Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Can i shoot you just because i want to? :p

Yeah, Braben said he wanted interiors all those years ago, and if they don't come eventually, i'll be kind of miffed.

What I dislike most about it all is the CMs trying to wave it away. Like Arthur saying its no good without gameplay loops. SC doesn't have interior gameplay loops, but people love it regardless.

Why not just say "Its still something we'd like to do, but we don't have the time and resources at this point to dedicate to it."? That would go down a lot better (i think) than the stuff they come out with. We know FD can't throw hundreds of devs at it. We know stuff takes time. We saw how Odyssey took them years to do, and even if we can point to Helo Games/NMS doing stuff quicker, we know FD can't match that sort of output for whatever reason. But don't try and horse manure (apparently you can't even say Bee Ess on this forum) your way out of it. Just say, not on the cards at the moment and be done with it.
I don't mind all the same...I play ED+O because it doesn't have ship interiors...

Now that's an interesting perspective. I have heard some people being defensive of EDO when saying it, but you're not defending it, you're just saying.

I'm more like I play ED because its ED, with or without interiors. Space. Ships. Combat. Exploration. Etc. I didn't have space legs and ship interiors in 1984 or 1992. Maybe i won't have in 2024, but i still damn well enjoy it, and i'll damn well enjoy it with interiors if FD ever deliver.

Now when will FD add rainbow unicorns? That's what I want to know!

Are people enjoying ToW?

Isn't he on the US servers? They might be busy. Think we're all on the Aussie servers...I didn't launch, just joined in so I'm not sure.
Probably US, he was getting very frustrated, I think he said the last 3 or 4 sessions he has played just didn't work, he couldn't do the things he was wanting to do because of the game not working. The bit I watched he was in someone elses ship and I think was in a turret, and it was shaking all over the shop and wouldn't let him fire. Eventually he somehow ended up floating in space and looked sad.

Just going back to the 'star citizen promises to be everything for everyone' thing. Boredgamer's new video is about the thing some SC players left ED because of, and now it's coming to SC. Modularity and "after market" customisation. So, engineering basically?

Oh, this is good. I remember some people saying SC would never have engineering grind. Ooopsie.

Now, i say this as one of those who think FD screwed the pooch on engineering, making it all about upgrades rather than sidegrades. But what do i know, i don't understand game development.

TheAgent on SA, and it was apparently also mentioned on Eurogamer around the same time.
I remember something about that from 4+ years ago, but it was about how they cannot get you back for reshoots and additional mocap and VA work or something. We also had a conversation about how actors can have clauses for time limited marketing and promotional material, but there was never anything remotely confirmed or talked about by "real" video game sites.

If you're talking about my posts directly, I did have something about how Sandi was paid more than Oldman (she's in like 95% of the game or at least was in the original leaked script) and Oldman is basically in for a speech or two and got paid less. And he supposedly wasn't happy she was paid more than him.

Doesn't sound like the parts of engineering ppl most objected to - sounds like you'll just be buying optimisations with UEC. Sounds like another rabbit hole they can vanish down for years adding modules. The idea of hunting down places to do your upgrades sounds very pre-internet - don't they realise everyone will just look them up once known?

Kinda interesting how well that works with ship interiors - I imagine that fdev could have been put off doing interiors because once ppl got past the 'ooh interiors' posts the next would have been 'why can't I visit my passenger cabins / cargo bays / vehicle bays' - and now it looks like SC will be having to model all those interiors (though IIRC most interiors are more fixed than the imagined ED ones).

Yeah, I guess all their 'after-market optimisations' may be a simple cash* purchase, perhaps avoiding some grind. They are still going to inevitably end up with meme builds which will be required to be competitive in pvp, one of the main gripes with engineering in ED according to the pvp streamers who left.

*In-game or otherwise

Sandi being paid more than Gary Oldman is obviously because she's a better actor. You clearly don't understand casting development 🙃

It depends on whether you're playing solo or with company in the end...as much as SC's ship interiors have little to no associated gameplay outside of co-pilot missile operator and turrets, it's still designed to be experienced as a crew. Playing solo, although the interiors or the act of walking into and around the ships has never got old for me, really holds little function as a solo experience bar the immersion aspect. Multi-crew is a completely different story...from the small and medium ships to the larger ones.

The idea of playing SC like I play ED or EDO, almost entirely as a solo experience barring occasional encounters with other players in other ships would be denying the part of SC I enjoy the most. Ships come alive in SC with friends... 2, 3, 4...or more of you manning one or two ships for any aspect of SC's gameplay makes it that little bit special. I play ED and EDO for the solitude, I play SC for the social multicrew experience.
Absolutely Mole, in the case of multi crew, you and your pals are the ones adding “content” inside the ship that is meaningful for you and your crew … but this pretty much applies to any other aspect of the game… any game!

Increasing graphics settngs is a perfectly normal way of improving performance in video games.

CIG are once again ahead of the curve by making this happen.
Didn't I just mention that? It's always been the same with SC...reducing the graphics settings only chucks all the work on the CPU causing a bottleneck like I said. Higher settings work better, it's never been that much of a secret or anything. It's one of the first tips I give out to new folk struggling with frame rates. Turning the graphic settings to medium or low drops the frame rates a fair bit. Let your GPU do what it's supposed to do and share the load from the CPU...

On my setup, it'll cost me 10 fps or more if I select medium or low graphic settings...for folks with weaker CPU's and mid range graphic cards, balancing the load between CPU and GPU by turning graphic settings to high or very high makes a good bit of difference :)
