Elite Dangerous Issue Report - 10/08/2021

The Krait MK. 2 still doesnt have any landing gear textures... It expired in the issue tracker despite multiple people reporting it...

@Bottom Hat with all your stuff collected is this something you can confirm?

@Zac Cocken could you take a look to see if there is something you can do about it.

Yeah I'm not sure Zac is allowed anywhere near my stuphz collection really. The badgers have been trained to be very defensive towards any employees of FD, and especially the mods, as they are the naughty swines who are always trying to get their grubby mits on the hallowed stuphz collection! ;)

Well incase of any confusion, or offense taken, I'm bad at communication... Sorry.

It was the issue tracker I was trying to draw attention to. <----

Not the "stuphz" many apologies.

Greetings Commanders!

I'd like to introduce you to something new. Below is our first Top 20 Issues table, summarising the highest voted issues on the Issue Tracker. As part of being open and honest about the game's development, we'll be regularly posting updated versions of this table and discussing it on our Supercruise News streams.

Note: the status and planned release of each issue is subject to change as various factors affect the ongoing development schedule.

Top 20 Issues:

  1. Problems With Lighting and Illumination: We're happy to say this is now fixed since Update 6, having spent some time to monitor it afterwards. Any new issues to do with lighting should now be reported on the Issue Tracker as normal.

  2. Degraded Terrain Textures Compared To Horizons: A lot of the work for this went into Update 6, with some finishing touches coming in Update 7.

  3. Tiling Planetary Features: Changing the way planets are generated signifies a huge undertaking, so we're still investigating this.

  4. Low FPS Performance In Odyssey: This work will continue up to the end of the year, with improvements added already in Update 6, we know there is more to do.

  5. Limited Gameplay During Apex Shuttle Rides: Nothing to share at this time.

  6. Game Hangs On Exit Sometimes: Currently under investigation, we'll aim for the next update but it's one of the fixes more likely to end up in a later update.

  7. Invincible Thargoid Heart: We know this is a longstanding issue which has a complex cause. It's still being investigated and hasn't been forgotten. If you would like to contribute some information to this issue and others, please read this post.

  8. Anti-Aliasing Not Working Correctly: Some changes will go in Update 7 or 8, with significant improvements, but a full anti-aliasing system is slated for later this year.

  9. Joystick Buttons 32+ Not Working: Not started as other issues are prioritised.

  10. Expose Telemetry Data For Motion Simulators: We're currently discussing this internally, and may decide against it. If it does go ahead, it won't be before Update 8.

  11. NHSS Signals In Odyssey That Should Contain Interceptor Are Empty: Appears to be fixed, should arrive in Update 7 pending some further QA testing.
  12. Increased Performance Problems Since Update 5: Some further improvements are coming in Update 7, while general optimisation will be ongoing. The coming change "won't be a fix for everyone", ( Why? what are you (you as in the Devs) trying to really say here .) but will resolve some of the drops players are seeing. are you saying it is the best that can be done and that's it? Or is it, this is as far as we can go at the moment, and you will be continuing to dig deeper into performance issues?

  1. Supercruise Stuck At '0' Time Remaining With Tunnel Forming: Currently under investigation.

  2. Fleet Carrier Modules And Finances Not Calculated Towards Assets: In progress, slated for Update 7.

  3. NPC Fighter Kills In Conflict Zones Count As Progression: Currently under investigation.

  4. Support Missions Have Been Culled: Fix should be incoming in Update 7.

  5. A Previously Present Codex Entry Is Now Missing: Under investigation. Currently considered lower priority.

  6. System & Galaxy Map Misalignment In Widescreen Aspect Ratios: In progress, unlikely for Update 7.

  7. Stolen Tritium Cannot Be Donated Into A Fleet Carrier's Fuel Depot: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

  8. Missions and Rewards Not Sharing With The Team: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

This is a reflection of the current scenario, and due to the ever-evolving nature of game development, the planned release for these fixes is subject to change. Let us know what you think of this report below!

See you in the black Commanders,

And now they're all closed as duplicates, with no reference to any bug they were a duplicate of in any of them. I wonder if people reported each as a duplicate of another, leading to all of them being closed.

@sallymorganmoore could you take a look at this, please? There's six reports here, with seven "can reproduce" between them, and something has gone wrong so that not only have those 13 reports not led to a Confirmed bug, now all the reports are closed as either Expired or Duplicated so the whole process has to start over...

Heya! Of course :) Sorry for the delay - I can't begin to tell you how 'on fire' my feet are right now but thanks millions for keeping patient with me on the responses. I'll grab this and see what's going on. Ta!

When Top 20 issues gonna be updated?
Probably not much point until after Update 7 comes out, as nothing significant will be fixed before then.

Tuesday's Dev Update has some further progress reports on which bugs they expect it to fix, though.

Very much part of the discussion already, with how to handle duplicates and such.
I've collected many duplicate tickets from forum Commanders to find in TOTAL across all tickets there are 10+ individual contributions, but none of the tickets go to voting stage because none of them as individual tickets total up to the 10 contribution thingy...
LOOK AT ME HAVING A RANT HAHAHA!!
Just a quick THANK YOU Sally for getting this issue (with its many duplicates) prioritised and into update 7 - I'm sure you had some influence and it's really appreciated for us BGS loonies!

I vote on exposing telemetry for motion sim chairs! YES
There are a ton of other ways guys cheat in this game that seemingly never get addressed, I am quite sure some genius can figure out a way around it being used improperly. Cheats will always happen regardless, however when quite a large segment of us fanatics specifically spend thousands to make this game even more stellar, just about every Vr chair out there has vids expressing how awesome VR and motion sims are with Elite, and when we have the telemetry working it is OMG freaking awesome, so, work with us guys!
Gets my vote - I've been flying my home made rigs for around 9K hours exclusively in Elite (it's what I built them for). My 6DOF one is so realistic I always use a seatbelt :D .
Can't figure out why they haven't/won't release an output-only telemetry API for motion after 7 years of asking (which has no cheat implications what so ever - just adds more fun to the ED experience).
Even the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) from Sim Racing Studio has offered to dedicate his staff, if required, to helping FD produce a motion API .
I'll be in my rig again shortly - am exploring in EDO at the mo - then some CQC later (which is really excellent in VR with 6dof motion).
in the black...Blastard.

Bonjour,
J'ai un petit problème, l'entrée codex du trou noir supermassif du Sagittaire A ne se valide toujours pas, après 5-6 visites, et ce depuis le début du jeu et une visite récente.
Meilleures salutations, Cmd Walt71.

Helloo!! Sorry for the late reply :) That thing has been haunting me for so long, I need it on a T-Shirt! I'll be LOST without it! Hehe.

It's now late September, patch 7 has dropped and these issues are unresolved...

This is going to turn into one of those perma-bugs...either it will never get fixed, or it'll get fixed at some point, but really late in the release cycle and it'll get regressed with every future release, meaning it'll just haunt us forever, coming and going with each new release cycle.

I think the problem with how the issue tracker handles duplicate reports is that the oldest issue gets made the 'head' of the issue chain, with all others being made duplicates of it, and if that head is one that was closed then there is no automatic way for it to get re-opened, no matter how many duplicates of it there are. FDev's issue tracker isn't just overly reliant on automation, it's overly reliant on bad automation, it seems.

The issue tracker needs to merge posts if they are confirmed as duplicate. Or just auto confirm them if their summing together means there is more than 10 cmdrs with the same problem.

This should have been done years ago. It's frustrating and wasteful of the players time who are giving up their own free time to stop play and actually do work for free for the company to improve the game. Please reward them by doing this, making the issue tracker better and not losing the goodwill and patience of your loyal fanbase.

The issuetracker is useless .. If I look at my own tickets .. most simply expired, others just duplicated .. never had one fixed. I'm done reporting stuff, they should hire proper testers, people that do exactly that, and play the game for real themselves (hours on end) before they release. In the end, I'm not paid to debug their game, worse: I paid for a game that needs me to report issues, that says a lot of how things are done these days.

This^^

Absolutely couldn't agree more brother! This is my free time, my money, my relaxation time and we are treated like unpaid employees and berated for being upset at their sub-standard mess.

100% agreed

Vague issue reports are a lot more likely to go unconfirmed until expiration - if you brought a vehicle to a mechanic and all you told them was, "It's not working correctly," it would take them forever to fix what is actually bothering you (if they find it at all), and they'll end up addressing a lot of things that either aren't your focus or aren't broken at all, as they try to stab blindly in the dark.

Very few of my issue reports have expired - I take the time to understand what is going on, to the best of my ability, so that I can give a thorough description and accurate reproduction steps to the people who will be trying to find and fix the issue. If I don't have time for that, I stay out of the issue tracker - someone with the patience to be more thorough will get to it, or eventually I'll have gathered enough info without having to put a concerted effort into chasing it down. Rushing to the issue tracker the moment something is slightly off actually adds more static for them to try to tune out in order to focus on the issues for which they have enough data to be able to address.
