A potentially great game ruined by spite, incompetence and mediocre performance and poor AA

Steam is not the majority of the players. The platforms are split between Steam, Frontier, Playstation and XBox.
Nearly everyone who has already bought Odyssey will keep it. Of those who have refunded, most of those will buy it again at some point.

Game dev companies, do not care about Steam reviews.
And yet on the day of launch we heard the usual suspects pointing immediately to Odyssey being in the top global sales on steam...lol. If you’re a developer whose game is listed as mostly negative and heading for overwhelmingly negative on the biggest gaming platform in the world, YOU BETTER CARE!

The reason why NMS survived their fallout of their launch is because they put their foot to the pedal and kicked out patches like it was nobody's business. Not only that, but their large scale updates were not only impressive, but they were free. In the time it takes FDev to pop out one major update to ED, Hello Games could kick out five. This is most impressive for a studio that has less than 50 employees.

FDev needs to change their development cycle if they want to mirror anything that Hello Games has accomplished, and I just don't see that happening.

It's pretty clear they need better product management (and game design IMO). People always blame developers, but PM is who is responsible for steering the ship, stopping scope creep, etc.

Also, I fully expect every one of you who refund, to close your forum account as well and never show your faces in this community again.
Why? I might have a dislike for what FD have done with EDO but I'm still a paid up player of EDH.

Sorry that you dislike the negative feedback that FD have been getting... But tbh, after a 100+ coders have been working on EDO for a couple of years (covid issues accepted), to add a dlc on top of EDH (i.e. the base game was already in place, this was just an extension), and they have produced a meh FPS bolt on and some questionable graphic tech improvements. You have to wonder, what have they been doing during all that time?

Yeah, I mentioned earlier in the thread when I mention developer I mean it as "game developer" as in Fdev as a company. I don't think anyone is calling out specific developers here, and I'm definitely not.

It works for me so screw everybody else mentality.

No, my point was very clearly that the complaint went into great detail in the negative and then presented a comparison list of the positive at a very different level of detail.

That's just bad argumentation. Falacious reasoning should be called out and mocked and you getting your underwear bunched up while adding to the misrepresentation helps no one.

But by all means add tribalism to the fallacies. I'll be off having fun and reporting bugs as I see them.

What part of "2/3rd of the content I played was not working" you didn't understand ? I liked to shoot people and repair a base. That's the detailed one.
I did literally nothing else because everything else bugged.

I'm sorry if it's not to your liking.

Or perhaps you want a detailled step by step of my activities and a rating ?

But those are usually still people with some passion. I reckon the state of this project is due to shareholders, directors and upper management.

But the thing is, we can't really blame them. That's how business works. In the end, the ones responsible are the preorderers and the CMDRs who defend Frontier, a commercial business, as if it's their own innocent child.

Hey, you having fun isn't the problem. If you're fine and having fun, then more power to you. No one here is trying to take that away from you. No one here is responding to your posts and saying that you shouldn't have fun. I am rarely seeing that going on.

However, I am seeing a lot of people that think the game is fine and/or is having their own fun with it try to downplay those that aren't (and obviously have issues). Just because you don't have the same experiences as others in a game that's so buggy that anything is possible at this point, doesn't make it a fallacy. It just makes you lucky. Why you feel the need to call out and mock people about bugs/issues that you yourself can't prove or disapprove that could be broken is beyond me. This forum is a joke sometimes.

Lol, get more defensive that will surely gain you sympathy.

Here I'll show you

Ok, I did it already but :
BAD :
-Cockpit is way darker. Seems like I turned off the lights.
-UI in cockpit is way to dark, and hard to read. That's with gamma maxed.
-Radar in cockpit is ridiculously bright ?
-Overexposure for characters portrait. For people with dark hair, it's ok, you just have black hair now. For everyone else, you have white hair. The engineer pictures are all terrible because of that. Details, freckles and color are white washed. See here for more.
-My character inherited a stupid grin. So did my crew.
-Skybox is horrible. It's just white dot on a black canva. That's not how the sky look like, even from Earth with it's thick atmo. See here for more. Including my post with pictures if you live in a city and never saw a real night sky.
-Bookmark can't be set course directly. It's complicated now
-Galaxy map is way more complicated to use
-The entire new UI can be summed up as "everything takes a few more click and is less intuitive".
-We've lost the transition animation when changing ships. It wasn't the best thing in the world, but it was certainly better than a dark screen with a loading icon.

GOOD :
-I like that storage module are now organized.
-We have spacelegs, when it works (6missions 4 failed due to bugs).

You don't have a universal opinion. Neither do I.
Look at the trailer, the planet we have are different. There is even the leftover graphic option they use for the trailer (ULTRAFORCAPTURE). Sure, almost no computer can run with that option, but it makes everything closer to the trailers.

So while responding to someone who rightly said we have more working than we don't, you gave a detailed list of your problems, then glossed over all the things we got as "we have space legs"

There is a very clear misrepresentation of reality here. You are being extremely hyperbolic and now defensive.

If that level of criticism gives you a sad have some empathy for the devs who built an awesome, if buggy, thing and who are getting buried in petty complaints like yours calling their base competence into question from the high horse of zero working knowledge of their challenges.

As the person who you replied to said, there is a lot more good than bad, and the bad is getting rapidly patched out of existance.

Lol, maybe go back and reread exactly what I said. I haven't made light of anyone's problems or denied that there are issues.

Very specifically what I pointed out was the other guy claiming to give a balanced list of the good vs the bad having done so in an extremely hyperbolic way.

Yeah you're right. I added spaceleg because the idea was cool, even thought my experience was miserable, and I didn't want to sound too much like a whiner. I'll change the list to be more acccurate.

Better ? I mean, you're right, it's more truthful that way.

Its odd that for a game with a supposidly more mature demographic, there sure is alot of whining.

Yes EDO has release and yeah it has some issues, and someone who doesn't play the game (enough) was given the job of redesigning the UI , and there are some usability issues.

The new planetary tech looks pretty awesome, so frankly I'm grabbing an artemis suit and heading out into the black, while they sort out the problems with on-foot missions and performance.

Premature releases are unfortunately something that PC gamers have had to suffer for a long time, and I suspect will have to suffer in the future - people bandy around the phrase dumpster fire.

EDO is not that broken, certainly its no where as bad as Anthem or Cyberpunk2077; its all very fixable. Infact it this is kinda reminiscent of the Horizons launch.

Its only a game, meanwhile I think now is a good time to hike out to Hawkins Game and maybe visit Colonia and Sag A there has never been a prettier time to do that.

Thanks FDEV for all the new stellar forge - I never wanted space legs and certainly saw little demand for Call-Of-Duty in space.

You.. think that there's more good than bad in ED:O? Are you living under a rock or have you not scoured these forums, other forums, reddit, youtube, and reviews of the game? A game that releases with more good experiences than bad experiences does not end up with Fdev having to respond in these forums about the myriad of issues plaguing the majority of the game's base.

Oh, and that one user telling you that you're right, I think you missed his sarcasm. :)

Sigh Whining?

I can barely get in a few hours of play without disconnecting and not being able to reconnect. I am on console and using Horizons. It's so increasingly frustrating when people repeatedly call legitimate gripes about not being able to play a game that they paid for properly.. whining.
