Elite Dangerous Community Schedule W/C 24 May 2021

Please don't do the typical PR move which is to downplay the issues to some server issues and a little needed polish. It's a major launch fail with a half baked product missing central features which was rushed out to meet quarterly bonuses and inflate stock prices.

I'd prefer honesty and transparency and to speak to us as if we're not idiots (many of us are fellow game developers) and that'd go a long way in earning our trust back slowly over time. Everyone screws up in life, not everyone admits to it and owns it.
honestly I am sick of the coverups that Fdev do - just be honest with your paying customers, without which your shareholders will dump you like garbage

We'll be diving into all the exciting things Commanders have been doing since launch.
Dear developer, are you f..ing out of your mind? Is the word "exciting" really in place to use it?

I know, the game as big as this to be developed in relatively small team, it's a massive undertaking. But at least don't be a p..sy and admit you f..ed up. People (me included) love your product, people would like to fly, do things. Trust your fans, trust your customers.

But just don't make stupid cattle of us with words like "exciting" and "plenty of to do." You know that's not right, that's not true, that's even a lie. But just have balls to admit you did it, you rushed it. People and developers, who actually work on the game, will feel better.

I don't mind about later relaease, I don't mind about bugs, it's expected, Elite is so big, so massive, I am even wondering how's possible it even works. But for the love of some god or whatever, don't make a fool of us. It's offensive to us, your fanbase, and it's disgusting. At least own your mistakes.

Thank you. We love you!

Wednesday

Stellar Screenshots: Stellar Screenshots has the potential to be special this week! For the first time, the galaxy is opened up for Commanders to explore on foot, so we're expecting some amazing images!
What, screenshots of all the various disconnects? Screenshots of empty storage lockers and empty data terminals after the server forcibly disconnects us? Screenshots of the Steam "mostly negative" rating on ED:O? Screenshots of the "wing signal" 100m away, of your friend in your team and PG, who the server has not placed in your instance? Screenshots of the bizarre and astronomical engineering costs of gear?

Tuesday

Supercruise News #34: It's our first Supercruise News post Odyssey launch! We'll be diving into all the exciting things Commanders have been doing since launch.
This sounds ridiculous and pre-arranged with the hope that Odyssey wouldn't be broken after release. You really should cancel these fluff streams until "exciting" actually works for people.

With current broken lighting and downgraded planet tech, I would expect a flood of visual bugs instead.
Thursday

Odyssey Missions: We're heading into Elite Dangerous: Odyssey to get started with some on-foot missions, and see what trouble we can get into!
Try team missions on "release build". That is the real "trouble".
Friday

Commander Creations: We're excited to continue the #CommanderCreations initiative after more amazing entries! Please keep them coming using the hashtag on Twitter!
Fluff.
You should've skipped this and post a development diary for bug fixes on Friday instead.
Elite Dangerous is being "bashed hard" in reviews and by players with a mostly negative rating for the first time in many years, I honestly don't believe any of us have the temper or mood to watch these fluff shows while expecting "serious" solutions for pressing problems.

As someone who did work in the gaming industry previously I can tell you, that it will take time to create a Roadmap especially when it comes to bugs or tuning of game mechanics. Without going into Detail, many different departments need to work together to figure things out and that will take time.

My best guess is, that we will have something that resembles a Roadmap either end of this week or next week. Probably more like end of next week.
My best guess is - no Roadmap as usual :) The problem with Roadmaps is .. they change - and you can see at the moment how badly some people around here handle change :)

What we'll get is the usual:

  • Patch
  • <Radio Silence>
  • Patch
  • <Radio Silence>

At some point the silence will continue for weeks, and people will realise that is it.

It's been less than a week since launch, some around here need to have a bit more patience (and fdev need to get on with addressing the bugs), but I doubt we will get a Roadmap, and if we do I doubt it will do fdev any good.

Dear developer,

Dear Customer,

Please understand the difference between a CM who is told what to say by his CTL and a Dev who appears on Stream occasionally and actually answered the questions about bugs instead of just ignoring them.

CMs do the hype
Devs do the coding and answer some of the bug questions giving insight into how they work on them
CEO does the apologising for it all

I hope you are right. If a Roadmap is actually presented to the Elite Dangerous Community, it would do a lot for morale on both sides of the fence, that is Devs and Users. Pragmatic and viable Roadmaps are undoubtedly not easy to assemble and create. Presenting a Roadmap to the Community is also a respectful gesture. What I found to be very painful about Odyssey was the lack of respect of our intelligence and time.

And once again, most of Frontier are NOT to blame. The Community Managers do the best they can. It's the upper management, who shamefully use the Community Managers as meat shields to take the ire of the community. Well this community is too sophisticated for that.

[EDIT: I don't know anyone who works for Frontier. I live in the US.]
The most difficult part of creating the roadmap in my past experience was finding the problems and quantify it through data. Angry forum threats don't help in finding underlying issues, since most of the players only convey their feelings of something and not the issue itself.
So someone has to dig through it, talk to the technicians and coding teams of said game mechanic and look at the design concept.
Was the design flawed? Was it correctly implemented? Meeting after meeting, talk talk talk is taking up most of the time. ;)

I'm tired of this cheap corporate speak, I'm tired of FDev acting like this is no big issue. The game barely works but nah, they act like everything is okay, like this is nothing.

wrong... I red and made contrubitons to many threads talking about the problems... many tickets I voted for those problems... yet there is no response from fdev... so people get angry and u just talking about those angry posts...

If my house is burning Id realise whats actually important and know that the Fire Brigade will be along at some point and probably cant teleport there immediately.
firsr off, I am not talking about your house here... that post was for F.D. second off, do u have a barbecu party while waiting fire brigade..!? if u didnt get the post, dont quote it... it may be hard to understand my posts because english is not my natural language... I can understand that...
