-Mid sized Fleet Carriers
VR in Odyssey
Triple Elite + Elite CQC gets you access to the CobraIV.
Panther Clipper
Clues to Raxxla

Then maybe I'll shell out for a pre-alpha to get those.

Edit:
Opps, Odyssey for consoles too....

Overhaul and bug fixing are not DLC - nobody will pay money for it. What about actual future DLC? What do you think they should add that you would pay money for?

I wish that were true. I've seen devs sell improvements as dlc before. Deus Ex improved boss fights in a paid dlc, for example. I agree it shouldn't be dlc, rather an update. The thing is, PP would require so much work to do it right, I'm willing to bet it could be included in a dlc/expansion that improves PP/BGS/roleplay mechanics. What sold Odyssey was spacelegs. Imo a complete overhaul of PP/BGS/roleplay would take just as much work as ship interiors, and people would indeed pay for it.

I want a big red ball.

I don't get why anybody cares PP at all. For me I see no single reason even to pledge for 4 weeks because I don't do pvp and don't need that pvp modules.

Exactly. No one cares because it sucks and needs a complete overhaul. No one hates factions in an Elder Scrolls game, because they're done right.

No PVP needed to enjoy Cytos, Packhounds and Pacifiers
Well, u need it :) For me, for PVE fight only lasers and maybe railguns engineered for ammo. Hate to run to station each 10 mins. Rockets are good use on something like trader. My cutter throws whole ammo with 1 pirate who interdicted, maybe 2. And then, it's rare use.

@alexzk Maybe my statement was misunderstood due to language differences, I was just saying that some of the PP weapons are fun to use and can't be replicated by non-PP weapons.

Based on your reply I don't think you'd enjoy the Cyto or Pacifier, but Packhounds make everyone smile. 🙂

The early bird and so on...

The next update will be focused entirely on exploration and science.
There will be a lot of different tools, engineering blueprints, new gameplay loops featuring stuff inspired by science.
Furthermore celestial bodies will be more interactable, allowing for radiation readings taking sample which can then be used for synthesis for example.
There will also be missions with scientific goals and exploration background and a ship dedicated to scientific research.
The research limpet controller (yes, there is one!) will be overhauled to be used in many different situations and an important tool to have aboard.
We'll also have more variation for the celestial bodies we already have, like acretion discs, white dwarfs eating their fellow star, black holes on the verge of colliding.
We will also be able to finally siphon fuel from gas giants like in the prequels.
All planets where we could technically land will be landable!

And not to forget, since we have multiple playstyles there must be something for everone:
There will be an additional weapon that will be fired using a minigame.
A new commodity and system state will be introduced offering great opportunities for traders and BGS people.
All the faces of the powerplay personalities will be overhauled so they are more pleasing to look at.
The SRV will get a dedicated mining tool and there will be a ship-launched mining vessels.

I expect ship interiors will be a development inside Odyssey. They just said it would not be there at launch.

The next big DLC? Andromeda? No, the Galaxy is big enough. Let's see - the last few expansions: Landing on planets, fleet carriers, walking on planets. Doing something else on planets is unlikely to be a big draw, unless it is - building your own base on planets! People already have their own stations (i.e. fleet carriers) so the next logical step is a ground base.

Other gameplay elements would only appeal to a subset of the player base: like Raxxla, or more Aliens. There is, of course, Earthlike planets with animals and the like, but that is too NMS. We also have the locked off regions around Barnards Loop - Maybe there are friendly Thargoids - or peace, where you can go and interact, trade, and upgrade with Tharg tech. Possible but unlikely.

So the next big DLC - Player owned bases! What to call it? Elite Dangerous: Homecoming!

I'd like to see a single-player creative mode with a small selection of planets, instant supercruise, instant engineering, all ships available for 1 credit each, enemies that blow up with one shot ... so that people who complain about the real game can go run that instead.

Naked Thargoids (in space. This will make it PEGI18, and split playersbase between Horizons, Odyssey and the next expansion, even in space)

Why would Frontier need to support ED indefinitely? The game had a "10 year plan" and we are already over 6 years into it. Announcing a termination date and stopping sales a couple of years beforehand should be all that is required to close this version down.
Sure, they could. But you started this subthread off by suggesting that a new version would cause less complaint than raising the minimum specs for the game further with the next DLC would. And I think that's only true if the people with below-minimum-spec hardware can continue to play ED anyway - if they're going to close down ED a couple of years after releasing Elite V, then they're almost certainly better off just releasing Elite V as another ED DLC and bumping the minimum specs a bit, as that'll annoy fewer people.

(I'm reminded of all the speculation when the then-unnamed Odyssey was announced three years ago that "new era" meant "new game" - and I don't think any of the arguments against it being one then have stopped applying now)
