Ships The Viper MKIV Owners Club.

If going with a C4 bi weave be sure to engineer your PD to charge enhanced and the shield to thermal resist low draw. Stack HRPs for when it falls and it should come back in around a minute.

I also would like to once again invite anyone interested to the Federal Viper Division. If you arent Federally aligned through powerplay you can still get a mercenary role. We do light PvP and just general Viper stuff.

I made my first kill this evening (despite having had the game for over a year :D) and it was in my Viper MkIV - which even given some light engineering, can be thrown around at surprising velocity in some unexpected directions :)

Thanks to previous posts in this thread, I knew the lateral thrust was good, but I didn’t realise just how good it was going to be! Lateral thrust plus judicious yaw is great for keeping out of the main line of sight of an npc. I’m glad I chose the MkIV as my first combat ship.

Got myself another Viper IV for my little 'mini fleet' and still love flying it.
It is quite simply one of, if not the, most practical agile ships to fly. The boost multiplier and profile is an absolute dream to fly under boost. it's a monster!

Still have a Viper MkIV. (actually have two).

One is now a corsair, with 32t of corrosion proof racking that has earned me a small fortune liberating hooky ltd and other items from various mining vessels.

The other got stripped out a bit, but is slowly being rebuilt back to use as a ship for general dodgy things on planets, after its retirement from its pvp glory days..

Here is my Community Goal Imperial corsair in used during recent goal in Parutis. Messerschmitt bf-110, there are many similarities between those two, that I couldn't name this ship any different. Hull 4000, cool running, medium short range rails, cytoscramblers. Took me a lot of materials to fully max those HRP's, but it was worthy, ship is tough as nails. Small ship with hull as strong as one of the big three. Destroyed about a dozen Lakon T-ships piloted by other commanders. Destroyed only once where a bounty hunter in fdl tagged me and overloaded my point defence by continuous fire from packhounds. Looking forward for the next CG.

Ps. I tried doing that sort of work in Viper mk3, dances like a ballerina with two blades, but generally too delicate. Mk4 can withstand solid beating and that should give you enough time to flee when things go dire

nice! do you have a corilois plan to share? :)

Notes:
Should you need more power - go with shielded power plant.
There are slight changes to resistances in military and reactive bulkheads. Military gives more thermal res. while reactive gives more kinetic and explosive. Up to you.
Other ideas for weapons... All gimballed frag. Cannons + force shells and railguns. Pack hounds + small rails. Rails + frags...
You can replicate this build with Diamondback Scout. Scout runs faster and cooler.

This thread is a bit old, so I hope I am not late to the party. Well, few days ago I was doing extensive research on what ship to pick after my return to ED.
I have picked the Viper MK IV and truth is, I fell in love. She never let me down while bounty hunting, be it in the black, planet surface or on foot.
I also just got into Engineeres, so she is the first oneI have ever engineered. It makes her very special to me.

Current build multipurpose combat oriented build I run Bloodhound and below a picture of her.
Once I feel satisfied and get my hands on Pack Hound missiles, I will most probably retrofit her for combat missions only.

It's an incredibly versatile ship, OP. Congrats.
It's never too late to own a Viper IV

P.S.
Do yourself a favor someday and put some G5 Dirty Drives and a G5 Armored Plant on it. Also change that distributor to Charge Enhanced.
Also, change your shield to thermal resistant and consider swapping out the shield booster with a chaff launcher.

Thank you. Yes I am shocked how much i can do with the Viper when stock. Each upgrade makes her even better, and i love it.

Thanks for the advice. Truth is i was wondering what i should upgrade. I only started unlocking engineering, but i was thinking about those things you mentioned aswell.

It really is one of the best ships in the game. As far as small ships go, the Viper IV is my workhorse.

I believe you, it immedietly appealed to me. Quite the underdog, not sure why people hated it. I prefer the Viper IV over the Cobra MK3. Because it boiled down to choosing one of those two. The Viper won because it was more sturdy and I like having extra HP. The speed and agility aspect was a nice bonus.

People dump on the V4 simply because of it's lower top speed compared to the Cobra III for example, it rotates a tad slower as well.

However what the stats don't tell you is the boost multiplier is where the vipers get their secret special move from, it's crazy agile on boost and the only a cobra iii can do to a V4 is basically run away in a straight line which is not that easy when the V4 accelerates so fast! :)

Is it just me or is something about the maneuverability messed up lately? Like, I can barely stop the thrusters from moving me all beyond where I intended to be. And having a lot of slalom aproaches when aiming for landing pads.
I still love the Viper 4, but it seems like we are having a hard time the last couple of days.

People hate it because people would rather just take someone's word for it than trying it out themselves. I can totally picture some 16 year old proclaiming how much it sucks with complete authority and confidence without actually having used it.

There's actually a pretty good chance that happened earlier in this thread.

I dunno. Seemed OK to me when I was running my VIV. Been about a week though.

There have been some talk about something changing in the flight model outside of the obvious bugs around stations and jumping in FA-off...

It's really hard to pin down other than just a 'feeling' that something is off as it just doesn't feel right...
