Update 6 your thoughts?

This loot delay... is that an option?

Because when I tested yesterday evening, I looted as soon as I pressed "E". Didn't have to hold it down for 1 second.
That happens for mission items, as they aren't illegal to pick up.

Anything illegal needs the hold.

I completely lost my faith in getting a fixed game without waiting a year at least. Still 30fps on foot for a 6 years old game. VR is STILL a joke. No, I don't have a potato pc. Yes, I tried to change the settings. No, I'm not a whiner: Frontier should hire some 3D programmers to fix the engine before doing -anything else-. A 1080 is more than enough to have 100fps / 1440p everywhere for a game like this one. It's their fault. Anyway, I will keep the game installed just to check if it will be fixed in a year or so, even tho i'm sure that in the end we will get used to this bugged engine and we will need a 3080ti to play Elite.

While megaship looting finally works again, it's a bit of a pyrrhic victory from my perspective - performance is still pretty awful all things considered (particularly in the context of what's visible on-screen) and only somewhat addressed by using corner-cutting 3rd party solutions (FSR) which, like any good old double edged sword, further degrades image quality, as if the game didn't already have issues with aliasing and blurry visuals before despite running it at 2k and Ultra settings. It's especially noticeable now after taking a short break and playing other games for the last few weeks.

Alas, it seems that after six patches Frontier is not able to work wonders with EDO after all, just as I feared (but I kept quiet until its release so not to jinx it).
They explicitly said that the bulk of the performance improvements would not be in U6 in the monthly update...

My pc doesn't meet min specs.

AMD Ryzen 3 1300X Quad-Core Processor, 3700 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2gb
16gb ram

On ultra I'm getting at times up to 50fps. Around fires and during the fighting it drops to around 20. But fighting doesn't interest me so I'm good to go.

So yeah. FDEV have done a good job.

That being said. It's a buggy POS game. :D

And for the love of god. Give us an option to remove carriers from the damn system map.
runing the game on ultra witha gtx 1050 2gb .. lol its not even a ti lmao

As the day passes i get more concerned that devs can fix fps issues, fact is, it's getting worse... Also, the game was much smoother on update 4, why don't they just rollback to it(while they work on fixing fps problems)?

And probably not in patch 7, or 8, or... It's ok. I'm taking EDO now at face value (not that I haven't done so previously but I did have a little bit of hope that they might get it to run smoothly over two months after release at last), the fact they didn't suggests we will either never get EDO to run like Horizons, or by the time they do it's EoL... yeah wouldn't want to be a consoliero right now (although their silver lining is they at least didn't pay any money).

Is it just me, or has the variety of NPCs in the station concourses just skyrocketed? It got so I was seeing the same faces everywhere, but the station I'm running around in now has a much bigger range than usual.

I don't remember seeing NPCs with scars before, and two of them showed up in this same station.

Some are happier to be here than others...

It is what it is. That being said I've never been a fps junkie.

It's just very badly optimised. Near fires and in first person combat is generally the only time that my machine tanks. Which is the same as everyone else more or less.

Driving/walking around it's no problems. I'm usually mid 20's to mid 30's. But I'm not interested in first person shooters. Hell the only shooter I currently have installed is Fallout 4.

I do wonder how much dodgy Pr0n sites people look at to get such poor performance considering the rigs that they have.

EDIT:

I should add I'm still extremely ed with FDEV. For what ODE actually gives us it should run on potatoes from 2010.

The removal of AMD CAS is disappointing imo, really helped with improving the ability to read HUD text without eye strain. I have now set Anti-Aliasing to OFF, Super Sampling at X1.0, Scaling to Normal. Text is better but still inferior to CAS. 2560x1080 native res. Non aliased 'fizz' more bearable than out of focus text for me (just).

You can always use Reshade. It has FidelityCAS (with a third party download) alongside a bunch of other sharpening filters. And it also has a great number of other filters, if you're interested. People do wonders with Reshade, I use it only for sharpening, but I use it for all my games.

Im trying to reconcile these statements. The mid 20 to 30s as “no problems” but wondering about others habits because poor performance. I’ll just add my game rig is not used for web surfing so… if only my addiction could explain it.

Its fairly simple (at the root, not in solving) I think. The game performs poorly and in many situations it’s simply not using the GPU resources well so those are the places where FPS tanks from a 1080 to 3090. People with next gen GPUs are getting marginally better FPS than my 2080 but they should be as its a third better in raw performance but that is still terrible performance in general.

It completely sucks. CAS was doing a nice job for me with disappointing frame rates but pretty nice quality all around. Now I’m stuck with no performance improvement and lows are worse while also getting a horrible, shimmering, noisy, nasty appearance to low angle ground texture and distant complex objects.

The worst of all possible worlds. Every update is worse performance for me now somehow. This sucks.

There's some good stuff in Update 6, however headtracking for users of hardware like TrackIR is still not functioning correctly when on-foot.

I also teamed up with 2 other people and took on three missions. Two other team mates got stuck using a terminal so they had to exit and I got stuck on a black screen when exiting the game. Some bugs still but still having some fun.

I'm seeing those shimmering textures too on planets near the ground and it's a little distracting and almost gets to the point of hurting my eyes. It's not a great experience at all. The first planet I landed on after Update 6 felt like a huge downgrade with respect to this.

When first trying the new FSR, I thought for a second that it looked worse but I'm slowly getting used to it, I think. The aliasing is still extremely obvious and rather distracting. I'm still getting frame rate issues as there are times when it suddenly dips very low (AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB 3600MHz RAM, nVidia RTX 2080 @ 3440x1440).

There still seems to be a persistent issue where frame rates dive and if you exit the game and come back in they then return to normal.

I'm not disputing any of that. My remark was more a tongue in cheek response about general system optimisation. I'm a professional photographer and I purchased my rig specifically for that task and that task alone. Above all else I need stability as opposed to brute power.
