Update 8?

I see no reason to look again at the title of a video I understood fully the first time I read it.

The point, however, is that FDev have seen fit to publicise such a trivial set of features rather than focusing on issues that are likely to have a significant effect on the experience of existing players and the likelihood of attracting new players.

It's an odd hill you've chosen to die on just because you can't admit you were ill-informed when you posted this thread.

Since OP devolved to the final frontier of "u drool!" I will bow and leave by pointing out that if I were genuinely concerned FD was ignoring something I'd be happy to be shown otherwise and change my opinion when people showed me I was mistaken. The fact OP does not and is simply slinging random insults around makes me suspect he was never sincere from the start.

Ciao all, see ya in the next disingenuous rant topic. :)

Would you rather them put out a video of a blown up FPS counter climbing higher and higher?

No, you thought that update8 didn't focus "on issues that are likely to have a significant effect on the experience of existing players and the likelihood of attracting new players".

I'd like to remain optimistic that update 8 WILL also include new optimisations, bug-fixes and improvements to the lighting...

Now you know that wasn't true. But you're doubling down on the fact they stuck the sexy bits in a video?

You were wrong, it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Sorry man, they didn't 'sweep it under the rug' just because you didnt read the news update or watch the new stream. Reality exist even if you dont look at it. Its called 'object permanence'.

The normal thing to do now would be to say:"Oh right, they didn't try to hide it, they are openly and actively communicating about it." Or you can double-down. Also fun.
Would Kant agree? Something-something about observability...

Lol, imagine being upset and even prophesizing doom because they add a 'wave hand animation' on top of a nice new feature with its own animation. Absolutely splendid, its like being Elite-ranked in self-induced misery. :D
Yeah the Godwin Nazis came out of their hidey-holes very, very quickly!

It's quite telling how some people (yes, you and some others here) cling to a tiny, subjective, and therefore attackable detail while studiously ignoring the elephant in the room. Perhaps I may remind you that the actual substantial announcements about performance improvements, lighting, and fixing broken missions (was the latter even mentioned in the live stream?) have been announced for quite some time. Meanwhile, we're on the verge of Update 8 and you can't think of anything better than defend this tiny bit of fluff tooth and nail. Are you all right? Is this the SC thread or have we all slipped into Orwell's 1984?

How about following up on Bruce's words from a few weeks ago, where he suggested they be judged by their actions, not their words?
The fluff that is being created (that's was asked for) will have zero effect on the fixing of missions and performance.

So what is the issue exactly?

Maybe these people should just sit there and do nothing while missions and performance get fixed.

This thread is utterly ludicrous.

You mean like how you're ignoring all of my other replies where I tried to have an open dialogue about the dev process, how YOU and OP chose to ignore the statements made in the Development Update post about performance fixes and optimizations, and how you're still clinging to a false, misinformed assumption that adding emotes and a multicrew seat is somehow stopping the rest of the development team from continuing to fix Odyssey so you can get it on console one day? Seems you're ignoring quite the elephant there too.

My post history speaks for itself in this thread, I made sure to respond to every single point made and only decided to harp on about the frankly ridiculous salute comparison when it was clear that nobody was interested in an actual discussion about development process.

OP ignored information from FDev to make a clickbait title to round up the angry villagers, you joined the small mob, and instead of an open dialogue about concerns and worries about the games progress you both just channeled your FOMO-based anger to the point that OP is now fruitlessly comparing an emote in a space game to the salute of one of the most evil men of the last century and you're blatantly ignoring my talking points just to criticize me for criticizing that comparison.

All because you're sad you don't have Odyssey yet.

Actions take time and the fact that updates are coming at the rate that they are confirms they're at least making an effort and that's at least enough to buy some patience from me. I'll make my final decision about my satisfaction with their progress around Christmas and go from there.

It’s quite clear that those who are “getting stuff” seem fine with the announcements and those who are “not getting stuff nor any information on progress towards when the process by which we might start to get stuff will begin” are a little peeved.

I guess that’s human nature.

I wonder how your justification attempts looked like shortly after Odyssey dropped. What was your made up timeline back then, August '21?
edit:
Oops sorry, just realised you are new here...
(you are talking to someone with 12000 hours under his belt. also, I do have Odyssey and also the right machine for playing it)
New to the forums (as a member, but I've lurked for a long time), yes, but far from new to Elite Dangerous. My total hours across console and PC are around 1500 and I started shortly after Horizons original release, though I'm not sure how relevant that is other than you trying to find some way to invalidate what I'm saying. That being said, if you are as disillusioned with this game and FDev as you say but still have twelve THOUSAND hours in it, it can't be nearly as bad as you're insinuating can it? ;)

I was very unhappy with Odysseys release state, and actually took a full 2 months break from the game as a whole because of it, but my "made up timeline" was always the end of the year. Your point?

Either way, I guess I appreciate your consistency in refusing to actually address anything of substance and just picking weird things to go on about as you demonstrated clearly by looking at my post history and choosing to only address the age of my account and not what I've actually been saying here. I'd say this interactions about done.

If Frontier had any further crumbs to throw the way of the console players regarding when conversion of Odyssey would begin in earnest they have stated, quite openly, that the information would be freely given.

As further information has not been forthcoming, it is probably a reasonable assumption that there is nothing new to add.

I'd like to know when they (Frontier) think Odyssey will be optimised to a point where the advertised system specs on PC would be able to play with both good framerates and stability, then, at least, I could suggest to 3 RL friends that 'now' (whenever that may be) they would be able to play...

Comparing Horizons on my PS4 to my PC, I don't think I'll be in the queue to add the Odyssey DLC to it, when it is eventually released.

Just going to chime in here with my tuppenceworth...

I'm glad that the Odyssey frame-rate is improving. All the arguments of 20:20 hindsight saying that FDev could/should have done this, that and the other before release aside - they are actively working to improve the situation. Not every little issue is going to be fixed immediately but I feel it's disingenuous if someone says 'oh FDev are just ignoring this' - they clearly aren't.

If FDev stopped all development of new features and concentrated solely on fixing what's broken before a single new feature was released, some folk would be very happy. And an equally vociferous group would be hostile and say 'oh FDev are just ignoring us' or 'the game's dead, no new features'. Very much a case of FDev being damned (by some) either way.

Personally I don't like the emotes as currently demonstrated in the trailer - they seem stilted, robotic and not natural at all. But I'm sure this will be improved - the trailer did clearly say "DEVELOPMENT FOOTAGE," which I take to mean 'draft'.

Regardless, the trailer is positive and keep up the hard work FDev.

People who are getting stuff already own the expansion. Those not getting stuff don't own the expansion.

Still, it's nice to see the console undead have another thread in which to have a good old whine about it.

Btw: I happen to own Elite on console and have a fairly active account so I'm also missing out on Ody for it but I built my bridge and I'm over it.
