Finally 'found' them... behold... "Fishwater" is now under my tender control.

Unlike the previous settlement, this one has no debt and is actually producing. Citizens are very unhappy though... only at 11% and there's only 30 of them.

A bit disappointed that I can't build a teleporter nearby, nor even a base computer. I was hoping to build a log cabin on one of the surrounding hills (which it lets me do), but no means to power it. There's probably a workaround, because I've seen it done.

Build a base computer at the correct distance away and you will be ale to build close/in to the settlement...
This includes portals... For instant return from any other portal location...

I tried about 370u away from the settlement, and it said that the area was already taken.

I'll try further away later, and see if I can do it then. Thanks. :)

Agree. If I take over a settlement, I'd like to be able to use my own building stuff somehow.

I live in a log cabin IRL. I'm happy to leave the flatlands free for the settlement to grow in and not disturb it any other way, but with the new Timber building tools added in Frontiers, I was hoping to build a super-plush log cabin on a nearby hill so I could look over my town - in an overseery kind of way. :ROFLMAO:

Apparently the building materials used in the settlement are particular to the race. Vy'keen is stone.

I was going to do something like that too, but I don't like the planet I'm on. Trying to find a settlement on a planet without constant storms of some kind. Found a wonderful planet now, but no settlement. 😭

If it's inhabited, there will be one. Just might take a few dice rolls to reveal it.

Land on your 'wondrous' planet with a Settlement chart.
Create a manual save point.
Use the chart.
If one shows up on your planet, great - go to it.
If not, reload your save and use the chart again.

Lots of people complaining about timers, wanting "instant buildings" in their towns. Me, I kinda wish NMS was even more realistic. At the very least, it would be nice if it had a realism gameplay mode. Examples of "easy mode" gameplay that I'd be happier without:
  • Magic teleporting ships - I'm actually okay with teleporters and portals, since I'm a big Star Gate fan, but my ships, freighters, and cargo should not magically follow me through these portals. Same goes for when I fly my current ship to a new system - I should not be able to recall any of my other ships to that new system, not without first calling my fleet carrier (freighter) which should use hyperspace fuel to get to me, and take time representative of how many jumps away it is. To compensate for this, we should be able to leave different ships in different systems.
  • Instant creative-mode building in survival mode - I'd rather building bases take some time and effort, like using a welder or other tool similar to Space Engineers and Subnautica. Granted, it's all exaggerated regarding how fast things happen, but at least it feels more realistic that the current insta-building we currently have
  • Magic shared cargo - I just recently discovered that if I build ten cargo 1 lockers in ten different bases, even on different planets, that cargo is magically shared between all these lockers, as if it were just a single locker. Immersion-breaking magic, that!
NMS is WAY bigger than Elite in terms of galaxy size and number of galaxies, and yet it feels puny in comparison because of all the magic insta-travel stuffs. It's one of the many reasons Space Engineers still offers so much for me that NMS does not. It's like SE is NMS for grown-ups, LOL. That said, I still have been enjoying NMS, even with all this easy-mode nonsense. I just hope HG doesn't water down the new town gameplay because people want MORE easy mode. Just use the "short timer" mod if you're in a hurry ;)

No way! Awesome. Thank you for that tip.

Great tip. Reloading works wonders in NMS. Its exactly like the DM is rerolling a saving throw. I notice most of the building stages are repeated for some reason. I had the Industrial Plant repeat the "Final" stage 6 times! Here's something I just discovered:

Agri Module / Roof 0% / 140 FE++ / 1.5 hrs
1. I already started this stage, saved game
2. Came back after 1.5 hrs
3. Presented with repeat of Roof 0% stage
4. Start Roof stage again
5. Reload game
6. Check progress

The Agri Module moved to next building stage on 4th reload.

It's a pity you can't bribe the game with pizza...

Well, I'd like something to happen after 24 hours at least. I waited since yesterday for the new settlement I picked to ask me for anything. So far, the debt is piling up and they're happy. shrugs I wish there was something more to do with a settlement than waiting for days for nothing. It's basically just an ornament of ownership that doesn't do anything and have no gameplay. It could be expanded up upon, quite a bit.

On another note, I read that NMS:Frontier has a new format for the save files, so the savefileeditor might not be updated for a while, or at all. :/

I have no doubt that it will be, and that this is just the beginning for settlements. Lots of speculation flying that Frontiers isn't the Big Annual Update, because it's only 3.6.

4.0 may be around the corner.

This is true. :(

However, goatfungus (who does the NMS Save Editor) says he's had a breakthrough and should be able to get something up and running in a few days. Supposedly it's just the new checksum format he has to figure out, because the save format has already been decompiled.

In the meantime, there's also NomNom, which although isn't as easy to use as the above, does work with Frontiers. I may have used it to obtain the missing daggers... ;)

Gek systems use prefab wood builds... so Gek system if you need wood lol... they also worship the sphere... unlike others...
