Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Irrelevant, the point is i didn't buy it because i needed it, its not a life essential, i bought it because i wanted it and because i can, its only worth what people are willing to pay for it, i'm not paying $900 for an RX 6800 because i don't think its worth that.

Its like those people who say "I bet that costs a lot to run" to people with large high powered cars, yes it does if you're on benefits.

Is your problem that expensive things exist or that people buy them? Star Citizen is no different, you don't have to spend a lot, but you can if you want nice things.

I'm not aruging whether its a life essential or not or whether you have disposable income. I'm offering an opinion (my opinion) that its insane for someone to spend more than a AAA game on a spaceship for game, and that being one of the cheaper ones.

You clearly disagree, your opinion. I'm still sat here circling my head making (damn forum censor - that bird that lays its eggs in other birds nests) noises every time i see the prices of ships in SC.

I think we all do that, it's nuts. I prefer the dismissive laugh at the prices myself. Like most...Intrepid included...I've spent what I think supporting the project is worth to me and I'm done spending, it's not about buying the ships or what their intrinsic individual worth is or isn't...I was done spending 2 years ago barring a few quid here and there on cosmetic items. Ci¬G has had my support, now it's their turn to put up or shut up :)

Another freefly...didn't we just have one? :censored:

Stress testing the servers you see. Bring in more players. This is good for Star Citizen. ITS ALPHA!

Seriously though, i guess this is an attempt to rope some more people in before the big con.

I wonder how many new people they rope in each time. They've done quite a few over the years... i wonder how effective it is now compared with say a year or two ago. Have they not enticed everyone who might be interested yet? Its not like the alpha is significantly different from how it was a year or so ago. Some pluses, some minuses, blowing blossoms on not-cloud-city.

Worthless speculation, but would be interesting to know.

Since the announcement of the upcoming wipe with 3.15, most regulars...myself included... can't be bothered logging in and playing SC...there's basically little point in doing so besides mucking about for an hour or two in between other games. Ci¬G have to keep garnering new interest in the meantime, hence the latest freefly. It'll keep the data metrics on player numbers up. We've still got until the end of October to go before 3.15 is dropped...possibly having the PTU announced during Citcon. Until then, concurrent player counts will continue to fall as most are just marking time waiting to start again :)

Yeah, i suppose there is a difference between a) playing not knowing a wipe is coming, b) playing after a wipe, and c) playing knowing a wipe is coming.

Imagine the newbies coming in, learning the game, grinding away, getting all excited, only to learn all their efforts are about to be wiped. Ooof.

The MSR is still in it..... https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ship-showdown2021/live-showdown

I want the MSR to win, i think it has a good chance against the C2 and the 600i, the wild card is that ARGO Cargo which was entered as a joke, its still there because people who don't own any of the ships in the competition are voting for it.

Who thought it would be a good idea to meme the ARGO Cargo in this? o_O

Edit: @EUS free fly events over stress the servers, so it all goes to poo.

Some have suggested cynically that the wipe with 3.15, besides being essential with the new physicalised inventory etc, is being deliberately tied closely with yet another pre November ship sale event. I'd agree with that sentiment.

It'll be a lot easier on the newbies than it will be for the long term regulars...they won't have time to earn anything worth the tears over losing. :D

They could do a wipe of inventories without wiping ships. Its not rocket science. Its just involves crafting a DB procedure to do it.

Nope, there's way too many idiots who have paid for those in game ships using exploits or aUEC bought from Ebay. A clean wipe of the persistence db is essential to ridding the servers of those running on ill gotten gains. I'd go as far as suggesting that 90% of us who play the game welcome the wipe...it's way past overdue.

I was speaking from a technical point of view.

Now, the question is, are there still exploits? Will there be new exploits? Will people have their fleets back quickly?
