Odyssey Going Forwards

I'm still put off by my lack of PC finesse, but I have been considering an XBsX. I really dont want to restart my ED progress though 😒. I'm hoping Starfield will do justice to replace ED for me. I'll still have ps4 until it gives up on me

I believe FDev customer support used to offer an account transfer service, so all may not be lost. Of course, if memory also serves, they charge for the privilege, even though it's just moving a few database records around...

His CPU should have no problem handling 1080p at ultra. My CPU is about 30% faster, I run 4k ss=.75 usually above 45FPS and my CPU is rarely taxed. I can all but guarantee you that when they optimize this stuff his CPU can breeze through the game no problem.
Thanks for responding civilly, and you are most likely correct, but forgive me for pointing out that the min for Odyssey is a 2014 quad core i5 and the recommended is a 2018 6-core i5. The cpu scores are 5,316 and 9,858, respectively, and OPs cpu scores 6,531 on cpubenchmark.net.

My laptop with an rtx2060 is running Odyssey far better than what OP is reporting, quite nicely in fact, but I have a 2019 i7 six core 9750H that scores 11,309.

Looking at that, OPs cpu seems to be at the lower end of things, definitely not over the recommended, so maybe there's something more to it?

This transfer has a huge drawback. Your character will be transferred but without ANY assets. So you actually start from the beginning. 🤷‍♀️

You're casually omitting to mention everything Hello Games released for NMS since has been free, no charge, for extra content and not even for cosmetics, compare that with Frontier's greedy money grabbing actions.

22 (twenty two) large content updates since release, and another big one rumoured to be dropping next month on its 5 year release anniversary. All for free. From a team of about 15-20 developers (at most).

Compare that to FDev and, er... well, there's simply no comparison, really. Others will say that's just "hyperbole" and "anger", but you can ignore them... because the facts simply speak for themselves.

That's the kind of productivity & invention that FDev need to do to get the players back on board with E: D and Odyssey.

Time will tell if they are capable.

There are people who have a pc far above mine (3080, current gen i7) who have less FPS in 1080p than I have in 4k. Its just a weird mess overall. It does seem that 2000-series Nvidia cards suffer less from poor performance than 1000- and 3000- series cards, which makes me suspect their dev machines may be running 2000s. In any case, his cpu is close to min spec, but his ram and GPU is far above. Yet his performance is below the targeted min spec (min 30FPS at 1080p), and the game is rarely CPU-bound when suffering from low FPS.

Its just poorly optimized.

Yikes. I didn't know that. But your money remains though, yes? So you could at least sell your fleet before you transfer?
I'm actually not quite sure about that, but I think even your credit-account will be wiped. But as far as I can remember my squadmate wasn't (reallife) charged for the transfer but has received the warning.

I heard tell of a server patch today ... <he said rubbing hands gleefully>

In other news, a train full of fairies is said to have derailed!
(elf and safety are still investigating)

Thanks again for explaining. I take it that you are running a 2000 series GPU?

It's not optimised at all, because it was released unfinished.
I know you are a Very Angry Gamer™ but that literally means nothing in actual game development terms. Anyway, I can see where this is going so I am going back to EDO. Got some missions to hand in. :)

Nope, not in the slightest, which shows what you know. 🤷‍♀️

Good luck in EDO. Hope the missions haven't bugged out and reset themselves / failed while you've been here on the forum.
