Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

If I WAS going to do that, I'd first start the launcher and let it start downloading (so it creates all the folders). Exit the launcher, copy the Products folder over, restart launcher and let it continue.

That should work, in theory :)

Hmmm.... or just let the Launcher continue its stuff, then overwrite whatever is there with your backups.

Not sure what's going on here.

Yesterday, I entered EDH and had to select "custom" to pick up my assigned binds. Today, back in EDO, I had to redo my on-foot binds and copying back an old (working) file didn't work - even when I chose "custom" again.

This stuff has happened to me before when switching betweed EDO and H so I must be doing something stupid. It doesn't take long but it's annoying.

Does ED:H wipe your on-foot binds because it makes no sense to it? There's lots of talk about CMDR's binds being lost round these parts.

Funny thing just happened. I'm driving around a geo site, collecting mats, when all of a sudden I hear 'Mission Objective Detected'. I don't have a mission at the moment, so I don't know what that means. Is Verity trying to make conversation?

Not used Horizons much lately but don't recall problems when I last did. However I had before Odyssey renamed the bindings file and changed the name in the second line so the dodgy custom is not used. I have two named files with different version numbers.

The above could all be rubbish of course as I have unfortunately been sober a couple of times recently which always messes up my knowledge of past watchamacaulums.

I think custom.4.0.binds for EDO and custom.3.0.binds is EDH.

I'll look into more once I'm back up after tomorrow's new arrival. It is really wierd though. I'm sure I'm missing something.

Oh really? Interesting! You may be right!

On the "mission objective detected" thing, I think that's a bug. I've had it happen loads of times.

I missed the ability to package modules to fit into ship cargo in eve online so f___ing much... I can even package a few smaller ships to pack into huge freighter to haul things around....

Still flying around for various eng. & experimental effects.. 😤 . Basic things like fsd, thruster, pd, pp are done. only shield & gunz left.

When you load Oddy having played Horizons - your on-foot controls need to be re-selected. I have a binds file called "oddy feet" which has my on-foot settings - so I just have to select that from the drop-down choices in the On Foot section.

Going from Oddy to Horizons, I have to select my binds file from the drop-down list as the game otherwise selects "default context" (or summat).

I don't know why it is so difficult to have separate startpreset.start files for Oddy and the non-footfall version(s).

Whatever, just avoid using "custom" as that is where madness lies.

Well, the major grind is over. Got to see Oden and apply several mods to suits and weapons.
Now have two mavy G5 custom suits. One for scavenging. the other with extra ammo for combat zones.
I had audio masked exec and tormy guns. Both now G5 with big mags. Started another exec to test out the scope mod.
Looking down the sights of a double scoped exec is scary. Need to put audio on it when I get to see Yarden.

The PC is in place. ED downloading. Taking a while...

Got a bit of an annoying glitch at the moment and I can't see what's causing it yet. The bottom of the screen near the taskbar intermittently flashes with what looks like whatever image I have set on my desktop. Bit of a headscratcher so I may have to call the tech boys at Scan

Had a really quick go in ED. No time left today :(

Looks amazing and as smooth as butter \o/

However. I copied back my binds but it only applied about 25% of them. I mean... Double you tee eff. Have to redo them all. Again.

I learned a thing though. The appdata path whatsit to the binds directory isn't visible in file explorer until you allow show hidden files.

Oh, and the sound from my Strix card is a cut above the Soundblaster Zx I had.

More fiddling tomorrow and I need to swap DP ports to see if it cures the flash glitch.

I need a beer.

Grats on the new rig :)

I'm working on a few mods, as usual. I did an assassination mission in which the fellow fled to some planet, and was 'hiding' next to a sidewinder, with a dead pilot on the ground. He had pretty good shields on his suit, but it didn't matter.

Afterwards, I tried out the Jump Assist in my Artemis suit. It works pretty well.

I got shafted by a Larceny mission. It was one of those where you go to an 'irregular markers' site and grab an item from one of the storage containers.
As soon as I got the item, a bunch of scavs dropped in. I could have just run off with the item but I stayed to fight them.
They were low level newbie scavengers. Total in bounties for all 5 of them was less than 4k.
And then, when I went to turn in the mission and get my promised Patrol Routes, the mission board glitched and just gave me the financial reward, without giving me a chance to choose. I've had that happen a couple of times before, always on that same type of mission. But I've also had that type of mission work correctly.
Anyway, today it stole my reward from me.

I was also getting random crashes to the desktop while in the galaxy or system maps. Never had that problem before.

Ah well. I finished up with an "Eliminate Scavengers" type mission. They were able to see me a long way off, in the dark. It was surprising to me. I used it to my advantage to lure them around some corners and into range of my shotgun, one at a time (mostly). I prevailed, but they were a bit more challenging than most scavs.

This is me in the very green Artemis suit, on top of my Viper MKIV, on a planet made entirely of sand and rocks. Maybe some pasta. Now I'm hungry.
