Odyssey Going Forwards

Well that's not correct. Elite (1984) wasn't on consoles. Neither were it's successors up until ED. A lot of the fanbase are playing ED because of their time in the earlier versions.
Elite Dangerous came out on PC first and the majority of the playerbase, I would bet, is PC.
Console isn't an after thought, it's a logical step to port it over to them because it increases the market and therefore sales.

But getting it all sorted on PC first and then porting to consoles makes total sense.
The NES version would beg to differ

"We all have the same goal and we will get there, together"

Thank you for the update, David. But could you please share with us what your goal is exactly? Is it still the same as the vision you had during the kickstarter? I would genuinely like to know, because yours and the player bases goals might have deviated years ago.

I'd say I was surprised/disappointed, but this is Frontier Development we are talking about.
A company of over 500+ employees, 10's of millions in yearly revenue, that has the undying support of it's community, but can't fullfil it's promises... while you got much smaller teams (Hello Games), with fewer resources, and less support, doing more for their games than Frontier ever will.
Do we really need to discuss all the bugs and lack of content plaguing NMS for years?
Apart from that, didn't the base game and Horizon turn into something good as well?
I got both on PC as Xbox and enjoy the hell out of them on both platforms.
I can agree with you upon that the way Odyssey has been launched shouldn't be the standard but unfortunately that is how a lot of software is pushed out these days.
And to be honest, I too would delay it for consoles since releasing something that brings them sub 10 fps would be much worse.

Well you don't speak for everyone. And no everyone is asking for a refund. As for meeting expectations, I guess that depends on what your expectations were in the first place.
Quoting Braben himself:
we can see that the strides we have made through the last five major updates are positive, but we must continue on with this progress to give the experience that you and we expect on PC.
… sounds like expectations have fallen short. He wouldn’t state this unless it were simply the truth.

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.
Awesome. For additional content I hope:
  1. Thargoid FPS stuff
  2. Critters at exo-biology sites
  3. Additional biomes
  4. New SRV and ship
  5. story-driven missions (could be DLC)
  6. additional areas and interaction for the concourse
  7. VR support
I guess ship interiors and base building will be a separate expansion or DLC.

Imo there's little point to release a downgraded Odyssey on last-gen consoles. Make it current-gen console only.

Chalk me up to someone with over 2K hours in ED, and Odyssey soured me so much to the game I have not logged in weeks. Minimal new content, minimal effort, and abysmall performance on a relatively powerful CPU, followed by tiny fixes, and a obviously very different vision on where the game is going. If I could refund it, I would just out of sheer disappointment. I've sold off my FC, mothballed my ships, and maybe in a few years time the itch will rear it's head and the game will be playable at least. But until then, this message from David just reads like PR control and little else.

FDev should just ditch Elite on console and concentrate on making it the best it can be as a PC only title. Because, as like many other games, having to gimp features so they will work on both this gen. and last gen. consoles means the game suffers and will never resemble the vision the creator had for this game.

Here we go again.

It baffles me that anyone here actually believes a single thing this CEO says. They already have your money. The only reason that they can't launch on consoles is due to them cracking down on games being released in a broken, or in this case, unfinished state because of Cyberpunk 2077.

He isn't really saying much or making any promises. All he is really saying is the game isn't fixed yet and console launch is gonna be delayed. In a polite way.
Whats not to believe?

pg1 - I wanna talk about the steps going forward.
pg2 - There is frustration, the community has spoken, we listened.
pg3 - Fixing all the issues with PC launch, we aren't done, and we are behind on consol launch....
pg4 - We are going to fix PC before consoles. So consoles gonna be delayed.
pg5 - Repeat: gonna fix PC before moving on to consoles.
pg6 - "So what does this mean?"
pg7 - More bug fixes and updates are coming for PC...
pg8 - And continue reporting with updates.
pg9 - We are working hard, remain calm...
pg10- Please bear with us.

I'm at the point where I don't even want information from Frontier because I automatically think it's a lie (intentionally or otherwise).

For my own sake I just expect to be disappointed when it does come to console, if ever. I'm not sure my faith in the company can be repaired. I still love ED but I can't get enthusiastic about playing anymore, being left indefinitely in limbo as the future of the game carries on without us.

I feel much the same. As someone who loves exploration, I was extremely upset at their extremely lackluster approach to on-foot exploration.

I feel like you guys put all your eggs in one basket. In the last year there has only been fleet carriers added to console pretty much. The core gameplay, which is flying spaceships, could have updates outside of odyssey. Like conflict zones, bounty hunting, assassination missions in more interesting environments. Say around damaged space stations, or science stations, or megaships, or planetside dogfighting. Now that would be something.

Its nothing more than to placate players into thinking they actually care. If they did care this expansion would've never been released and still being developed.

This is why Rockstar doesn't announce its updates until they're pretty much ready. I've yet to see them release anything poorly received

Edit: after a quick Google search it seems there has been, but I've never experienced any of what is being stated about it so, as I've also seen on here regarding varying cmdrs' Odyssey experiences, I guess results will vary 🙄

Honestly, it's this type of response that potentially makes FDev 'scared' to delay any release even though it's not ready. Don't be jealous of PC players, they're Beta testing the game for you.

1000x over we would all prefer a smooth, proper game launch than working through 6 months of a buggy mess. You should never want ED:O before it's ready, and saying that you do is why developers release games in half states.

Again, first and foremost they need to fix the game, not work on platform expansion. No PC player would tell you they wouldn't have prefered to hear of a delay for a couple months and get a much more polished game than what actually happened.
You do realize that this is not the first delay for odyssey. We were hyped at the end of LAST year for its release of JANUARY of THIS year....only to be told it would be later this fall. I get it about getting it right first but that is not what has me dejected....it's the constant putting a carrot in our faces and jerking it away. I've been playing since its release on PS4. They've been talking about planetary tech for ice worlds for years now...nothing....carriers took years to get....and not like they promised. It's just a constant struggle to believe these guys. You probably think Braben wrote that post don't ya? Hell no he didnt. He's been a ghost for years now....with the occasional sighting in the curtains of a dark back room. Also, it is the same mumbo jumbo word salad as before..... "We're going to fix it, be patient". Well no more from me. I'm happy you're happy. But don't blame console players disappointment for being jerked around. We are victims just as much as the PC players of this behavior as anyone....I'm just one who ain't gonna put up with it anymore. Glad you guys are getting what you want though...enjoy.

We're gonna miss you Konan.
I hope you come back when they release the final and stable version in consoles.
Cheers.
