re: Statement on Harassment

It's just so ambiguous though!

On one hand, I'm expected to be a decent person, state my negative feedback politely, be considerate for others, feel free to argue but do it respectfully and so generally be a decent human being and on the other hand I'm expected to not target someone personally and abuse them, harrass them or attack them directly or wish them or their families harm. How can I tell the difference???

Yes, sorry... very sarcastic. Sorry!
The best way is to do some Google stalking and find out where they live, then explain to their face what you are planning to write in the forum. If they call the police or punch you in the face, don't post it.

There, a simple solution which works for everyone.

Bonus points if you join them and their families for a walk on park day after some surveillance to discuss the finer points of grade 4 raw material drop rates. Then they will appreciate your passion and stamina for debate.

I am amazed so many people reach adulthood without learning the difference between criticising an object and criticising the people who created it.

That said, I think this sort of thing is a major problem which ends in bans. Frankly, a lot of people are staggeringly unaware of just how rude, unpleasant and unconstructive the way they communicate is. In much the same way, communication involves a great deal of misunderstanding, and it's depressing just how few people stop to consider that the reason someone misunderstood them might have been that they failed to express themselves clearly in the first place.

I'm sure it wont, but I felt nervous even asking the question, I value my good relationship with Frontier and the CMs but we can't have the forums become a place where people are afraid to ask questions either.
It's already difficult thanks to the white knights that would be happy if FD released Pac man as the bolt on legs component of ED.

Funny when fingers are pointed with the words: white knight.
Can be quite insulting though, when you look at in which groups they call themselves for white knights. ;)

All that is going to happen from now on is that the white knights are going to flag posts that they don't like to the moderators in hope of banning dissent. Eventually the forums will be very quiet places where everyone agrees with each other and have nothing interesting to say and FD will have the blessing of the 'community, ' to release poor quality products that tank the share price even lower.

You know, I haven't seen very many, if any, people here defending every decision FDev have made in the release of Odyssey, or pretending that there aren't a tonne of issues to fix and content gaps to fill. If anything, it's expressing a positive opinion towards one or more aspects of the game that is likely to provoke a negative reaction.

Hyperbole and emotive labels like "white knight" really don't advance the conversation at all.

When we are in a thread talking about being polite, going around calling people "white knights" is a bad start. It's an attack on other people.

does that get me a ban? How very liberal, freedom of speech etc, I have the right to be critical in this case of an element of the community that do more harm than good by getting in the way of honest feedback that FD presumably values.

if you only have the freedom to be inoffensive that's not a freedom worth having.

I hardly ever use these forums and certainly don't recall receiving any email or otherwise informing me about the change that allow your moderation team to instantly ban individuals whom are deemed by those moderators to cross the snowflake line. Since one would lose access to the forums, how would one go about appealing after such as an incident?
You should email community@frontier.co.uk and appeal the ban. Honestly though, if you're smart enough to tell the difference between critique and abuse/harassment (and use the former, not the latter!) you'll be fine.

Must be fun being a mod 🙄
You have no idea! We get to ban people now!
(But BH still can keep their stuphs :( )

Obviously, except TJ though.
TJ is like a Get Out of Jail Free card on these forums :D

Well, sort of.

you must be looking at the wrong website.

I agree with the statement in full. Everyone should be nice. But there is one element I'd like to raise if you will.

So when a spokesman for a company issues a statement that conflicts with a previous statement that said company has issued?

Now if the above occurs. Expect blowback. That is the nature of working in PR.

Lets proffer an example.

Company issues a statement to say that a product will have certain features. Those features are not implemented. In the name of transparency, a company spokesman has a Q&A, instead of answers the best that is given is a series of non answers.

What does the company and those who speak on behalf of the company expect is going to happen?

Not to receive personal abuse.

Which you agree with. Why are you asking this question?
Because I'm trying to provide feedback as to why this occurred.

Nobody expects software or any product for that matter to work or be 100% as intended. If anyone does they are the reason why they have warning labels on chainsaws. What people do want however is meaningful communication about the issues.
