CG predictions...

"Direct" control with specific outcomes/consequences (i.e. CGs) is what I don't like.
I think Frontier would largely agree with you on that [1], if you consider what the outcomes of the CGs have been and what the implications of different outcomes would have been.

Some details would have been different but every single competitive CG could have gone the other way and we could still be in basically the same place now in terms of the overall story if Frontier wanted that. Equally we might not.

[1] Also: https://community.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/uid/5b619b4179776120a22eff4e remains as good a statement of what Frontier are trying to do with the story as any.

Though in this case at present the election result and plot is pretty reflective of aggregate player activity, in a much more proportionate way than "who showed up this week".

The issues separating Kaine and Mahon are tied into the substantial BGS expansion of the Alliance and Powerplay expansion of Mahon over the last six years, neither of which had to happen.

The decay of AEGIS and the consequences for the Thargoids becoming mostly "an Alliance problem" are in part due to what happened in Witch Head BGS after the Enclave storyline.

Corporate systems make up 580/1123 (51.6%) of the Alliance, which fits well with Mahon's narrow lead. (Obviously not as simple as Corporates for Mahon and others for Kaine, but it's a decent first approximation of their support bases)

Sure, it's not a "haul Beer for the Alliance rallies" competitive CG, but not everything has to be done that way.

I have no problem with players "indirectly" influencing the story, meaning that Frontier keeps an eye on player actions takes them into consideration where appropriate.

Id like to think thats whats happening but I just dont have that level of faith anymore. Sure it can be 'read' that way but it could also just be a pre-written story that doesnt take anything into account. Trade candidate v War Candidate is just opposite visions of the Alliance.

Too many retcons stomping all over the lore to me means it means very little to Frontier, or they pay very little attention to it when they have the next great idea for a story. id absolutely love to be wrong, I came into this game believing it and have just got battered down by all the actions and events and no 'protection' of the lore or 'reaction' to it long-term. I want to be wrong and always hope but Ive just given up in so many areas.

If Kaine wins and the Alliance 'resets' into what it once was then I can hope. But all indications now are that all the GalNet saying she was a challenge were just fluff and Mahon will win again and its same boss same attitude.

Soooo... seems like no GALNET news today again. Seriously, how long does it take ACT to determine that the Landgreave was just telling them a lot of lies about the NMLA in order to save his hide?

They could have crawled to a conclusion by now, especially if he was innocent...but then they'd have to point the finger at a higher up Imp to explain everything of course.

Well, ever since IISS' Captain Niamh Seutonia got killed it seems like ACT became highly incompetent... Just think about it: Just a few hours after ACT got formed Seutonia revealed that she's already following a promising lead which lead her to the Steel Majesty in Mudhrid... since then: nothing.

It's like the IISS really needs to send out a replacement for the late Captain already so ACT finally gets stuff done again.

Since the last time they followed the "obvious promising lead" it turned out to be a trap that got an entire team killed ... understandable that they're being a bit more cautious about it now.

Then someone leaked that information to LaFosse at an inconvenient moment, which can't be doing much for internal trust, even if it wasn't actually anyone in ACT.

Plus the Federal side of ACT is too busy arresting the Ross 154 Fishing Club after the FIA's automated surveillance misunderstood their emails, which has to be slowing them down a bit.

tbf the FIA cells are probably full atm, its probably 1 out 1 in and you have to book your interrogation weeks in advance....maybe the Imps will let them use Serene Harbour, after all its nothing to do with them at all so they shouldn't mind lending it out.

CG This week - Who can first foot Jamesons Cobra & Dav's Hope (or find them if they moved) maybe?

@Ian Doncaster : As a result of the upcoming Oddy release, has the population changed in Colonia? A nice CG there would be fun.
Unless you count the extra 150,000 from Delaine Terminus a few weeks back, no changes yet.

You can watch the "Alerts" section on https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/progress after Odyssey goes live to see what's both new and auto-detectable. I'm expecting it to be a while before I can catch up on manual...

well looks like you can't rely on the community image at all, new CGs active... alliance related... result of CG will effect "Trade" items the week after..

Interesting.

Additional rares allocation is mostly a fairly weak power given that non-rare goods are nowadays more profitable per tonne - with two exceptions:
1) making future rares CGs easier
2) Lavian Brandy for unlocking Vatermann
As a secondary consideration, a Void Opal mining CG is likely to be much better profitability than a Tritium mining one.

On the other hand, extra stations are always popular - presumably the various Alliance nebulae settlements would be the targets - and the Alliance really likes expanding.

So ... I'm going to predict an easy Mahon win on this one.

Mahon by a mile. Kale munchers luv new stations and systems, and bet you a bottom dollar Mahon will push them in places the Thargoids don't like :D

Laser/surface mining CG Vs core mining CG as a result... hum not sure who should win this current CG but ice rings got nuked so even harder to get VOs now...
Kaine currently winning...

Imo, Kaine is the clear choice from a story perspective. Mahon will win the election anyway because Powerplay, but it's better for everyone if he is maybe less able to carry on helping Sirius/Aegis do their war profiteering.

New stations sounds appealing at a glance, but realistically I doubt it'll do much. There are already a lot of stations. Unsure how the Rares change would work, but it at least has the chance of helping Engineers and CGs like Ian said. But anyone swayed by the rewards will probably pick stations, it's more eyecatching.

I think based on my friends only ofc so small sample, Alliance players will prefer Kaine, dunno about rest of playerbase who joins in though.

If they were serious about improving the Alliance economy they should be talking in terms of Surface Extraction (Cryolite/Pyrophyllite) and High Tech (Performance Enhancers etc.). As a trader if I want to make serious Cr it'll be the T-9 doing this loop, ~15mil per run 3x /Hr :- 45mil /Hr.
Currently the loop favours the Federation as this is where the highest concentration of High Tech economies is.
Beyond that they might look at things such as Micro-weave Cooling Hoses and Energy Grid Assembly which whilst not 'Rare' can be hard to find.

Are the CGs working in odyssey as the New mining changes made it easier to find Cores if you paid for that.....
Is that why kaines crushing it over laser mining...
