Thanks guys. Now I know whats going on, it isn't actually that hard to avoid. When I made my earlier post I never even saw the escape vector!

I find myself going "Oooooh! Look at all the lights and commanders and ... Damn! Overshot my target again!". I think I need to pay less attention to the scanner. :)

But as a mechanic, that means it's doing what the Devs intend: taking any tedium out of supercruise.

I disagree. I feel it's making the tedium more protracted.

Not saying there shouldn't be interdictions, but I do tend to find them just another kind of yawn.

I really isn't hard to avoid most interdictions if you are attentive.

Hard no, annoying, yes.

It's generally faster to not avoid them. Just get interdicted and frameshift again. Hell, get interdicted and kill the authorities...still faster and than going out of the way to avoid the interdiction.

There are three types that annoy me:
1). The ones that get you right as you exit hyperspace when there is very little you can do to avoid it.
2). Authority stop and scans in certain systems like Aulin where they are WAY too aggressive about it.
3). Non-authority stop and scans. I have restrained my trigger finger on these so far, but that's not going to last. Every time I let my guard down and one of these gets me, the urge to blow them out of space gets stronger.

Actual pirate interdictions are fun., and the authorities only bother me when they are way overaggressive.

Are you one of those maniacs that fly into a space station 300 m/s on silent running with engines off and every time nearly kill a family of four on the station entrance? :D Hehehe...

Sorry, thats probably me with a load of smuggled goods trying not to get scanned by the damn police vipers....

Thus far interdictions have been initiated against me by authorities at least 60 times (I've evaded all but four or five), NPC pirates twice (evaded 1), and other CMDRs never.

Authorities try to interdict me about 2-3 times per (high security) system I visit.

I'm happily (super)cruising along in my new Viper, heading for a port in I Bootis to get some new stuff, when I get NPC 'dicted. It's another Viper, and I'm on a factory-fresh Viper with the standard options fitted, so only 2 pulse lasers. So I'm playing the throttle / rudder / thruster dance with this guy to try and stay behind and slowly chew away at his shields. I get his shields offline, and his hull down to under 50% when the space cops show up. They scan me, and I'm instantly a wanted criminal, even though I am only defending myself from being 'dicted. Three on one isn't a fair fight, so I divert power to engines and sod off in a straight line after-burning as much as I can before getting back into cruise.

I dock up at the station, and I've got a 6000 quid bounty to pay plus some other fines.

Is this normal? Surely the space cops should've gone after the other guy? Bug perhaps?

When you were interdicted - did the other pilot have a bounty (were they wanted). As if not, you need to let them shoot first (then they get a bounty/wanted). Otherwise if you fire first at a "clean" vessel, you get the bounty! Hence the system authority vessels attacking you - as they saw you as the criminal.

No, I've been experiencing this myself, especially in USSs. I'd enter them and I'd attack a wanted criminal and the authorities would show up and attack me. Beta 2 got rid of that wanted target bug, but it seems to have returned in beta 3 :(

He went red on my scanner before I shot at him. Does an interdiction automatically turn them red on the radar or do they have to actually shoot at me?

I ask this because once I got my dogfighting face on, he couldn't get a shot on me, and I stayed on his tail.

They go red on your scanner if they are weapons hot.. but they don't get a bounty unless they actually hit you.
Without knowing if he hit you I couldn't say if it was a bug or not, as Hermit said above, there are a few bugs around that affect system authority response, might be one of those.

Thanks pal, I'll keep an eye out for the dastardly swines, and make sure they get a bounty up in future. I've been interdicted pretty much on every run between places.

Interdiction questions

Hello,

I have a few questions in regards to interdiction.

1. Does this happen in solo play?
2. Other than head for the blue escape vector, is there any other helpful advice on how to successfully escape an interdiction?
3. Can I buy equipment for my ship that prevents or minimizes an interdiction?

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes
2. No but if you think you're going to lose anyway it might be worth throttling down to submit to it and skip the damage that is caused by dropping out against your will
3. No

Interdiction collision

Three times in a row when I come out super cruise during interdiction I collide with the other ship.

Does anyone have the same experience?

Yes, and may lead to an insta-death if you pull out big ships. I've managed to avoid some by setting the thusters to zero before coming out supercruise.

Happens to half the authority ships that interdict me. I usually take advantage of the free damage to their shields by laying into them at point blank range with everything I've got. s.

The first few times it happened were especially annoying as I was flying around shieldless and hadn't learned the interdiction very well yet. Skidded off the bottom of an Anaconda, then was interdicted again minutes later, and smacked directly into the rear of a Viper. Limped to the nearest station with 22% hull left. Probably would have died if I didn't just upgrade my bulkheads.

For me (a wannabee pirate) it happens most of the time but i dont think the shield damage is much,....even against big ships.

What i find works well is as soon as you come out of warp hit reverse and activate the guns, you shove them pretty hard and come to a dead stop if you aim at their middle - this then gives you 3/4 seconds of prime 'pirate time' before they can react.

I killed a type 6 like this in about 5 seconds of fire. was pretty suprising as i wanted him to get all scared and drop cargo hahaha.
