Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Oh I didn’t realise you wanted more :)

There’s always more ;)

Obviously their perpetual nature does mean they get a bit boring. But it’s always interesting when they speak to long-form issues. Here are two from today that speak to the nasty desync seemingly, for example:

Lord knows how a $3000 Javelin would deal with such deprivations. But thankfully it’s nowhere near being a playable item, so we may never know.

But for a novel twist, how about we end with some ED refugees enjoying some choice instabilities? Ones which speak to the joys of glitch deaths combined with imperfect persistence ;)

Posting bugs from PTU, where bugs are most certainly expected, is kind of silly.

I guess it isn't as bad as posting the bugs from evocoti though.....

Hey, 4 out of 5 were just simple citizens running into invisible walls in the PU.

Can’t leave the best test-build bugs out though.

(A) Some of them are amazing :) (A chair that shrinks player avatars? That’s totally worth a $10 subscription ;)). And…

(B) The ones that don’t get fixed, or just get the sticking-plaster treatment, are kinda interesting long-term ;)

Lol

The sticking plaster CIG has been slapping down recently really doesn't counter Fritz's point. IE that the underlying tech is still far from robust.

A good example is the collision issue with ramps blowing up ships. They seemingly 'fixed' it by giving the ramps an infinite hit pool, for example:

"Why?" [Twitch clip]

Whatever's wrong with collision detection there is still obviously wrong, and they've just plastered over it. The underlying tech is still suss...

PS I'd also love to know how you're assessing that these issues are reduced in number. They're certainly, at minimum, still in evidence...

How can anyone hate Star Citizen, it's been a huge series of never-ending laughs, from detractors and defenders alike.

Star Citizen itself is a low quality, over-promised Kickstarter game and those are absolutely everywhere -- I get a lot of laughs out of seeing those completely collapse, too.

I don't despise Star Citizen the game one iota, to be honest I just examined my feelings about the game itself and they are 'meh'.

What I'm far from keen on though and in fact does tend to urinate me off in all aspects of life are the following -

Lies
Hypocrisy
Goal post shifting
Cult like idolisation
Shady business practices
Deflection

...all of which CIG, (and others), are guilty of in spades.

So... I'm seriously considering jumping to Star Citizen. I'm not sure I should, or even that I really WANT to. I mean, I love Elite, I grew up with it, and I don't know if Star Citizen will actually provide me with the experience I'm looking for, things Elite already does.

What has my attention at Star Citizen are the incredible ship interiors as well as the amazing planet surfaces that include extensive plant life and even weather conditions. It LOOKS fantastic, but what is there to DO in the game?

I expect I can do cargo hauling, something I enjoy in Elite.
I can do mining, though the mechanism is different, something else I enjoy in Elite.
I don't know what kind of exploration there is in Star Citizen, but it's the thing I do most in Elite.
I know I can do combat... which honestly looks more engaging than it does in Elite, which suffers from the presence of Engineered weapons with a variety of magic effects that serve to unbalance things. But then, I don't generally do much combat.

Truthfully, the reason I play Elite is to relax. I'm not playing for pulse pounding action, I play to haul cargo, quietly mine asteroids or methodically explore systems and worlds.

Of particular note is that I can opt out of PvP in Elite by playing in solo mode. I've no interest in PvP, but I don't know if Star Citizen allows me to opt out.

If Star Citizen can't offer me these things... I may be better off staying with Elite.

You see, Elite really hasn't changed. Odyssey is disappointing, but I can still do all the things I spent three years in the black doing. I can still run cargo, quietly mine and survey star systems. None of that has changed.

So, I'm no worse off staying with Elite. The question is whether I'd be better off with Star Citizen.

I just don't know.
Try playing more than one game? You're allowed to you know.

You gave $10 to someone to say something that someone will never read?
No, I gave that someone $$$$ to develop and deliver a product with certain specifications.

Besides, I really don’t care 🤷🏽‍♂️ if that someone reads my comments, that would be stupid of me… scammers don’t care about what people think of them

He bought a Skinny Latte with your $10, ta very much, sniffed, farted, probably, and went about the rest of his day completely oblivious to you.

Its interesting to observe some of the things that have happened recently and how they might tie in to other events in the last few years and what that might mean going forward. It's easy to forget how much time has passed since that original external investment in 2018 and I wonder if the fact that 2022 will be four years might be significant and tie in to some of the things we have seen since 2018.So to the speculation. Treat with a pinch of salt.

We have licenses for two games, concrete news that CR is moving to the UK to look after SQ42 next year and very obvious association with SQ42 alongside that, which is odd considering the money is in SC(ship sales). Turbulent have got progressively more involved on the SC side. It's 3 years since the original outside investment in 2018. when SQ42 was promised for Summer 2020 (3 years would have seen most of the cash received with that plan). SC and the ship sales is where the money is, could the plan be to split the company next year because the money men want out. Perhaps Turbulent contracted to develop SC on their own (perhaps even taking over ownership) with funding coming from ship etc sales and CR left with SQ42 and a single UK studio. Potentially that would allow the roller shutters to be dropped on a number of shell entities which you would think needs to happen at some point to close the door on refunds.

That is an interesting take, insight?

Something it seems to me certainly has gone on, i very much doubt CR would volunteer to move his entire family to sunny Manchester UK, something is up with that.

To surmise he's been in some way pushed out of Star Citizen is not that far fetched to me, we know of one investor who put $65 Million into the franchise, that's go to have bought him a 20%+ stake at the time.

I’m not sure why you want to push that “that someone doesn’t care about you” narrative even though ai toll you I don’t care about him either…

But hey if that makes you happy… 🤷🏽‍♂️

Its not worth getting stressed over, enjoy the game or don't, all this banging your heads against the Chris Roberts wall is white noise, white noise BTW is background radiation from the big bang, we all know its there but we don't tune into it, its the same continuous noise and its been there forever.

Mods have spoken, so got to tiptoe carefully here, but i'm not sure Sandi and the kids will be moving, or if so, perhaps flying back and forth. If CR is moving next year, it could conflict with Skye's part in Doom Patrol Season 4, unless the timing doesn't overlap.

But certainly nothing stopping CR moving to the UK by himself to slow down the production of SQ42!

But there again if CR says something is happening in 2022, it might mean its not going to happen until 2030.

ok, but why do you want the “white noise” gone? or does it bother you that people call CR a scammer?
scrap that… is really none of my business!

I will keep enjoying my subscription, courtesy of frontier development.
