Say goodbye to Anarchies

well, they won't dry up, but it will suck
funny thing about anarchies, they never complain and they never ask for credits for donations.
and the harder you kill them the harder they fight back and pop back.
and you do Not want to owe them money..its the one thing they really hate.

The government type in Elite for anarchy has nothing to do with anarchist politics. It just means the faction doesn't care about galactic rules and as long as you don't shoot one of their own you can do whatever you want, if you do shoot one of their own they'll shoot you for it but not care outside that. Generally anarchy factions are mafia/criminal, but not always.

Frontier seems to not understand how anarchies are meant to work seeing as they don't follow any of their own rules in Odyssey and just perform like any other faction around settlements and any Odyssey introduced C&P - with the added bonus that every mission and faction wants to them.

Thanks Frontier, for making it even harder to maintain the already hardest faction out there. Unsurprisingly, San Tu is getting thrown down the well by this change as well. Added bonus that apparently surface CZs don't count towards war efforts, so I've basically wasted the last two days of fighting thinking Odyssey content was actually relevant to doing anything productive.
Hmm mobocracies should need their own government type. I mean those CAN be very strict about crimes done in their turf. Irl story here: Friend of mine did little trip to Russia in 1990's, and at time mob/mafia style stuff was very strong there. In fact so strong that their travel agent had some kind of protection deal with local mob. Ok, some small time criminal stole purse of my friends wife at city market. My friend told about incident to travel guide, and asked if he and wife should report thievery to local militia station (Russian police was at that time still militia). Guide said: "No, I will contact Ivan about this". Well Ivan was contacted. Some hours later purse and what was in there were returned to owner. I don't know what happened to thief, but I think nothing pleasant likely. Those guys took their protection business seriously.

That's why I like anarchies more than other factions - they never have donations. They can generate all money by force (piracy) or smuggling. Shame that their fines don't have further consequences like sending some thugs for 'their debt'.

This is what Riedquat should have been since the launch of the game.

It even fits the lore description from FE2!

Said it before and happy to say it again. Riedquat should be an absolute hell-hole, even if its a one-off BGS protected or something, you should not go there without preparation and you should get battered....and Tionisla should have a visual graveyard but thats a different matter.

Yep, first video I see on engineers is of course DTA

typo? Did you mean DTEA / D2EA or is there yet another one who has farming relog gameplay avoidance videos? Theres so many but people watch them then complain theres not gameplay. o_O

Imho, all permit-required systems should have some special protection too. Van Maanen's Star is supposed to be a religious cult enclave for example, but it's been BGS'ed into oblivion due to being too central and having a white dwarf.

take a look at my home system, you will see they are very happy there and they own a lot of stuff.

yes, it would be nice to work with them in a tighter knit relationship where fines turn into a hunt for the money...
currently the best I get is a lot of assassins sent after me for killing them so much...10k bounty on those s....a lotta effort for 10k

that's what you are talking about , the bounty farmers...and material farming?
yes, penalty of sorts would be better
contrary to popular belief, killing anarchy faction ships doe NOT make them happy, criminal or not a criminal, anarchy factions are just npc's too.
and sadly their abilities/traits are misread everywhere.
I like mine so much I honestly wanted to share them and spread them around a heck of a lot more than I did.
where I go, they go too.
and I wish it didn't take me 2 years of killing them to realize how important to my economy they actually are.

2 things I see everywhere that destroy economy
1, local anarchy factions squished to under 1% - just not nice, makes it easy to boost them, so actually a dangerous place to leave them if you don't like them.
2, systems with pmf owning all stations - destroys competiveness

not really related to the issues, just an observation. that does relate to efficient BGS and better economy

Well, if anarchies are about to be crushed underfoot by empires and developers alike, what's a fun-loving anarchist to do?

BURN IT ALL.
or...collect the big bounties you need, and start spreading your fav anarchists around.

sorry to repeat, but my main reason for being here this time was to answer what I saw as needing help, to collect bounty vouchers FOR anarchy factions, in anarchy systems..
so the current bug or whatever it is aside that's allowing people to get these bounties, is not a bug when done in horizons they way I have been doing it for several years.
If any of these large anarchy empires were built without that, ouch is all I can say, that's a lot of work without assistance of bounty vouchers that are actually pretty easy to get.

but then what do I know, I killed skimmers and I killed pirates and many of us did, and at first we thought it was as intended...not our fault it took fdev 4 years to notice.

So, don't let them be crushed any more.

I know I type too much
I wanted to add a thing I also do which helps keep my rep intact, when its not anarchy factions or even if its is them I have to kill, I do it in a haz res if I cannot do it in my anarchy system..
unlike extraction sites and compromised nav beacons, haz res kills do not affect your rep with the factions you are killing.

I know most if not all of you guys do know this. but many others don't know this.

There have been a lot of suggestions as to the causes in the thread but only Frontier will know for sure what is happening behind the scenes and how INF is being doled out for settlement-based activity and feetperson kills.

I'd argue it's extremely easy to see that something is amiss, at this point anything we say is an educated guess at best.
I'm not disagreeing with you, Having weighed in on a few anarchic restitution campaigns, such as reinstating the Dragons of San Tu to their rightful place, etc, and playing BGS in general, I know how disadvantaged anarchies are. However, I'm not knowledgeable enough of games design to confidently make accurate and effective suggestions. However, were I pressed for suggestions to effectively balance anarchy factions I'd suggest:
  • Make Anarchy factions issue bounties on other NPC's ships, lore would be these aren't criminality / justice related, but more along the lines of an "open assassination order"
    • Those could be rolled into anarchy specific massacre missions
  • Make Anarchy factions immune to the negative effects of bounties being collected on their ships
    • although the issuing faction would still receive an influence uplift in the system where those bounties are handed in, it wouldn't be the zero sum that it currently is
  • Make Anarchy systems ALWAYS have at least one black market, but make transactions selling stolen / illegal (?) goods to the black market exert a positive influence on the controling anarchy faction - read that as the liberty of dealing in such an unregulated manner bolsters support for the extremely liberal / non existant anarchists governance
  • Make every anarchy faction export fairly unique commodities, which while not necessarily illegal in other systems, selling these commodities to a station would exert a negative influence on them.
    • Lets say its moonshine liquor - this commodity is not illegal, but its presence causes more drunken disorderly conduct amongst the citizens of starports where it is sold to & ergo available for public consumption, and the uptick in criminality undermines the happiness/security of the ruling parties
    • This commodity's exclusive production in anarchy systems, along with its detrimental effect upon non anarchy factions would give anarchists a means to oppose non anarchy factions without picking up notoriety
  • BRING BACK SMUGGLING!!!
    • Bringing back smuggling / or making it "great again" would mean anarchy systems / factions could spawn smuggling missions, the completion of which would erode the destination stations controlling factions security / happiness / influence as well as increasing the influence of the anarchy faction in the system from which the mission originated
  • Make murdering clean ships of non anarchy factions within an anarchy system not incur any bounties / reputation changes, meaning anarchist players could "mow the grass" with seeming impunity.

Imho, all permit-required systems should have some special protection too. Van Maanen's Star is supposed to be a religious cult enclave for example, but it's been BGS'ed into oblivion due to being too central and having a white dwarf.
they have since some year(s). but van mannen's star was flipped previously to that.

ok. I'm a bit confused by that.
I don't see anything on that list that isn't already in the game and functioning.
but
Make Anarchy factions issue bounties on other NPC's ships, lore would be these aren't criminality / justice related, but more along the lines of an "open assassination order", this they already do, not usually as a mission, but they do this.
negative effect against bounties being collected against them, works if you take it to a haz res if available..sadly this part is kinda normal for all factions getting killed even when they are wanted, haz res removes that, but I get it, its not enough.
a specific commodity seems useful, but traceable.
the rest is there, you have to look, but you will find it.
the BM works as far as I am concerned, and quite well.
If you know of an anarchy system with no BM, its possible fdev might want to know, it might not be right..does not seem right, I have not yet seen an anarchy station without a bm. even outposts with no market and still have a bm, and magically also export things that cause damage to those who are not them.

That bit I only previously dm'd someone here.
I personally am having a hard time in empire space finding any station with anarchy faction that does not smuggle something bad out, slaves, narcotics, tobacco.
In all my anarchy stations, I only have 1 that does not smuggle any of these goods., even empire system with all empire stations controlled and the local blues are exporting slaves that are not even in the market..
Then there are passenger missions, especially from anarchy system, many missions sending all kinds of bad passengers to system around, often in my area, to the nearest problem system.
There is a chart available that shows all the detrimental passenger missions and the effects the have. these work very well.

If you don't agree with me, or don't get what I mean about some of these, let me know, I have put my best answers here for all of this.
And it has been working very nicely for a very long time, with me having to experiment every time something fails, so I can quickly see why, and what works now.

a couple weeks back I had a couple new guys helping me, as they wanted to pay me back for helping them.
so they earned several hundred mil. mostly hauling cargo, and the illegal cargo was silver at 26-27mil from the bm, every t-9 or cutter load. in this case stolen cargo from a couple missions to deliver elsewhere.
I paid the fine, they earned the credits hauling to the bm and my faction loved it. and the faction I stole the cargo from suffered a tiny bit as well as the faction the silver was supposed to go to. my response to all that is, you are in my system and it is not ok to ship my silver to my enemies, so, heres the fine payment, thanks for the silver.

This is the method I choose to use as it works really well. it is not for making money, it is for making inf. and it works.

in another post here, I have explained more about trade, and why it is not always working in a bm when one thinks it should.
There is a lot to learn about trade. and I only give some of my most important details on what I know works and why it works.

disagree all you like, but time is better spent learning more about the market and why it is important to sell the correct items to the correct places.
Prove me wrong and something is still learned.
I have no reason to mess with anyone that has visited this thread tonight.

And I have to add, who has shown any of you how to deal with anarchy factions? its not written anywhere, cept a very few near useless tidbits in a couple of very old BGS documents.
And what I have said here about negative and toxic trade were skipped over soo fast in released videos by frontier, that if you aren't stopping at every frame and watching and listening real close, you miss it entirely. Its like the key to the BGS trade are whispers and faces away...nmnmnmmm...o, moving on...
I did that just to see if that what they were talking about and it was. I already knew and had been using both toxic and negative trade right from the start.
all because biowaste has different effects in different places and at different prices...that was extremely confusing and so much testing to figure it out. then it all became clear. it a very well done job on soo many of the commodities we have. radiation, various forms of toxicity and more...then the price changes..a lot to learn for anyone that has never read any of this before now.
