🍁 Planet Zoo: North America Animal Pack, coming 4 October 🍁

I just think that having 2 species from the genus Vulpes back-to-back is a bit unnecessary. I feel this way about all cases of multi-genus representation honestly.
But they are such radically different species from radically different parts of the world with very different needs. Different niches in real life and different niches in the game.

If you’re building an Australian zoo you can include the fennec fox (not because they are an Australian species of course but Australian zoos have them) but not the Arctic. If you’re building a Nordic forest zoo you’re unlikely to include the fennec fox (Helsinki in does but that’s another story) but very likely to have Arctic foxes.

And if you are building a traditional city zoo you might have both, either side by side in a small mammal/carnivore/canid house or one in a nocturnal house/African zone and another in a boreal zone for example.

For those of us who build realistically according to location rather than a random zoo with a random selection of animals selected based on the fact that they look unique or add variety, animal selections like this are vital.

I’m really happy for the people who finally would get animals they really wanted like sea lion or cougar. It’s an amazing feeling to see your beloved species in the line up so I’m trilled for you guys 😁

Personally my heart beats faster for prairie dogs - can’t wait to build habitat for them bisons and pronghorns and beavers - which maybe are not very popular in zoos but are truly amazing creatures and I am sure people would love them. Also really like those cute log houses from the trailer. Hope they would be available in the timed scenario map.

Continuation of releasing animal packs made me also very really happy too, because now we know for sure it was not just one time trend with SEA.

From the beginning of the game I’ve had 5 animals I really wanted and till this day I only got 2 of them (Babirusa and Malayan tapir) so hopefully next year Frontier would consider adding Red River hogs, Maned wolfs and Stripped hyenas. Also #fixmalayantapir and give him justice please.

To summarize things up: great pack but not necessarily for me. I will buy it anyway and wait for the next one to come.

In my opinion at least two of them have a really good chance to make it into the game. The striped hyena would be cool but it is a bit more unlikely.
I still have four animals I would really enjoy to have them in the game. Alpine Ibex because I want to have a goat, Leopard (Any), because for me they are the most beautiful cat. The dromedary because I love camels. And the Dik Dik, because they are so cute.

Agreed, I don't like the timed scenario's very much. Also I think they are super hard. I haven't finished one within the time limit yet on easy mode. I love the other non timed scenario's.
I'm not a lover of timed scenarios either, so I just play them at my own comfortable speed, although the ticking clock is a distraction, wish there was an option to turn it off.

Especially since I live in North America, I LOVE all the animals in this pack! Well, maybe not the Bullfrog so much, since it preys on the baby fish in our garden pond. Hubby and I frequently need to relocate those Bullfrogs, lol.

Oh and for anyone keeping score, 5 of the animal choices were yoinked right from the meta-wishlists top 10. Nice job on that CMs!
Right? I guess it was kind of expected that it would be entirely possible that happened, but no one knew for sure. And just because it was possible didn't mean it would. But it did! I think they did a stellar job with the animal picks on this pack.

I love love love this pack! I know @KönigDerKaffeebohnen and I are supposed to be rioting cause I didn’t get my wolverine and he didn’t get his raccoon, but just speaking for myself, I couldn’t be happier with the surprise of the prairie dog and arctic fox I could get my wolverine some other time in a Europe pack!
I guess I should rioting too? But I'm going to do what you're thinking too - put that wolverine in the 4th animal spot for a European pack, as it would still be appropriate there. I'm not giving up hope yet!

I like the Arctic Fox, it's a cool animal to have and it's basically what everyone wanted for the Arctic Pack but... What about the fur color? We all know that Arctic Foxes have a white fluffy coat n winter and a dark short coat in summer... Will they change their coat between seasons in the game?
There are no real seasons in the game, as it changes weather randomly, so most likely we will be stuck with winter coat fox. The best we can hope for is some colour variation in the coats so not all of them are completly white.

The big problem doesn't happen in two of the vulpes genus, the fox is welcome!

The problem is the amount of canids at the expense of other families with little representation in the game, or even entire classes such as birds.

We got two rodents in the same package, which is commendable! They are unheard of!

But let's face it, there are more dogs in the game than birds - 7 to 6:

timber wolf, arctic fox, arctic wolf, dingo, dhole, African painted dog and fennec fox.

King and African penguins, cassowary, ostrich, flamingo and peacock.

That's taking into account that we have two penguins and two Ratites (I love all the birds in the game). My complaint is that we don't have amazing land or water birds like pelicans, herons, chickens, pheasants, wild turkeys, ducks, geese and other plethora of birds that don't necessarily need to come in an exclusive bird package.

Unfortunately we are not sure, but we all dream of a bird pack that will add a flight mechanic to the game and bring us unique birds such as macaws, hornbills, toucans, birds of prey, exotic birds, among others.

THE CONCLUSION I SHOOT IS: EVERY TIME A NEW DOG COMES INTO THE GAME IT IS LESS AN INNOVATIVE ANIMAL THAN WE HAVE.

PS .: All the canids in the game the most underused is the arctic wolf, one because we have the wood wolf, and now with the arrival of the arctic fox (which sounds much more iconic) the arctic wolf will be even more expendable .

PS 2: I include and reiterate my complaint with the Himalayan grizzly bear, we have 5 Asian bears in the game, a spectacled bear or an American black bear would have been better at the start of the game than a subspecies of a bear already present in the game.

THE CONCLUSION I SHOOT IS: EVERY TIME A NEW DOG COMES INTO THE GAME IT IS LESS AN INNOVATIVE ANIMAL THAN WE HAVE.
But you could also say that about cats, which currently have even 1 more than dogs, yet you are not mad that they added cougar? How is it more or less inovative then the arctic fox?

It better to just accept the packs can never please everyone, there will always be someone who would rather the fox was a wolverine but if they added a wolverine instead, there would be someone wanting an arctic fox.

Amazing... so you guys really think the exclusion of birds might not be hinting to... well... a bird pack with improved mechanics?
I mean, I get that some people miss some animals in this pack, but really, complaining about the lack of birds when litterally everything screams "they'll come down the line and they will fly" startles me.

We might get an aviary pack. Don’t fret
