State of the Game

Dunno how it works in old Blighty, but over here if you want the good stuff, all you have to do is to find a hole-in-the-wall restaurant run by a couple of people from the old country.

Just stay away from the chain restaurants.
What I find funny is people now getting angry about others taking ideas from other cultures and using them in new ways. Its the very reverse of how thriving cultures work, by denying 'purity' of who can do it or what they use.

As an aside, shouldn't the show be called 'Dr Who?'

This has long* troubled my inner pedant!

* well.... for nearly 2.6 seconds...

Not to mention: What could possibly be MORE tolerant than discovering something from another culture, deciding that it's better than what you have, and then adopting it?

Isn't that how most of the English language came about?

..."Irony" does NOT mean "kinda like iron".
Ok. True story time.

Working for a <very very big investment bank> we routinely had people in from all round the world working with us, and one day, one of our esteemed American colleagues arrived in a shirt that can only be described as 'just out of the tumble drier'. My colleague Jim looked up, tutted and in his wry Scottish accent said, 'oh so it is true that Americans don't do irony'. Worked then stopped for the day as we carried him around, shoulder-high, though all our offices, chanting his name.

(Okay that last little bit may not be 100% true.)

Pretty much. Its also quite alarming in a world thats getting smaller and more global you have people marching about saying "you can't wear / do that" *

*within reason, obviously.

Extremes are always unhealthy, no matter what or whom. Nothing new. People bottom tight about others "appropriating someone culture" are the same kind than the one being scared their culture is going to disappear because people are adopting other people's culture.
