Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Better seeing it from 8:30 if you have some time to watch this video.
Good visuals do not make a good game. Good gameplay is what makes a good game. Solid backed infrastructure that is capable of supporting said gameplay is what makes a good game. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate good looking games when I see them. It's just good visuals meaningless these days.

It's very easy to make a game pretty these days. Heck, Empyrion: Galactic Survival, a game made by two people, managed to do something visually identical to Star Citizen's ocean moment, primarily because the technology is baked into most commercial game engines these days, so such visuals are essentially "free." I play EGS because the game play is that good. From its procedural generation that encourages exploration, to its survival game mechanics, to its ship and base building mechanics, to the very fact that the in-game environments vary enough that I need to tailor my environmental suits to suit conditions, including things like high-g environments.

Also, are you incapable of posting your own content? Video recording is native to Windows. I want to see how you experience the game, not highly curated and potentially edited content that may not reflect most users actual experience. I'm going to have to wait for the next free-fly event before I can see what this game is actually like, but live gameplay video can tell a lot about a game.

I just talk about sitting because you cannot sit in a lot of MMO. You even have a lot of MMO where there is no collision between characters.

At first, I genuinely wondered why you seem trigered by this feature and afterthat I remembered that ED have benches on which you cannot sit...
It was not directed against ED. ED have some nice features like cutting metal plate that SC doesn't have yet.

Ok, so let's go with your assertion that you can't sit in a lot of MMOs (which MMOs don't have sitting!!!? Well, except those with no need for sitting, like EvE), its still hardly something that needs to be even listed. I mean, its just an animation. Its not rocket science. I have almost zero skills with 3D modelling, but even i've animated a human model into different positions using a skeleton. I taught myself by watching one youtube video in order to help my son understand how to do animations when he was learning.

Personally, I hope I never lose my sense of wonder while playing a video game. The first time I saw the sun reflected off the ocean, near sunset, in Empyrion: Galactic Survival, was definitely a "wow" moment... and it remains a moment worth savoring if I'm not doing anything time critical at the moment. Heck, I still have those moments while playing Kerbal Space Program.

And having come from an era where there were only four colors available to you in games, the moment we got a wide pallet to play with was definitely amazing. ;)

Maybe i'm just old and crusty. ;)

Me seeing that:

"Oh, nice. Anyway what was i doing here? Oh yeah, fetching a box."

To be fair to SC though, that's the sort of landscapes i want from ED when they eventually get round to making atmospheric planets (if it ever happens). However, the texture/planetary generation update for Odyssey was not encouraging.

Seems like there is sub-earth gravity on the moons:

Apparently if you use ye olde Cryengine console command 'pl_showstatus' the g-force metric given will reflect local gravity.
Thanks for that… though it does demonstrate how I came to this misperception. The player looks like they’re running on a normal-g world, as does the height of their jump. I’ve played games where this is modeled correctly. I’ve also played games (yes, plural) where the suit’s designed compensate for lower gravity, allowing players to have more natural movement on the ground, while still being able to take advantage of low gravity once you jump.

Like the mission I described where I have to climb in a derelict with hostile NPC I have to shoot to get a box to deliver in a station ?
Revolutionary. This is why it is going to be continuing for years. Natural selection among players will select for people who are fine with nice screenshots, space ship collectibles and fetch quests in a large arena game. Past promises are no longer important because new generations of paying customers are going to care only about the present. The longer it goes, the more likely it is CIG will be able to say "screw more star systems and complex background simulations, our player base does not care about these anymore, we need more ships BTW".

It is like with the CryTek lawsuit. Be so misleading and incompetent that you can push through and survive because you didn't deliver but had enough money to wait it out.

I should have precised, sitting on a the chairs/benches

I will try, I've found a tuto and made a first test. I want to hide my name on the mobiglass, which free software can I use ?

Nobody ask for a revolutionnary gameplay. We ask to reunite a maximum of gameplays in one unique space game.
Why do you think some long term ED players switch to SC atm ? They want ship interiors, FDEV said no so they go where they can find ship interiors. The fact that SC is beautiful is a big plus, but not the main reason of the switch. It's also natural selection for them ? If they are stupid to go to SC now, they were probably also stupid long before, you don't fall in stupidity in one day... So they were also stupid playing ED before ? Explain me, I struggle to understand your point of view...

I'm going to have to call horse hockey on this claim. From what I've seen on SC videos, and even analyzed on one occasion, every environment in SC, outside of a freefall one, seems to have Earth standard gravity. There are plenty of games out there that do have such non-standard gravity, so it's easy to identify their effects should look like these days.
Well, you can easily tell if you look at the crate on the bed and if it falls down or floats which gravity environment you have.
