Well, unusual things were just that, unusual. Laser disc versions, printed media, specialist shops- everything was valued whereas now information is cheap and instantly disposable.
I understand that very well, I dislike it as well and thought it will put me off. But the game play is that interesting, that I don't mind anymore. It is not really a space game though. Yes, you can fly around in space and you do sometimes, but most of the game play is on planets, so to me it offers that what EDO is missing out on. Currently I warp between star systems to upgrade my exosuit, but I return by teleporter. In the end this teleporter feature takes away most of the tedious space travel and makes the actual game play more enjoyable, because if I just want to go from A to B, I can do that in an instant, if both are known to me and have a teleporter. If flying spacecraft is more your thing though, you wouldn't be happy - teleportation gets me and my ship to the new location, so it doesn't required hyperspace fuel, whereas warping through space by ship does use it.
I don't have enough time in my life to watch BSG all over again... stop tempting me!

You can cut down the time by only watching the first two seasons.
