Odyssey Going Forwards

My concern is that even if I play Horizons, eventually the changes from Odyssey will be applied to what is the superior version of Elite at the moment. I've moved on to other games rather than worry about one I love sliding into a blackhole of mediocrity caused by--to me--inexplicable changes in performance (VR is not acceptable atm) and user interface (that's the dealbreaker really).

I'm going to be watching closely to see if the "consolized" UI is rolled back in favor of one we've been using for years. I can deal with playing without VR but the redesign of just how to do everyday things has got to be fixed.

I'd be fine with canning Odyssey for now, reverting to Horizons as the "production" version of Elite and giving PC players who paid for Odyssey free updates for a long while for essentially backing a post-launch Kickstarter.
I switched to Odyssey and I was like a woman during menopause, still am. You sneeze and I will yell at you. Odyssey was a mess and I think from now on it will come together like a puzzle. I still play in Odyssey all tho... I'm on a quest now looking for Raxxla. I don't even know if they transferred Raxxla content in to Odyssey. I think if you own a Odyssey you loosing more not playing it. it is a mess, yes. was there a mess before like this, no, but close. keep playing the game and keep complaining, besides you consoles people, you will get your turn to complain soon enough.

edit : I feel sorry for the VR community because I think they will have to wait the longest to get off the menopause.

Good news! Thanks.
A Vista genomics module on carriers pls if possible at some stage so we can go into the great void and cash in our discoveries while out there.
cheers

good that there is a statement but for me its just shallow words again and i dont thrust them until i see action. i would bet FD "fixes" the basic problems once again and then carry on with console development. i am off to star citizen now. Atleast they are open enough to talk and show they development and have a great roadmap on what is to come even if they delay some releasedates (wich is good, take a note fdev). It was a great time. but i cant stand it to play with under 30fps with a really good system. especially when i cant enjoy the new planets in vr.

Any news on how things are going to go forward. How are fdev going to collect feedback and let us know what is coming up patch wise and dev post's
i can tell you: they do it like always. feedback via issue tracker (wich is bad imho) and dev posts are gonna be as they where like always. (didnt braben said every month?) - i cant even believe this but when they post its gonna be "many improvement & fixes" again. 100% sure lol

I expected supercruise news to half cover going forward. So a little disappointed and no post to say that they are working on implementing anything bear with them.

If console releases remains among their ambitions, pushing for console launches once Odyssey is in a good place in terms of its outstanding issues is absolutely the right thing to do. I've heard something like 20% of the playerbase is on consoles, so from a moral standpoint it's better to make on-foot gameplay available to all commanders before moving forward with significant new features.

Genuinely, I hope you have fun with that. Taking a break and playing something else for a bit is absolutely the way to go if the current Odyssey situation is causing you to no longer have fun.

I do have to point out, though, that "delay some release dates" is understating it a tad; wasn't the original release date supposed to be in 2014? Oh, and there is zero VR support.

Agreed, but wasn't NMS also making up for a similar snafu? It seems comparable to me. I'm not saying they should do it, but they need to do something. Making the game the way it should have been in the first place isn't making up for their mistakes, it's just doing what they were supposed to do in the first place. And to placate Alienating entire player groups? And to make up for the lies causing massive distrust amongst the community?

They don't have to do anything. But the example of the right thing to do has already given by the company taking all their console business. 🤷‍♂️
"Snafu"! I learned a thing :)

If this had been said three years ago, I'd have believed them.

One year ago, maybe.

Now, talk has to be replaced with real action, and FD has to stop building foundations and actually flesh out and balance the rest.
I think maybe, (he says praying), the penny has finally dropped. The ship is sinking fast and there's a mutiny among the Pilot's Federation with CMDR's fleeing to "the other side". So it's got to the stage where it's impossible to ignore.

I'm feeling hopeful yet cynical at the same time. Words are cheap, I need to see action to truly believe. But then I'm quite attached. I used to sneak into my school computer room to play Elite back in 1984. And despite my age I still look fabulous (Oil of Olay).

You're lucky, in my case it takes Oil of North Sea to make any impression ;)

Thank you david for this clarification as to the direction you are taking. As always, the serenity of your words testifies to the seriousness of your development teams. I can only encourage you in this direction and look forward to the next updates.

Really, 20 percent of player base is consoles? Interesting, maybe a similar percentage for VR players. So VR players aren't the only minority group. Console players should be glad odyssey isn't completely removed for them😘....... Just a joke at those who keep stating that VR is just a minority not worth bothering with😁
