Hippos and White Rhinos should not fight

On the point about territory. Animals are only territorial with their own species due to mating or hunting. I suppose the most common example of this is the domestic cat won't like other cats in it's area but, although it might not nessessarilly like dogs, a dog wouldn't be a terrirory issue.

I would love it if they would implement this in Planet Zoo. Would be awesome with the Elephants. They could do it in a Way that only a 5 Star Vet that is already in the Zoo for a certain Number of Years can do it that Way
A realistic feature I'd like is backstage areas for the animals. In zoos most habitats split a backstage yard and an open outdoor habitat. This way the keepers clean when the animals are backstage, and the backstage is what allows the zoologists and vets to access the animals for checkups

But why are Hippos then killing Animals like Antelopes (would show a Video but this would way too graphic Content for the Forum I assume)

Almost always add them to Enclosures😉

Hippos are aggressive and grazing area are scarce sometimes. If the hippos feel that they have enough food they will not attack antelopes unprovoked.

Sometimes male antelopes in heat are dumb enough to provoke Hippos, however.

It would look very realistic and you could make it yourself without a game upgrade. It doesn't address the 'keeping an animal separate' thing though. I suppose you could build one small hab backing onto a large one, both for the same species but only the large one has public access.

Taaa-daaaaa!! :) Excuse the crudity of this example :)

Thought it would be because of Territory because I remember seeing a Video of a Antelope getting hunted by African Wild Dogs that then tries to cross a River to escape, only to get attacked by a Hippo

All of the above. The word territorial is misleading, because the real incentive for territorial aggressiveness is lack of resources. That is why large carnivores have huge territories in nature, because prey is hard to come by.

I did not see the wild dog video, but yea hippos in nature are not kind to strangers.

I will mention that no only there was no incident with the animals in the zoo (except maybe the a single one with a zebra, but that's up for debate), a hippo even saved a rhino once from drowning in the lake.
Sounds really awesome. Any more Informations about the Hippo that saved the Rhino and the Zebra Incident?

Agreed antelopes should not be enrichment for hippopotomuses since hippos can be far too aggressive. I've never actually been to a zoo where hippos (or even pygpy hippos) were with another species, unless it was a bird.

Two male rhinos eyed a female in mating season
Once one eyed here, the other didn't like it and pushed its rival to the pond
The rhino wasn't able to get out
While the caretakers were planning to rescue the rhino, a hippo came from, dove and pushed it from behind until it got out of the water

The only video I could find of it was in a Hebrew article

Thanks🙂
But the Video won't play for some Reason ._.

Hippos are kind of a strange animal they’ve been observed saving animals from drowning and from crocs but also killing animals for no apparent reason. I’ve seen hippos chasing rhinos, buffalo, and everything short of a elephant. They are usually very territorial even outside of their species and highly aggressive especially mothers with calves and dominant males.

There’s always a chance they could get along in a zoo setting but there’s also always the risk too which is probably why 98% of zoos won’t mix hippos with other animals.

Bumping up this thread, as the red river hogs of all animals got interspecies enrichment with the hippos, yet they still can't be housed with rhinos.

Please Frontier, be consistent and allow rhinos and hippos to be integrated in safari habitats. It doesn't make sense that literally all african ungilates get along in the game except these specific two.

I know some zoos will castrate male hippos to make them more placid and less territorial. Male hippos in the wild are very unpredictable and seldom share space with anything less than elephants. Usually hippos are best kept alone although I guess there’s always the exception. Pygmy hippos in the US have been successful in community exhibits but can show signs of aggression every now and then.

Okay I decided this is the hill I would die on.

Guys I never asked you for anything, but help this post reach Frontier. It's such a small fix!

So please, like, comment and subscribe so we can make a difference and bring peace to our safari habitats.
