Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Not listening to the skeptics is probably one of the more sensible things he did...he's been aware of SC for quite some time by his own admission, he was also well aware of the 'Scam Citizen' line of commentary (like anyone else who hasn't lived in a convent for the last 10 years). Never the less, he went in and tried it for himself for free on his brother's account and genuinely liked it... rather than listening to someone who has probably never played the game but is quite happy to drag the discussion onto Ci¬G's business practises rather than discuss what he could realistically expect from the game itself...

I can't fault his approach of just going in and finding out for himself... neither as a cynic or a player 🤷‍♂️

Finding out about the game and what it offers, fine. 100% on board with that.

How he phrased the comment about not listening to the skeptics, and i could be wrong here, haven't checked yet to see if he replied, is that he just totally ignored everything negative said about CIG, rather than listening, evaluating, and then deciding he has no issues with it.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Where are the -Z, +Z -Y +Y body movement in that?

Where are they in the Chachi video? (Are you talking about the avatar / rigging again? Because nothing in that SC footage suggests the avatar is corresponding to headlook in any way.)

Do you mean 6DoF movement in the camera? Here's another example from that vid if so:

Although you can see the whole works back in the Arma 2 version if you like, avatar included:

Because TrackIR supports 6doF...

I play amazing game. It's got lots of mining, then production. Then I put everything in big crate, but it too big to place on bed. I need crane for it!

(Haha, but I actually place crate on flatBED! Getit? Flat Bed.)

Anyway I drive to other place and unload crate - it has many littel crates in it. By now I am exhausted and log off. Der next day I log on I take all the littel crate and load it into small truck and then go to yet another place. Many people wait for my crates. When I arrive I deliver to them and they take everything I made the day before out and kill each other.

Let's take a trip down memory lane, back to when CIG celebrated the "art" made by AdzAdama way back in 2017

Hmm if the (Elite) Salty Doggo Club was anything to go by, responding to them meant you were griefed apparently, and hence mission accomplished. Best response was to ignore them really.
But i'll take that on board next time.

Note: i am a female avatar, so maybe they spotted my pert bottom in the station, and actually were trying to initial courtship? I have a great bottom!

Awesome, hope you get somewhere with things!

Not sure if this helps, but for my DualSense (PS5 controller) this is what happens when it's not detected / in exclusive mode / driver conflicts:

This is what my logs says when it works ok:

If i force-quit / end process on "Nvidia GeForce Experience" (and restart the controller app) it usually fixes things as thats the main culprit for clashes.
Thanks for these! Very helpful!
I'm going to try and sort this out this evening 🥳
From what you have said, I assume you mean kill the Nvidia GeForce Experience app before starting DS4? Can it be restarted after the DS4 App?

Thanks again!

Star Citizen was the best thing ever to happen for ED! From what i can tell, SDC have basically given up on playing ED!
Well on paper it's the perfect game: Open Only, 6DoF actual spaceships, potential for permadeaths coming. Hmm, maybe i need to go into that latest Hotel Cali thread and suggest other Open Only types try SC?
I always defended their "right to PvP" when the topic came up, but i did think crime and punishment was poorly implemented in Elite, and didnt agree with some of their idology: mostly ganking new players, as at the meta level it hurts a game to drive away players before they can establish themselves, IMO. The Null guy was hilarious though, i think he had a beef with the Fuel Rats, although the only real problem ganker we ever really had was the "Poo Beard" guy.

Almost correct. Full procedure is:
  • start DS4Windows
  • plug in controller
  • (check in Log if exclusive mode, if not)
  • click system tray
  • right click Nvidia Settings icon
  • click Exit
  • stop/start DS4Windows
  • check Log again

As said not sure if it'll help for a HOTAS as it's designed for mapping XBox and Playstation gamepad controllers. But the rational behind it may be impacting your HOTAS detection.

I don't know Vorpx but for what I've read, this software seems to be able to get some real 3D from some games. SC seems to give a "geometry 3d support" to Vorpx which is not the "immersive flat screen" mode you talk about. Vorpx can be run in "Immersive Screen mode" (= real 3D) with SC since at least early 2020. But even if in real 3D, I don't think it's enjoyable to play it in 3D with vorpx (the main reason is not enough FPS).

Yeah vorpX is a grab bag of tricks basically. There are a bunch of titles where the author has tailored a VR-ish experience from games which lend themselves to it. For all the others (like SC) you’re mainly looking at some form of pseudo-VR viewed via a curved 2D screen (as you see in that vid).

Honestly the general view in the VR world is so negative about vorpX that I’ve never stumped up the £40 to find out what the quality is like, but comparable mods I’ve played with have been pretty underwhelming. They normally perform badly and only hint at stereo depth. And the 2D screen presentation is a huge immersion barrier from the off (IMO).

On whether some SCers are opting to just play in headset, but without even faked 3D, as our friendly 'ED refugee' suggests, I dunno. But I have heard various VR heads say the cockpit scaling is fairly absurdly off, and alongside performance loss, I guess I could imagine some doing it.

Did you actually watch the video or just skip through it looking for Star Citizen criticism as usual? :D

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I'm an original 2012 SC backer, but I refunded SC several years ago. Recently I had an itch to check out CIG's 'progress'. I remembered that I had gifted someone I know a Star Citizen package waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2014. I asked him if he was ever going to use it. "Nope" he said. He dug in his old email and completed his account creation, then changed the email address to mine. :) Here I am again with a base Aurora. Huzzah.

Took off from New Babbage and promptly got into a spin and crashed. Woke back up in bed, then trekked all the way back to the starport to try again. This time I managed to take off and flew to Calliope (I think?), one of Microtech's moons. Landed and got out for my Armstrong Moment (tm). Wind blew over my Aurora, but surprisingly didn't seem to bother my character. Could not re-enter my ship. I died of hypothermia.

That was the first evening.

Since then I've had marginally better luck, and have done a few bounty hunting missions. I have yet to complete a single package delivery or cargo retrieval mission, however, due to the incessant bugs and glitches. The most recent was when I got a mission to recover a cargo package from a downed Freelancer. I found the box, but when I re-entered my Aurora the box disappeared back outside my ship in the spawn location. I re-exited the ship, got the box, and managed to re-enter and put the box down. Flew to the drop-off but then once I landed I got a message saying the mission had failed.

There are so many little frustrations like that that just kill my enjoyment. Every time I find myself getting into the groove of SC and actually enjoying myself there is something that will yank me back. Desyncs, physics bugs, frame drops, geometry that fails to render, elevators with disappearing controls, mysterious mission fails, terribad UI, etc.

I could see myself enjoying this game if all these issues were fixed. Of course that's not even getting into CiG's horrible, predatory business practice and lying - I'm only looking at the gameplay. For now I guess I'll just keep this account and at least be able to check in every so often to see if anything ever comes of this project.

The Guy in the video said it did not have the level of freedom of movement in the last patch, including leaning forwards / backwards . extending your spine to look over something or compressing your spine to look under something.
Giving the old VR issue a complete body swerve...but my Tobii eye/head-tracker has 6 dof as you describe it there... I'll give that to Ci¬G, the implementation and support for the Tobii is rather good, works on foot too but only 4 dof replacing mouse head look ;)

Did you read my initial post regarding the video or just skip through it? :D

I actually wrote step by step what he was saying and my thoughts on it, then noted where, due to the length, i was skipping towards the end to get his final thoughts.

So it was around the first 10 mins and the last 5 mins, which i was open and honest about. Most open review ever!

Thanks! I'm installing now! 😎

Edit. DS4 didn't seem to recognise that my hotas had been plugged in. I'll try again tomorrow 🙂

I thought it was a bit flowery and too full of little deserved praise for the game...but I did note his comments on the pricing strategy as well as him openly including a clip from one of his ED videos where he critised SC without ever having played it. He said he put the whole Scam Citizen arguments to one side...not ignore them. He wanted to try the game first hand and see what the game was all about behind the common or garden internet discussions surrounding Ci¬G's development of it. He played initially on his brother's account then bought his own starter package after trying it all out for a few days.

Like I said, I can't pick holes in that approach just because I'm more cynical than he is. He tried it, liked it... but was frustrated by the bugs and server issues...which goes for all of us from kick starter backers to newbies 🤷‍♂️

I'm not surprised sorry (this is why consoles are master race for plug and pray :p ;) ).
There is HOTAS specific software, eg: https://github.com/3noix/UJPS or https://github.com/fredemmott/cpp-remapper
Or try manually update the drivers eg: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/faqs/eng/thr_eng_00045.pdf
This has lots of suggestions: https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/A1Gy+CSYvDS.pdf
Similar issue in MSFS: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/x52-controller-detection-bug-fix-hardware-ids-dont-match/177311

I tried to join you earllier but your SC server was full, although not sure i can talk thru much more than already suggested.

To anyone: there's no way to message someone from the main menu is there?
Like you have to be in-game and then in a party or invite to channel?

Got a Prospector, due to some glitch with crime and punishment where I was trying to clear a crimestat I let myself be blown up and spent and epic 3 minutes in jail, anyways the glitch for some reason has given me a second Prospector!

I can imagine the faithful are already smashing that down arrow as hard as they can while composing their replies. I fully expect vitriol and name calling to be included... that famous friendly Star Citizen community we all know and love.
You can continue to imagine.
