General Assign NPC crew members to the spare cockpit seat so we can actually see our NPC crew members in our cockpits!!

Sucks, but no surprise.

Well, its only been suggested in the suggestion forums dozens of times, so i guess we go back to suggesting it for another few years. Maybe one day FD will decide to do it... or not.
What's truly disdainful of them is that, in 6 years, they never deigned to tell us why they won't add such an easy feature to the game... Now, with Apex, they show us how close they are, but they keep ignoring us.

It's like they swore an oath never to fill those empty seats with NPC ; but I personally also swear I'll never give them one more cent if not for that feature or walkable ship interiors.

More likely they just don't want to commit to anything until its definitely on the cards.

The problem as far as I can see, dates back to when NPC crew and SLFs were introduced. They arrived in an earlier update than Holo-me. I'm guessing that that code isn't easily compatible with Holo-Me. So the feature we want was broken from the very start by poor planning. I had hoped that with the alleged code refactoring that was supposed to be part of Odyssey that they could have done something then. Perhaps they fear that we will be upset if our NPCs don't look identical to what we currently have, not that that has stopped them mucking up NPCs with previous updates. The advantage of converting them to the same system as our Holo-Me avatars and on foot NPC would be that we could alter there appearance to what we would like and we would have more incentive to spend Arx on their outfits.

IIRC, if you zoom into a SLF cockpit you are flying, you see yourself. There is definitely a model there.

Regardless, code will need changing regardless and I wouldn't view this as a blocker.

Why won't they tell us themselves ? Aren't we worth an ANSWER, with their pockets full of our money ? Some of us have played Elite since the 80s ; don't we deserve some REGARD ? To me that ticket closing and that redirecting to (muted) suggestions sound like : "Back to your kennel and quit barking."

I know the devs are aware of these threads since they sometimes post a reply in others, but they seem to develop a FRONTIER between themselves and us.

Well.. that's ummm.. free market for you.
Customer regard? Nah... make a minimal viable product from which you can milk as much as you can, and when sales go down... make another one.
It's certainly not devs fault, they're not making decisions, it's Braben and shareholders.
And it's because of these policies the've made a mess of the game. Dozens of tiny addons from which further development wouldn't be viable.
So they can either start developing ship crew from scratch, which is money down the drain from Brabens perspective or keep persuading us that what we have now is perfectly fine, same as they did with ship interiors. "It would be dull after some time".
They'll probably make ships and FC interiors, crew in cocpits, now they've seen there's demand for that content.
But they'll make you pay for it!

They do Q&As sometimes. You can try and get them to answer questions like that on streams or when they do forum Q&As.

Otherwise, generally speaking, no. FD don't talk about what features they may or may not consider outside those things.

So, if you really want an answer, watch their livestreams and wait and see if they ask for questions. When they do, post your question (once, don't spam, be polite) and hope they answer.

Meet my copilot Jenny,

Someday she'll do more than just sit in the chair and look pretty. Someday she'll keep me informed of what's going on around us via the crew chat :D

This must be one of the few suggestions where I have seen very little argument against it.
And that by having a 2nd account, you can achieve this, is so sad. as just placing one of our NPC pilots there instead would be a tremendous update. even if they did not do anything, but just sitting there. teasing us what we could get in the future... like announcements etc.

I wonder if the reason this hasn't been implemented is because of the way avatars for NPCs are randomized? The 3D model would have to resemble the avatar, and maybe because of the randomization, the way the code is currently written, we would get a completely different model than what's in our Crew member's photo.

We've all been catfished!!

Of course, the best way around this would be to give us the option to change our Crew's appearance like in our "Holo Me".
