Taking a break until EDO is fixed.

We’ll be asking for the Kickstarter monies back soon. Is it true that games dont ‘actually’ belong to you anyway. Isn’t it a licence ??

What makes you think people haven't already tried? Odyssey is far from Frontier's first episode with this game. And yes, it's just a license. That's pretty much every game these days.

We need space sharks in Elite <grin>

Laser sharks ?

Ghost sharks

Nice shark.

Pretty shark.

;)

...To be fair as well I think FD are working as hard as they can to get things ironed out, its just a shame that all this was not before and not after.

Sadly though it still shows no clear idea of what ED 'is'. ED has gone through four phases of teams / leadership (Brookes, Sandro, Chaos Period and Now™) and as time has gone on ED has slowly come apart, and ignored its own lore / internal consistency...
Yup. <Thinks twice, shrugs and decides for a full-on hullabloo....>

Thinking now about NMS, and how the quality and regularity of their free updates puts many (most?) other games companies to shame. Whatever you feel about the art style of NMS or its launch, I think it's impossible to deny that HG have taken the game a very long way since inception, and are seemingly still devoted to it. They seem energetic and very clear about the sort of game they want to make, and in the process have smashed the ball completely out of the park, and over into the next park.

Whilst I loved Horizons the subsequent 'miopia' around ED continues to baffle/surprise me and it feels that there is no coherent overarching vision, design or plan - odd as I can't believe this is the case. However, there seem to have been too many blind-alley diversions - CQC being prime here, but there are others (multicrew, powerplay... ymmv...) - and it just feels as if FDev doesn't quite know what it wants ED to be.

Perhaps its time for a sit down in the garden, with a nice cup or glass of whatever works and a blank sheet of paper with a question at its top. What experience does ED want to give its players, and how?

Just compare ED's 'fleet carriers' to those in NMS. It's night and day! NMS always seems to want to be a game to be enjoyed, to have actual fun in. For play.

The decision to go for space-legs never made much sense to me. Sorry, but what I think of as Elite's core gameplay is a Commander all alone in a tin-can, exploring the infinity of endless space. Give me a remotely controlled drone to explore (mine and rescue) derelicts and I'll be delighted. (Better yet, borrow wholesale from NMS and give us some procedural 'bouncing pinapples' and I'll be doubly delighted, particularly if you can Blam! them from the SRV.)

I have enjoy ED over the years a lot. But no game lasts forever, so for me it remains shelved (with my LEP) until some fresh content comes along that I fancy. Oh and a new couple of ships and SRV, along with hula-boy/girl bobbleheads too - ta v much.

NMS knows what it wants to be- it has a direction and a vibe to it.

What does ED want to be? FD need to find out fast and be brave enough to act.

I can demand to be treated like a paying customer as is Drew. And discarding our opinions and ratings of a product we've paid for to the bottom of the bin is not being treated like a paying customer... is it?
"I can demand to be treated like a paying customer as is Drew"
Fine. You paid. You got your copy of the game.

As a "paying customer" that's as far as the contract goes, unless puchase laws are very different in your neighbourhood.

Your opinions are not being discarded. They are being collated along with everyone else's opinions and are informing FD's internal discussions.
That your specific opinion hasn't been acted on to your satisfaction is something that life teaches everyone eventually is something we all have to learn to live with.

These forums are available to anyone, whether they have bought a copy of one of Frontiers games or not. Buying a game does not give you extra or special priviledges on these forums. You can express your opinion whether you paid for a game or not, you don't have special rights.

But now its hit the share price, which really ups the ante- and on Brabens reason and calling card.

The price fall is probably more to do with certain brokers predicting that Frontier would have revenues at the very top end of the £90m - £95m estimate. When the trading update stated they expected to post £91m (which was still a record year despite no new games) the stock price simply corrected from it's overinflated price. It's been running pretty much sideways for weeks now. Yes the botched Odyssey launch will have contributed but IMO it's more to do with revenues not matching expectations of certain brokerage firms.

Stock prices are largely irrelevant unless a company is looking to sell (or create new) shares to raise money and as Frontier had plenty of cash reserves at last notification it's pretty much a non-issue. They can continue to run operations regardless.

I expect the board of directors may well have been mulling over what may have happened if they decided to issue a profit warning and delay Odyssey for a few months. The price adjustment may well have been about the same as this but they would be dealing with less negative impact from the community. Hindsight is 20/20 though. The call was made, the damage was done and they can only look to move forwards at this point.

I don't want special rights. You misunderstood but that's probably how I put it. But clearly Drew's post was on topic in it's original forum. Frontier blatantly tried to hide it just because it's not what they want their customers to hear. It is censorship.

I can only wonder what he thinks of folks who are enjoying EDO. It's pretty damning words, there, and Im curious if Im allowed to enjoy this game. Is it ok that Im playing and enjoying the game? Is it ok I have barely touched EDH since EDO's release? Even with the 18 fps? And knowing it's still being worked on? I've been through all that before, with ED...it's nothing shocking. All these space games, at the moment, are being worked, on by the way. SC will be worked on till you forget its there, NMS is always ready with an update when their numbers drop below ED's. Osiris:New Dawn Early Development, it just goes on and on.

Drew Wager is one of the reasons I became such an avid fan of Elite Dangerous to begin with. Obsidian Ant introduced me to Elite, but I had to wait months for Elite to come to PS4, so Drew's first book is what really got me "into" Elite while I waited, along with the videos from the much-maligned content creators. It's also people like Drew and Ant who put a friendly face on the Elite Dangerous community.

I stopped playing Elite before either Drew or Ant, but for me the game is even further diminished with their leaving. Now if only I can get them to start playing Space Engineers or X4 ;)

Personally, I have no problem with people enjoying EDO. My issue is with people who say, "EDO is fine the way it is", because that removes pressure off Frontier to fix the actual, real problems with the game. But when people say, "I enjoy EDO despite the problems", I can't take issue with that. I'm absolutely loving X4 Foundations, and yet this game is riddled with all sorts of bugs and bad UI design. The reason I can tolerate it is that I get way more pleasure than pain out of X4, especially for the price I paid. Odyssey, on the other hand, doesn't compel me in the same way. And if I say something like, "Odyssey is rubbish!", that is obviously subjective, but on the other hand, one might argue it's also objective based on reviews, player numbers, stock value, and Frontier's own admissions.

But as for you personally enjoying EDO, that's great. In fact, I envy you on some level.

I have no problem with people enjoying the game. More power to you, really.
I have an issue with people trying to convince me that no, there are no issues. And that I'm wrong when I provide (and other posters) much data about said issues. Going as far as say I lie, cherry pick, and other things. Or just go full denial in the most absurd ways.

To be fair, I have the same issue about people who claim you are wrong to enjoy the game.

But move forward to what? Odyssey had bad perfomance reviews, and now bad content reviews are comming too. Like the Hawkes Gaming Tuber, that said something along the lines of " Unlocking Engineers and Lvl 5 Weapons/Suits leaves you with no content beyond".

Even if they manage to get it working on Consoles, will people still buy it?

This last 2 month have been a massive roller coaster. They have a lot to think about, and that includes whether they want to risk releasing Odyssey in the current content state on console.

At the end of the day this is a game. It is suppose to be an escape from the real world, a thing we can do that is fun. When it stops being fun you can expect people to stop playing and go play something that is fun.

The management of the game only have themselves to blame here. Personally I'm going to continue to play it but in a much reduced way, I'll be joining Drew in NMS for the rest of my game playing time. The amount of time I spend in Elite is now totally up to Frontier. The clock is ticking.
Replying to my own post here, which is just wrong but it's for the sake of continuity.

I stated above that I would continue to play EDO just with reduced hours, now a few days later and I realise I have actually not played at all, and any enthusiasm to play is just not there. As I am (In game) currently in deep space, I intend to log in now, set course for my home base, land and log out and that will be in until this clusterbourach (It's not swearing, it's Scottish look it up) is sorted out. It's just not fun right now. It can be sorted out if there is the intent by management to do so. However, It getting sorted before the mass of once devoted players find alternatives remains to be seen.
