VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

OK, it's still bad. The experience has nothing to do with optimization. The transition to the 2d low res virtual flat screen is jarring and it's just a bad experience.

I doubt it will be optimized at release, either. Or even months after release, for that matter.
This is why we don't give Frontier (or anyone for that matter) money before they have a completed product.

No, they really didn't. They gave vague non commital statements.
They made a committed statement before release in 2014 'Made For VR'. Many people saved up to get VR gear to play in VR. Then again, FD dropped Offline Mode just before release. I've no idea what sort of conversation that they have with their Shareholders is.

That has nothing to do with Odyssey, which is what this thread is about.

They initially said no VR in Odyssey. Then they added VR in ships, with the terrible virtual flat screen on foot. They have never committed to supporting VR on foot. They have only given typical PR speech regarding the issue.

I don't see myself buying Odyssey until/unless they implement full VR support.

If the do not commit to VR support , it suggest that they dont plan for elite to keep going a long time, VR is the future of gaming and not supporting it now will have big ramifications in the future.

Yes they already said they will shut Down the Servers on may the 19th, so that's it then

After conversations it will be "Tencent ED: Made for Mobile!" and "Buy ARX!" :D

No, microtransaction ridden FIFA Mobile.
I was being sarcy, and myopically steering the conversation, like every other one I chose to derail, back to VR...

I've only really played one mobile game, which uncharacteristically for me is a golf game, which is odd, as I'm not a golfer IRL. But I swear, when I do play it, I put in as much time closing down the popups to buy gems, coins, level up bonus packs, powered up golf balls, next level access packs, declining discounted subscriptions with regular.... Oh frack off.

When I seen the ARX thing come in, I was concerned that the freemium route was where Elite is going. I'd still rather buy skins for cash, but at least there isn't anything pay to win like materials or engineering rolls purchasable with this new currency malarky.

I know, I know, but mobile pseudoVR does more harm than good, hence I didn't follow it  Seriously, mobile smartphone-based VR needs to die. Faculus Quest 2 all the way :)
When a flagship handset costs around a grand, plus another hundred or so for a decent quality phone-->VR thing, and a dedicated freestanding headset, that doesn't need a grands worth of laptop to power it, costs a couple of hundred bux, I'd say phone based VR is obsolete. All those conditions hold true today, so I'd think it's fair to say phone based VR's days have been and gone.

Of course, you'll always get some gonk spending $17.99 on a VR phone cradle on amabay or ebazon, much like you will get some pillock trying to rebuild an engine with a leatherman knockoff multi tool that is both their pliers AND screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench / shifting spanner (depending which side of the pond you are on) and one of those "universal" sliding pin socket catastrophes. Quarter of a century after their inception, those sliding pin sicket thingies are still doing the rounds, and sadly, I'd imagine twenty years hence, those phone-->VR doohikies will still be doing the rounds...

Anybody want to eat crow over the VR?
I don't think I understand what you're trying to say? The general complaint is that there is no real VR support in Odyssey, and that still stands unless there's something the rest of us aren't aware of?

Seems @epoch5 wasn't aware of the finer details of our 300 pages struggle... so TL; DR: FDEV said NO VR in Odyssey, we kicked up a stink, Frontier said Okay partial VR in Odyssey - ships/srvs but no VR on foot, flat 2d screen in VR aka grey burquah. And that's exactly what was delivered as it was throughout the alpha. The problem is, it sucks. It sucks a huge Richard, unless I'm mistaken and FDev miraculously delivered VR mode on foot, and if so, I will be purchasing Odyssey Deluxe if someone can prove it to me. But I know my monies are safe with me, as the 2d mode remained.

I tweaked some video setting adjusted some system settings and it is very playable. it tweaks once in a while and the VR it's almost as good as Horizon The VR on foot is not ou t yey and they never said it would be. What they did say was when they got the on foot stuff up to snuff they would add it.
