Yes space is darker now and that is realistic. But honestly it looks terrible. The planets look good, other stuff looks good. But space is the thing we're are flying about all the time and it sucks.
Turn the gamma up you say? This is actually a good test of the current problems. It used to be you could reasonably turn it up and see more of the galactic backdrop. But the color levels are now so low you just get a crushed splotchy mess.
Quite simply the black of space is still pretty black.. It has improved but it is not even close to where Horizons was. In-fact a lot of the color grading and variance that appeared in later Horizons updates is basically gone. Yes at times it was unrealistic, but when balanced properly it added a lot of depth, interest and visual orientation to wandering around in the 'black'.
Im not going to bother posting any screenshots unless someone demands I explain myself. We all have different monitors, with different settings and different personal preferences. But one thing is true about the current EDO lighting in space, it is completely unforgiving to any display device that struggles with darkness and blacks. Aka 90% of all of them. It's a poor design choice. At least make the black of space 'brightness' configurable, so another long standing forum war can be put to bed.
