Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Useless if you ask me. You are already silent when crouching, so it only affects you when walking or running. I don't see the point of that one, myself. I've never had any problem sneaking up on someone without it.
I am having the problem sneaking past people in buildings...without shooting them.
The quite steps helped out. Also following people while doing an ID scan worked better.
Got my mavy and the exec(with mods) up to G5. And got the Terra Velasquez invite open after many failures.

Is on-foot fighting difficult?

I tried the tutorial but as the first sign of combat arose, I died very quickly.
Yes, at first it's quite difficult. I died a lot.

I kept forgetting to deploy my shield, for one thing (it's off by default because it uses power). I had to learn how the NPCs behave, and what my weapons could do, settlement behavior and layout, and yeah...lots of learning.

Figuring out how stealth works is very rewarding (I've posted links previously to some good info on this). The Odyssey missions are in some cases very complex and immersive. Lots to learn there, too.

That is what's kept me busy and happy in Odyssey. I love learning new skills, especially when learning them leads to success.

Anyway, expect to die a lot. To make it as cheap and easy as possible, start out doing missions by using the Apex taxi to get there. That way, when you die, your ship is not stranded on some planet where you left it. Once you die less often, taking your ship becomes important (for recharge, SRV, missiles, to offload mats, etc.) but at first just use the taxi.

Also, start with the non-combat missions. Simple transport missions or salvage are usually pretty easy. You'll still get jumped on some salvage missions, though.

Bear in mind that I'm an old guy with pretty bad reflexes (I'm 70 in case you forgot), but it's not about speed so much as knowledge and tactics.

So I'm doing pretty well now. I still die when I screw up badly and get 10 guards after me, but it's rare now. I've even taken out 20 man bases without raising any alarms. It's pretty exhilarating.

Thanks Codger!

I've done a fair few delivery and salvage ones so that's OK but it's the fighting I'm rubbish at it seems. So... looks like I'll die a lot :D Ce la vie! Have to try sometime, right?

Yep. It's worth it. Lots of fun to be had. I started out with a G1 suit, too. Once you have a G3 Mav you're in pretty good shape. I like the plasma weapons, no switching. I'm too slow for switching weapons during a fight.

Anyway-- today I decided to buy and (partially) equip a Viper MK IV. I've always liked that ship, it's like a mini-Python. When I do a reset on my alt I usually wind up having one for a while, but I don't have one on my main (until now). It's actually very flexible, and I think it will be excellent for Odyssey on-foot missions.

I haven't come up with a decent name for it yet. And I'm missing a bunch of mats to fully engineer it. But it's working and I'm going to use it for a bit, see how it does.

I have 2 paint jobs for it. The free 'azure' one (ick) and a midnight-black one. So...it's black.

what suit?. im on a g3 suit i seems to last longer now! ducking and weaving and remember those red barrels exploded
I has a Grade 5 Maverick with Night Vision, Increased Backpack Capacity, Faster Shield Regen, and Increased Battery Capacity. I also have a Grade 5 Dominator with Night Vision, Battery Capacity, and Faster Shield Regen.

Mostly I wind up using the Maverick because I need the cutting tool so often.

Here's a shot of me from today with my Viper, trying to look menacing as usual:

The Viper is working out really well so far. It even survived a surprise attack by some on-foot scavengers at a crash site. So the shields held well, and I haven't finished engineering them yet.

It can land in a very tiny space, too. No problem finding a spot to set it down.

So now I guess I need to finish engineering it!

I cant find the mats to unlock the night vision guy. Any tips?
I got the Financial Projections mostly from HAB data ports while I was looking for Opinion Polls :)

I got the Employee Genetic Data and Genetic Research from mission rewards. You just need 20 total, of any of them. I didn't find any Biological Samples but I didn't need them.

Black looks cool on it.

Interesting tidbit -- I got curious and went through my Inara logs to figure out how many Odyssey missions I've done so far. It's just over 200! Fun times for me I have to say.

Had to log out mid-session but it's a good session!

I'm at an evacuated settlement to retreive a computer thingy from a HAB building. Which I can't find yet.

I'm cutting into panels and overloading the door releases to see what's what inside. Found some lockers to pilfer. Fires all over which I need to put out but I can't find how to vent the atmos yet.

Some scavs dropped in but I had my missile boat with me so they didn't last very long :D

I think I may need to switch the power on at some point too. No idea how that's done!

Now, where's that HAB building?

It's fun mooching around in the dark not knowing what you're doing and I'm resisting the urge to go Toobing for answers! :D

Still, I did find this poor soul who is completely in the wrong universe - Vigo the Carpathian must've gotten to her:

I are a soldier now. It made me laugh that a pistol shot was what did it. Also 6% Deadly.

I've been working a little on my Artemis suit. I don't need a lot from it, but I wanted Night Vision and Jump Assist. I had a G2 with Night Vision, and another G2 with Jump Assist, so after comparing mat requirements, I decided my best bet was to upgrade the one with Night Vision on it to G3, and then add Jump Assist.

So now I have a G3 Artemis with Night Vision, and I just need a few more Patrol Routes to add the Jump Assist.

While messing around with the suit, I found that I had a free "Exobiologist Mostly Directionless" cosmetic. I guess you get one with each rank or something. So, I put it on. I can't stop laughing. Actual green thumbs, plus everything else. I look hilarious. I'm a mean green scanning machine!
