Best candidates for endangered species pack?

I tried to come up with a pack of animals fitting for an endangered species packs with the criteria that they must be:

1. In line with the current game mechanics (no aviaries, aquariums, or exhibit mammals)
2. Not complete reskins (no sumatran tiger for example)
3. Must be Endangered(EN), Critically Endangered(CR) or Extinct in the Wild(EW) according to IUCN standards
4. Unique from each other (for example, no multiple Gibbon species)
5. Must be held IRL zoos (no Sumatran Rhino etc.), as otherwise the educational aspect of the pack is harmed

And honestly with these criteria I didn't find too many unique candidates.

What would you put in such a pack, assuming it is a 7+1 pack?

It is hard, to be honest.

Going with classics that everybody is mentioning, we have:

  1. Black rhino - no contest here
  2. Prezwaslki's wild horse - the only true wild horse left
  3. Somali wild donkey - I didn't know they were endangered, and they're beautiful
  4. Tasmanian devil - I believe there's a cancer that went around, right? But, in recent news, somebody mentioned that they recently reintroduced them to Australia; hopefully that works out in the end

Nice!

I've got:
  1. Lar gibbon - yhough it is more likely for an arboreal pack
  2. Addax
  3. Scimitar Oryx

These are probably my main choices, with reasoning for each:

1. Owston's civet (Endangered)
- One of the most threatened small carnivores that have been recommended for widespread captive breeding; currently there is a small but successful breeding programme taking place in Britain, with four zoos housing the species: they also have multiple keeping options as they can be kept in either outdoor enclosures or indoor nocturnal houses.

2. Przewalski's horse (Endangered)
- This is a true captive breeding success story, going from being extinct in the wild to having several hundred animals reintroduced in several countries; they are housed in zoos in Europe, America and Australia and animals from all these locations have been used for releases. They would also add the most-different looking equine species to the plains zebra currently in-game.

3. Iberian lynx (Endangered)
- I debated having one of the endangered leopard subspecies but decided the story of the Iberian lynx's conservation was too good to leave out; captive breeding and releasing has seen them being downgraded from Critically Endangered to Endangered and now surplus unreleasable animals from the breeding programme are being exhibited in zoos.

4. Goodfellow's tree kangaroo (Endangered)
- This is a fairly widely-kept species, with zoos in Europe, Singapore and Australia housing it (in America, it is replaced with the similar Matschie's tree kangaroo, which is equally workable); this would add a new marsupial to the game and also add another climbing species; they have been kept in walkthrough enclosures as well.

5. Horned guan (Endangered)
- This mostly ground-based bird is not overly common in zoos but there are at least five zoos in its native Mexico plus two in the USA and one in Germany that house this bird. It is a rather unique bird, with no close living relatives and has a very striking appearance. If a more widespread species is desired, the Northern helmeted curassow is also listed as Endangered and is kept in at least 63 European zoos alone.

6. Yellow headed temple turtle (Critically Endangered)
- One of the most threatened animal groups on earth are the Asian freshwater and land turtles; this is one of the larger Asian turtles and would add another diving species to the game; this is also a species with some captive representation, with three zoos in Europe as well as a number in America housing and breeding them.

7. Golden lion tamarin (Endangered)
- I wondered about which primate to choose and while a gibbon, mangabey or lemur could work, I decided to go with this icon of conservation; they are, with tail included, slightly longer than a meerkat so could work as a habitat animal; they are kept in a variety of spaces, including indoor, outdoor and walkthrough enclosures and would add the first very small primate to the game.

Exhibit) Kihansi spray toad (Extinct in the Wild)
- In this pack, Africa would be represented by the first Extinct in the Wild species in the game; this small toad was wiped out when the only waterfall it lives near ran dry after the river was dammed; it is a species housed primarily in North America, with at least five US zoos keeping them; this species is quite similar in size to the Lehmann's poison frog already in the game.

Agree with all, except the maned wolf is not endangered.
Oops my bad. I was trying to list out endangered species covering at least two from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Americas. Can anyone help fill an endangered species from the Americas frequently found in zoos?

The Tasmanian devil is a good bet, I think. Highly-requested before and since the Australia Pack, and an Endangered Species pack is really the only likely category it could fit into. I'd also put the leopard on the list. My gut says Amur, because it's the rarest, but it could also be the Arabian or Persian leopard for biome diversity.

With primates it's much harder to guess. I'd never have picked the proboscis monkey for SE Asia - I wasn't expecting a gibbon (brachiation), but I expected something more common in zoos like the Celebes black macaque or even the red-shanked douc or dusky langur. For a theme as broad as 'endangered species' it could be anything. Again, my gut points me to the New World, so perhaps a spider monkey or howler monkey.

In terms of ungulates the Przewalski's horse is probably a good bet, along with either the addax or the scimitar-horned oryx.

I've tried to pick species that have pretty good captive representation as well as being pretty well known for their conservational history.

1. Amur Leopard - The most popular leopard subspecies for the game, easily the flagship
2. Black Rhinoceros - Can also work as the flagship. I highly doubt that we won't get both African rhinos if content goes past this year
3. Golden Lion Tamarin - From what I've gathered, the golden lion tamarin is/used to be one of the flagship animals for South American animal conservation. We also need more New World monkeys, and at least one rep from the tamarins and marmosets.
4. Przewalski's Wild Horse - This seems to be one of those species that most people silently agrees should be in this game.
5. Red-Crowned Crane - Probably one of the most notable of endangered ground birds. I'm also trying to sneak a decent number of North Asian species into this pack, because that area is desperately lacking.
6. Scimitar-Horned Oryx - I chose this one over the Addax purely to get an animal that uses the "Extinct in the Wild" tag. The oryx is practically the poster child of that status. Also, gives us another North African animal.
7. Tasmanian Devil - Easily the most popular Oceanian animal for inclusion.
E. Axolotl - Too iconic of an animal to not include at some stage (might even end up in an NA pack, and if so, I'd replace this slot with the Wyoming Toad).
