Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Guilty as charged m'lord

That was meant to be read in an Admiral Ackbar voice for context.

I had a bounty-thing to "apprehend" you, but the coppers thought you were only worth 5000 aUEC, so clearly you need to work on being a bad boy :p Same as a LRT bounty, didnt seem worth bringing you in.

I just can't bring myself to shout at the screen. Although i guess it's like Star Trek where they ask the ships-computer to do things. Dunno the concept just feels to weird to do voice attack.

Sure, but there's nothing actually in-game except to add each org member as a "Friend" specifically?
You can not actually see all org members in a big list or anything?
I joined the D2EA org and cant see anything in-game to help or indicate i'm part of that org.

Oh, and the WorkingSet being red, is that normal please?
Workingset is always red for me too...not that I have the displayinfo thing on that much except to check the BwIn for potential 30k's.

And yes, the org system is mainly all run via Discord these days, there's no in game indication that you're part of an org (besides adding other org members to your contacts list) unless you change your SC handle to incude the org ID...(eg) D2EA_Stinja. Not many folks do that these days, it's a remnant from the clan system from other games.

There'll be an Org page on Spectrum somewhere where all your org info, Discord servers etc are to be found. Join D2EA's Discord server and you'll see what the rest of the guys are up to.

All I said was it's getting better...framerates at the same place in Orison a couple of PTU builds back was 10-14fps with the volumetric cloud detail set to medium or high. The screenshot I posted had the cloud detail (and everything else) set to max. Did you read the post or just look at the pictures?

For Star Citizen...since that's what we're discussing here... specifically for the latest 3.14 PTU build, the overall framerates, stability and smoothness even at those relatively low framerates are pretty good in Star Citizen terms, nothing more. Compared with the current 3.13 live patch, even though the framerates are slightly better overall in that, the latest PTU build was an absolute pleasure to play. The lack of desync and server lag, especially in Xenothreat and compared again to the last effort, made it even better.

Video from last night...should I put a caveat up strictly for Auntie about the low framerates?

And here is the pilot :)

Personally when it comes to framerates, most of comps I have owned have been in "potato" category, some 30 fps for me ARE in "good enough" range. Reason why I did not rage when EDO released....

I've always been in the category of being just behind my friends in terms of upgrades. Always the previous generation. They were always bleeding edge while i could only afford the tier lower or two.

Then i got a family, and hardware had to take an even further back seat.

But at the end of the day, i want a good experience. So i don't like submitting to sub-optimal gameplay due to hardware, and will generally only play games that i can have a good experience with.

So, on that topic, just been discussing my birthday present with my wife and daughter, which is still a few months away, but you know women, like to plan in advance.

When i brought up the topic of graphics card, they rolled their eyes. Wife thinks clothes, or if tech, a new mobile phone would be better. Daughter is annoyed with my car stereo and thinks i need a new one, plus new mobile phone.

This is going to be a hard sell.

CIG are only obliged to deliver you a ship with a name on.

I mean, its at least somewhat right. At least as far as ships go. There is this sticky issue of all the actual stretch goals..... but hey, its kickstarter. No promises!

Love it...inspecting the troops at the refinery :D

Keep the screenies coming, you certainly have an eye for a good pic (y)

First time I've looked at Crusader from orbit in a scenic sense...mainly because of a bug in the current PTU build that sets the escape altitude at 750km. It takes 10 minutes or more, depending on the ship (bigger ships take longer and run out of hydrogen fuel), going at full burn from Orison to escape atmo before you can QT anywhere...even just heading to Port Olisar (or Orison) from anywhere else, the drop out of QT at Crusader is at 350km which means you have to fly 400km back out to exit atmo before you can continue the journey to Olisar or Orison....hence the screen shot, I was trapped there for over 5 minutes just trying to escape.

Current workaround until Ci¬G fix it in the upcoming PTU build is to drop out of QT early...as in further away than 750km...so you can QT past Crusader or on to Orison.

I guess we will just have to dissagree, in this way it will take about 40 years to complete the work and the installed size of it would be about 2TB.

One of us! One of us! One of us!

Pigs Cows Whales fly.
FTFY!

That is one thing that bugs me, no pun intended, someone with deep pockets can by pass the grind of earning your ships in game.

You know, i'm all for after sales micro transactions, they need to pay for the servers ecte.... as long as those micro transactions don't result with those with the deepest pockets gaining the upper hand, so yes that is a concern to me.

Noone likes that other than those with the deep pockets who dont have time, like "we" do, to play video games.
One of us! One of us! One of us!

They will reuse assets. It certainly won't be 90% of assets not reused in each system.
And for the bank of assets they have now, we only know what is shown for Stanton and some parts of Nyx. We don't know what they already have for Pyro and in SQ42.

"textures do not make themselves"
They have some cool techs in SC that allow them combining decals with tiled surfaces to make new textures easily. They are also pretty good with shaders and use them a lot.

This and they use procedural generation for the planets etc, then add certain assets and touch up certain areas of each planet...sounds a bit like FDev so...
One of us, One of us, One of us.

They are race and company focused, not location focused.
Once all human companies assets will be done, the asset bank for the human race will be almost done.
They will reuse rooms, they already do it in Stanton.

So, not much different than EDO. The difference at the moment being FDev's definition of "all" being n+1 where n=1, and CIG's, which Im guessing has n=6? One of us etc.

They're both alpha. Little Ant just admitted so:

FDev may have stepped in it, a bit, but no matter what folks say, EDO is a released game and is taking all the flak it deserves.
SC on the other hand has this new thing you have to click ok to make you aware it's an alpha. I wholeheartedly think that that agreement thing is solely for CR himself, since he's the only one who'd ever mistakingly say it's a released game. But then CIG have stepped in it too, since it's not even an alpha and really just still on the drawing board, so to speak. I wish they'd not call it an alpha, since it only has about 0.94% [almost 1 system out of 100] of what they say it will/should have. Maybe a sketch.

I was one of the weird ones in ED who was highly disappointed the first time I jettisoned a ton of slaves out of the hold and saw a cannister instead of floating bodies

Always thought it's odd, given the size of those cannisters, that there are mutiple bodies in there. Maybe after you open a cannister, you have to add water, and then you have 100 slaves? Would be nice if they replaced the placeholder cannister with like a space dinghy or space habitat.

Ah, were now doing the 30 FPS is fine debate?

You only normally get those in console vs PC threads :p

If i wanted to be a dirty console peasant, i'd play on the PS4 we have.

It's ok for SC to have low framerates because they have nearly $400 million to work with, and the game isnt released. It's not ok for FDev, since they have $25 but it is a released game...simple.

Biggest problem with SC is that if you get disconnected from the server, that's basically death, even though you can just reclaim your ship you lose everything else like cargo or ore and fail whatever mission you were on. This is still a thing after 12 years?

Does that happen if you log out while in space, too? That's definitely a nice thing in EDO, where you can do whatever, and you know what you have with you. They have it down to planetary missions, even, so you wont lose anything other than if you're killed in the current mission you're on. I suppose many MMO's have that though. I wonder if when/if SC has that, how fluid things will be...framerates etc. i.e. they may not have it in there, because it cant work/breaks the game.

They do have bed logouts in the ships which works similar to logging out on a planet in ED, remembering where you were etc. Sometimes it works flawlessly...sometimes it doesn't. With only having the one system though, there's little need for anyone to use it 🤷‍♂️

This was fun to watch ty.

Thou wanted to pointed out - it was a bit hard to see the ships you were shooting at as an example:

Untitled.jpg

Enemy ship is right in your face, but you can still barely see it.

Untitled1.jpg

Multiply ships here, but all barely visible.

Hopefully this is something they would adress at some point, it's a shame to not see this beautifully deisgned ships.

The EVA part at the end was awesome to watch, so much immersion.

Where the fight took place is almost the furthest place from the Star (Stanton) in the system and in the shade of a massive and very dense lagrange cloud (where the EVA sections took place), it is a particularly dark bit of space up there. Usually elsewhere in the system, there is sunlight glinting off the hulls and the ships are way easier to see... even from a lot further away.

If you liked the EVA sections, Kate Byrne's newest adventure in Star Citizen should be right up your street :)

Hello! Elite refugee here. So I bought the Aurora pack and this is my first day:

Installation. Wow, this soundtrack is amazing! Listen while game downloads 55GB. Yes! Almost done. Wait, updating another 55GB??? Don't care. Listen to soundtrack.

Start game, get out of bed. Wow the toilet is amazing! I open all the drawers and the toilet bowl. Show my kids the toilet, "Kids this game has a toilet!"

Frames are choppy (Area 18). What if I change to windowed mode? Crash. Okay let's not do that again!

Let's kill claim jumpers! Awesome space combat, fly uncoupled mode, which is like elite dangerous FA-Off. Very very atmospheric.

What's this? The Young C. Hurston wants to give me a mission? Find my way around Hurston's subway system. Metro Central is not central business district, okay.

Get a mission to collect a safe from inside a complex. Fly there in Aurora and get shot up by AA. One wing missing and ship is rolling left... hurry crash land 1.3km away.

I hoof it to the complex, hearing the ground crunch under my feet as the desert evening turns to night. It's incredibly ATMOSPHERIC. Clearing the complex was scary AF. Finally got the safe and hoofing it back to the ship. Then 30000 disconnect.

Oh well, that was a fun time anyway! Love this game!

TLDR: the most fun I've had in a space sim ever.

I get blamed for so many things!

In the gas clouds yes, especially the green ones, they are volumetric, they are very dense in places and its very dark in there so it is difficult to see the ships.

It is better for visibility outside of the gas clouds but still not brilliant. unless what you're looking at is in direct sun light.
But for me the density and darkness of those clouds adds to the immersion, its a very moody environment, it feels brooding in there and with the density sometimes asteroids and other ships fade in to view when you're right on top of them, its very deliberate.

Having said all of the the recording is also a little darker than it should be, something about Nvidia recording app that makes it a little darker than original.
