Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Now... RGB. It looks flash but I need to find out how to turn it off. Hmm. There are a couple of apps on the PC to control the lighting but it reverts back once they're closed. Ah well, I'll sort it at some point.
Software can't mess with the LEDs when you pull the plugs (or, in extreme cases, cut the cable). Might not work for lights integrated into other stuff, like fans or GPUs.
 
All my lights are controlled by iCue software apparently. I can do "stuff" with it but as soon as I shut the program down, the rainbows reappear :D

Also, Scan supply a recovery USB stick in case things go south. It's supposed to be stuck on the inside of the case somewhere but I've had enough crawling around for today!

Just did a document recovery mission to see how my PC handles it. My FPS dropped to 55 (vsync off). Hmm. Anyway, pilfered some hardware - I now have enough electrical wiring and circuit switches to rewire a Coriolis :rolleyes: I'm now flying around random stations, hoping to find G3 suits and guns with upgrades applied. Got a G3 Maverick yesterday with faster shield regen and reduced tool battery consumption \o/

Depends which cable you cut, downside is cutting the one that definitely kills the RGB also stops everything else working.

Would blacking out the windows help, after all LEDs produce little heat and don’t consume much power.
 
Trying some stealing (threat 3 degraded emission). No threat at all so far, tried 5 already.

Got my M2 SSD caddy. They don't make things easy. The drive just will not slot into the housing. It looks like it should go in easily but... it don't. Le sigh.

It doesn't work because it's the wrong caddy. My SSD uses the M/B+M key format, not the B/B+M format. Subtle differnece but an all important one. Honestly, I think tech companies should make their nomenclature easier to understand 🤬😤

Note to anyone interested: B key connectors have six pins on the small the tab, M key's have five. I had to use a magnifying glass to spot the difference.

One lives, learns and spends more money.

When I first booted up my rig I was horrified by the psychedelic rainbow photons as well. Even the stock AMD Wraith prism cooler was going on a trip. The graphics card wanted to light up the its wording which was solved by using the specific GPU software to shut off. The mother board had its own button to toggle the lights off and for the remainder, I just disconnected the 3 pin RGB header cables.

As a last resort, just yank all the RGB headers.

There will be some remnant LED like a small standby power LED on the GPU card or whatever, blu-tack and bits of paper or tape will have to do. (Rig is in the bedroom and I dont want the LEDs around when I sleep).

You'd think a simple software "off' toggle would be available, wouldn't you?

It is possible to change to a single non-pulsating colour but that needs the software running and reverts back once closed.

At least it all goes dark when I shut down.

My Asus stuff comes with an app "Aura" which controls this stuff. I set it to not have any illumination - then uninstalled the app. :)

(It is now part of ASUS' "Armoury Crate" - which I won't install on my PCs but left on my laptop.)

I fussed with my RGB softwares, but they are nearly useless to me.

One of them just sits there "detecting RBG Peripherals" and then exits after a while saying it could not find anything. Not sure why they included that one.

The other has a bunch of presets for flashing, pulsing, wave effects, etc., and a way to set the RGB values directly. It seems to affect only the lettering on my graphics card. I did manage to set that to black, which turns off the lettering pretty much, but does nothing for the other pulsing light in there. No idea what that is.

Fortunately, I keep my computer under my desk, and the pulsing light mostly shines under there where it's not right in my face.

Stupid feature. I would've paid a few extra bucks NOT to have it. :)

I have also got something called "iCue" which seems to be able to change stuff but I can't figure out how to turn it all off and keep it off. Next stop: BIOS.
 
I managed to carve out a bit of time for EDO today, enough to do 3 missions anyway. Two were for clearing out some scavengers. They turned out to be low-level ones, so easy pickin's. The other was a power-up mission. No enemies. Lots of looting. I had fun, as always.

I'm still working on Audio Masking for my Executioner, and I think I'll go ahead and upgrade my Artemis to Grade 4 or so. Maybe Grade 5. Still considering :)

Here I am looking menacing. Those plants are terrified, trust me.

Also, I just figured this out. If an NPC has a bounty, you see the red 'scales' icon. Like in the bottom of this pic.

After you scan them and have the bounty registered, there is an orange box around the 'scales' icon, like at the top of this pic:

I was always re-scanning dead guys, because I couldn't remember which I had scanned. Now I don't have to, lol.
